Every answer to this thread is off-topic. The real question isn't if the Priest is viable, it doesn't matter if it is viable or competitive. The question is: why can't a non-competitive class exist?
Because then we bitch and bitch about it until Blizzard finally relents and prints Tunnel Trogg, and then the non-competitive class becomes the cancer.
why does every class have to be 100% competitive all of the time? Before Standard Dragon and Elise Priest were both usable decks, and to an extent they still are.
Besides, why would you want the most frustrating class to play against to be overly present in the meta. When Priest is actually reliable he becomes very frustrating very fast
Usable is not competitive. Dragon and Elise Priest were never better than a Tier 2 deck AND Priest has never been a Tier 1 deck. My question to you is why does Priest have to be non-competitive 100% of the time?
Priest is more than capable of going legend (did it myself last season) - what more do you want? Stop being a sheep believing everything tempo storm says to the letter. Tech your decks, beat the meta. Perfectly possible with priest if you bothered to try.
How does one learn to tech properly? I tried yesterday and it was a complete failure, getting crushed by the very things I was teching for.
Maybe you should tell us how you tech, so that we can know what NOT to do when teching.
But seriously, if u are losing to the things that you are teching against, you are doing it wrong.
I teched for aggro by adding 4 taunts.
Probably will need more, and which ones? Also are you playing in Wild or in Standard? If in Wild, two Deathlords and Sludge Belchers might be enough. In Standard, there are much fewer and worse options available.
My Control Warlock (in Wild) has two Mistress of Pains, two Defender of Arguses, four other buff cards for MoP, two Voidwalkers and two Antique Healbots. This totals in at least 20 heal and four taunts of decent size, and I also have 3 AoEs there. Yet, although my wr against aggro is pretty good, I still sometimes lose to aggro.

Good point. So my suggestion is "Blizzard, either don't make Priest competitive or just kill it off".
sadly unless blizzard tries to make this game more skill based, priest will always be an iffy class. but hey if that day comes priest will probably be tier 1 consistently
What? There's going to be the best winners and losers of every expantion, just be patient. And i think i remember priest being a power house not even half a year ago. Unwarranted post in my opinion.
They already kill it off by giving it crap cards, Blizzard had already made their choice. It's now up to you to come to terms with it. Priest is the new Shaman.
All to conclude is the hope that Blizz will give Priest some broken cards from the summer adventure set (Jul-Aug) to replace the Shaman tier with another class (being sacrificed). Priest usually gets good cards from Adventure Set rather than the Expansion set anyway. ex: Entomb, Twilight Whelp & Dark Cultist.

I teched for aggro by adding 4 taunts.
taunts arent really hard counters to aggro decks, they have the ability to burst them down with favorable trades. You need board clears and minions that can trade 2/1 in the early game to stay alive until they run out of steam.

There's no such thing as a favourable trade for aggro decks. They have to trade 3 guys into 1 Sen'jin or Monkey.

And that's why face never trade is a thing.
That's far from the truth. Aggro decks almost always require a few favorable trades to survive until reaching lethal and often require those trades to gain early board advantage, though fleeting it may be. That's what Argent Squire, Abusive Sergeant, Crazed Alchemist, SI7:Agent, Lightning Bolt, Rockbiter Weapon, etc. are often used for; without a few good trades an aggro deck will not win any matchup (save some Hunter decks pre-WoG).
Priest has the best ways to increase deck size without drawing. MC, entomb both give -1 card for your opponent +1 for you.
Thoughtsteal, shifting shade gives you 1 free card.
Be careful what you wish for here, control vs control can be insanely boring, especially if you know by turn 5 that your deck will eventually lose. (Nzoth paladin after tirion sylvanad entomb).Also... and... painful
Few classes can afford to play value vs priest -especially since tempo is so important nowerdays- you dont "only" need a boardclear - you need solid 2-5 plays.
Hope priest stays less consistant and rared tbh - even if its the first class I hit 500 with
All other 8 classes have been through so many archetypes from Aggro to Tempo/Midrange and Control. Priest does not have to be stuck with Control/Fatigue archetype to be competitive. Blizz needs to push more for a Tempo and Midrange Priest instead of giving those stealing, AoE removal, and such cards that could only defend and lengthen Priest's game.......

I was/am already running Auch/Embrace/Circle, EE, Nova, and both Shadow Words. The only other board clears I can put in are SW: Horror, but that misses a lot of aggro's board.

If Blizz ever decide to buff priest then they should nerf the "unfun to play against" aspect of it. Im sure they are aware of that the question is if they will do it/when they will do it while still make priest somewhat unique class, thats the hard part.
Again proof from tempostorm.com that the class is not competitive. The top Priest deck is Rank 8 and there are 8 classes, what does that tell you?
That logic doesn't compute. Your screenshot of the meta ranks from Tempostorm clearly show that it's a Tier 2 deck not Tier 3 or 4 and also it's not 8th out of 8 classes as the top 7 places are comprised of only 4 classes, Shaman, Warrior, Rogue and Warlock. So in essence your screenshot proves the OPPOSITE of what you are trying to push in the act that Paladin, Druid and Huntard are ALL ranked UNDERNEATH priest!
The controlling/stealing aspect of priest is so central to the design of the class that I'm not sure Blizzard will ever buff them to being top tier OR give them a more aggressive deck (Dragon Priest notwithstanding).
Not necessarily because they have anything against Priests, but because there will be more people whining on the forums than for any other class if Priests get their own powerful aggro tools AND can steal everything and hard removal your things.
Veterans to playing Priests/Clerics in games that include them should be privy to the fact that we are historically the least favored by the devs, anyways. It's the nature of the thing.
All that being said, we should definitely get some cool cards in the next adventure. Entomb is going away soon, afterall. Also, something in my soul detests the fact that Paladins can outheal Priest, generally.
They debilitated Druid with nerfs and never give Priest anything even remotely close to OP. And they still give nice shiny cards to their favorite classes. Ben Brode's is Paladin, so of course Ragnaros, Lightlord, a Legendary that would have meshed so well with Priest, ended up in Paladin where it's just a mediocre minion at best.

Dragon priest was tier 1 for 1 or 2 weeks some months ago. That's how far i remember

The 'steal your stuff' mechnic is a core to the entire priest class.

there are zero priest decks in tournaments. Do you see any? I dont.
