You know what would be a really cool way to help out the HS player base when Blizzard prints Spirit Claws while nerfing everything else but Priest and Paladin? BANS. I would love to be able to set a banned class, even it meant I had to pick it from an extra menu every time I clicked 'Play Standard'.
Obviously, it would only be fair to do this for the casual mode, because choosing fun (fun: adjective. Describes playing decks for the following classes: Warrior, Warlock, Priest, Paladin, Rogue, Mage, Hunter, and Druid) decks is only an appropriate choice there. Ranked means winning with Shaman or giving Shaman free wins.
And where is the "conquest" button I click? He is obviously talking about implementing this in the actual game and not as a user created imaginary ban.
My idea was absolutely inspired by tournament bans. Also by queuing into repeated Shamans in Standard/Casual with my 'fun' deck.
Spoiler, tho: while I would use such a feature if it existed today, my post is a joke and a criticism of Blizzards choices over the Karazhan/post-Karazhan nerfs/through today time period. I feel like they did such an epically bad job of giving tools to various classes in Karazhan, then they made it WORSE with the nerfs, then every day that passes they continue to preserve the terrible meta we have by not doing something more, NOW, about Shaman.
In the unlikely hypothetical universe where they rapidly implement such a proposal as mine, then I could play casual without cursing myself over my stubborn unwillingness to insta-concede when I see Thrall across the table, though that would provide me more time to play matches I might enjoy. But really, just fix Shaman.
Yes, I misunderstood. It might be fair for the ladder, too.
But I was really thinking about casual, because I do stubbornly try to make off-meta decks quite often, and I am comfortable with staying in Casual mode with them. Running into a T0 deck there feels bad, man.
Are you really that sad? Tell me something.. What if you had all the cards in the game and even the golden ones, all the golden heroes and you can create every deck with these shiny cards.. Then what? It's just a game.
I don't know if you noticed, but at the recent HS World Championship, there were bans. These bans were frequently used against Shaman. The result is that many, definitely not all, but many interesting control decks were played successfully. Hamster fucking advanced with a Priest and a Paladin.
I would like to have a game mode available to me to use at home, in front of my computer, or even on my phone, that let me influence in a small way the opponents I am likely to face. Even more than that, however, I would like Blizzard to recognize their repeated mistakes and take additional action so that Midrange Shaman is not in its own tier.
1) Blizzard thinks a month from now is soon enough to fix the meta, though I have little faith in their ability to predict well how the cards they release will do so (see Spirit Claws). I disagree, and wish they'd act faster, after all the time between Karazhan and the nerfs was short.
2) Bans might really be a good idea, in game. I feel like the case for it in Casual is really solid. I leave it to others to figure out how it might work in other modes.
Casual is a place where you can play without any pressure about game outcome, so why do you even care? You can simply concede matches against decks you don't like.
I think this is the answer, honestly. I think the ban idea would be fun, personally, where as see Shaman, concede is ... less so, but at least I don't have to wait for Blizzard.
My main concern with banning a class is this: you ban the tier 1 class, now everybody moves up a rank and tier 2 is the new tier 1. Obviously, this will help alleviate the oppressiveness of a single type of deck (read: Midrange Shaman), but it just replaces itself. Furthermore, it means that you can't play more fun decks from the class like Control or Evolve Shaman (which are anything but competitive right now).
What I would like to see is specific card bans; each week, you would have a set of cards (maybe 10ish) that are banned, based off of % of use and % win rate. Then if Midrange Shaman is a huge issue, maybe Spirit Claws and Tunnel Trogg get rotated out (along with several other cards), and Midrange Shaman is now in line with other decks. The meta is constantly shifting, low-tier decks are mostly untouched and top-tier decks will have to make some interesting substitutions.
Today in my free brawl pack I got Barongeddon, then I had a cup of fresh green tea. As a result of that, I think Priest is OP because my keyboard is not a mechanical one. I hope Blizzard will address this issue.
ahahahhaah. The salt is real. Banning classes from the CASUAL mode.
Oh my god.
If they were going to do any bans it would be the game mode where it would actually matter, not that I approve of that either.
So now if I make my gimmicky control dragon shaman I get an hour long queue because everyone bans shaman? If I'm a new player playing shaman I can't even play anyone? Now I can pick a deck that has some extreme counter like Freeze mage, and just ban warrior and farm wins?

100 percent THIS. I've been banning Warrior in Casual mode for as long as I can remember.

Sounds good. Just ban every class except priest and you get a 100 percent win rate.
What do you mean "it will only be fair to do this for the casual mode"?
There's a legitimate format that is used in every major tournament where you can ban a class... it's called Conquest.
And where is the "conquest" button I click? He is obviously talking about implementing this in the actual game and not as a user created imaginary ban.

You're reading too much into my comment, buddy.
I can simplify it for you if it's too complex: it's fair in tournaments, it can be fair on ladder.

Hall of Fame (ignore list): aleathas, Baylith, cendol, DiamondDM13, Dominieq, doomr, glitterprincess, hamtarofr, Heck, Jwigg33, Kaladin, Krewger, Legend_Entomber, libertyprime, Maukiepaukie, PandarenHero, randjob, s2mikey, SchruteBucks, The_Giratina, TheWamts, ticandtac, tictactucroc, tsudecimo, WaffleMonstr
I'd be all for this just to make the game more diverse and therefor interesting. It gets pretty boring queuing into the same deck all the time.

Gtfo. This is terrible.

This is among the worst idea I have ever heard, and I have heard a lot. I mean, whenever I play freeze mage, I should ban warrior.
People who refuses to play aggro out of principle are even worse than people who play exclusively aggro.
One should seek to become a complete player and play all archetypes, including ones that he despises for whatever irrational reasons.
