I've got to be around 1k over the past 4 years or so. To me that isn't too bad considering that money has been spread out over that time and i've gotten countless hours of entertainment. Lots of salt here from people unfortunately, and those people really shouldn't be giving newer players buying advice.
Arena is slow for your collection, and if youre looking for competitive play, you've got to go with bundles like already stated above. Spending money is always worth it imo as you waste zero time getting the essentials you need. You don't need to spend much to get those essentials for any one deck which is whats great with HS.
One thing to note is that its a mistake dusting 1/2 your collection for 1-2 decks. Meta does change, despite popular belief and it will eventually burn you so never do that no matter how tempting.

I havent played since april it looks like. I just reinstalled now and played a few games and i just can't get back into it as nothings changed. I am still seeing mostly what Witchwood brought on with a few new additions. I logged in and got my free packs and gold card and i think thatll be it for me until next expansion. MTG:A has been ok for filling the gap for now.
Not every expansion is going to push the game through for people, and i've been here since beta. I can understand this completely.

Just finished playing a couple days worth of MTG:A and i am pretty impressed overall by its design. I dunno if i am going to sound old as f*** but i remember back in 2004-6 they had a similar MTG program that was little more than a proxy sim in the way it played MTG, and it failed miserably. You could sell cards for "gold" in an auction-type setting as well as pay for cards with cash straight up.
I spent the 5.99 on the started pack (2500 gems/5packs) and i think i opened 15 packs total and wasnt able to build anything (not surprised) that the competitive ladder would accept. Despite this though you get a ton of cards right out of the gate through pre-built decks which makes it a little easier. Something to remember though is that there are like 2k+ cards in standard format in MTG:A so this is a lot harder to get to a competitive level as a newer player than HS.
You unlock more bulk through pre-con decks as you play. Wild card system allows crafting of what you want, but its not a generous as HS at all. With HS, you can really squeeze your collection down to afford cards you want, and this isnt possible with MTGA as there is no dusting/converting. You feel this immediately and it almost kills it for me as there are colours i don't play at all, and likely never will.
TL:DR - Must spend money (imo). No dusting. Way more cards to get. A good chunk of mandatory rares/mythics are gated behind wildcards. Right out of the gate there are 5 or so sets to buy packs out of. Way too overwhelming. HS wins out slightly for ease of access to competitive ladder.

At least there some synergy with Bloodbloom coming up that make some semblance of sense? I am reserving full judgement until i see the Warlock weapon which hopefully will be life-stealing, because i know it won't be card draw or demon related.

Haha, jk, i gotta say i agree. Everyone called her trash but then forgot that ice block exists. So you can't kill her the turn shes vulnerable. This is the sole reason i tech eater of secrets into my decks. Sick of the ice block BS. I had a mage one game play 5 ice blocks, must have been lucky (or unlucky) primodial glyphing and Cabalist Toming, just absolutely annoying as hell.

I think the Shaman, Druid, and Priest one aren't amazing. Paladin is highly overrated and Rogue underrated. I've played Paladin the most so far and that hero hasn't saved me once. However, Warlocks hero has won me the game every time i've dropped it.
Rogue DK is also pretty nuts if its dropped when your opponent is out of steam. Every rogue DK dropped has killed me, but perhaps its been luck. They've been able to wipe my board and then from there out value me. I guess it all comes down to board wipe.
With that said, i don't think they need changes. Some are really costed well, like Shaman. You can play this on curve and the Druid one is appropriate because you can ramp/innervate into it on turn 4-5 and from that position its gross.

I've played around 30 games with him so far and i've cut him. At 6 mana he isn't doing me any favors and i am in high need of cards that populate the board. Im usually really far behind in Control Paladin and stuff like equality/pyro and Doomsayer are highly needed (it seems so far). Opponent knows better and keeps the board clean and tries to out value me this usually means i don't need much healing until much later and it is seldom this guys effect is pulled off.
In my opinion, putting in buffs is major. x2 steed, x2 blessing of kings, and even a possible Dinosize is the way to go with control because i am having serious trouble gaining a win condition.

Yeah because aggro has no way to deal 7 damage to a minion in one turn. I've played the game at all levels and i don't see this in every control deck. Its not that prevalent. Its not an auto include, much unlike Azure Drake and Power Overwhelming.

10/10 worth of stats for 5 mana but is dead weight. Can look at it as some AOE insurance or a silence/removal magnet. If you buff it, youll definately see it take a poly/hex/devolve so it could be nice. All in all, this on an empty board doesn't make the opponent scream YAY tempo or anything. There are much worse plays.

Appears the OP saw the complaining and conformed with it. They are all playable, but require some decent creativity. Standard viable? No idea. The one thing i've learned playing this game for 3 or so years now is that some insane decks can come out of nowhere from cards you'd have never thought would be any good at all.
