I crafted a golden Brightwing recently. It's really useful to activate dragon cards, create tempo in the early game, and 25% of the time it gives me a game winning legendary. The rest of the time I just get some stats to drop onto the board, which is important in a heavily spell based class such as mage.
I like him in theory, but I find way too often I get a legendary I can't even play. Looked at his stats on hsreplay.net and he's in about 1%. I want to like him so I gave him a shot and may do so again down the road.
Went back to the two Dragons that are spell protected with cost 2 and 4. After beating a Face Hunter with aggro I'm trying to beef up my early damage. Make him have to deal with my board rather than just punch me in the face every turn. That even means Zephyr on turn 2 to get a beast companion or extra crystal turn 3 depending whether or not I have another minion to drop turn 3.
Fire Hawk was awesome vs Warlock, I had a 9/3 on turn 4. But it's not enough attack in a lot of cases vs others since many are playing cards right away.
Stalled out mid rank 9 so far. So between 10-1* and 9-3* is the current back and forth.
Took out the 4 coat spell protected dragon and put Faceless Corruptor back in. I have enough early minions now to make more use of it. That's the hypothesis anyway.
Good luck on your climb. I managed to reach rank 6 from rank 20 with apxvoid's liss and then switched over to highlander rogue to get to 5.
If you don't run pocket galaxy plus stargazer luna your winrate will probably tank because pocket galaxy+ stargazer luna offers huge swing turn that can end the game. Most of my wins have been with this combo. 1. play pocket galaxy 2. next turn play luna and draw and play all my big 1 cost minions. The game ends right there. You honestly just need to get lucky and not face any hunter and it'll be an easy climb. best of luck
Talk you out of it? It's a very fun deck and I was able to climb to 5 with it! I think you should do whatever it takes to get Zeppy and Malygos Aspect of Magic. I strongly feel it will be a viable deck throughout the next 3 expansions. Also because itz highlander a lot of cards can be subbed out for others if you dont have them.

Arcane Intellect fits that goal well. It's another Ice Barrier for FH or Counterapell vs Priest bringing back an army from the dead. Lots of versaitility and a 2/2 on the board.
Key cards I am missing from the published deck are Galaxy, KaleCgos, Alex, Luna, Zilliax. Trying to make do without. Satisfied with reaching rank 9 but now trying for more.
I have several cards on the bubble of going back in like Faceless Corruptor and several on the bubble of being subbed out. Being new to the game I still need to see a bunch of games to see how exactly things turn out then tweak again. I keep looking back at this thread for ideas too.
Agreed. It seems to me that one of Face Hunter's weaknesses is that it's main designed defense vs. board minions is secrets otherwise he has to use up some of his face hitters. He relies on ending the game, or at least putting you on deaths door, by turn 6-8 before anything life threatening can do any real damage. So my goal is to get more on the board quicker to force him to address them rather than my face and take out that secret finding minion quickly. Since his deck isn't designed to address the board it puts him at a value and efficiency disadvantage doing so and buys me time to hit back. It's worked a couple times so far, need more data.
Here is an update on the current deck. Curve is still too heavy at the back end but when I make it late it can still hit hard.
The only Legendaries I had to craft were Zephyr and Reno (with well reasoned encouragement here)... and I don't regret either, they are both so much fun.
Your winning strategy is different from mine because I rely on Luna’s Pocket Galaxy to fill the board multiple times. Only rank 11 right now because I’m missing so many good epics. Saw that you had crafted Arcane Keysmith even though you had argued against crafting Luna’s Pocket Galaxy due to rotation. Are you going to be playing this deck in Wild when it rotates eventually?
I crafted Rolling Fireball just now and Tortollan Pilgrim a few days ago but still can't get past rank 11. Constant aggro from Rogue, Warlock, Warrior, and the occasional Hunter is preventing me from ranking up. They seem to have insane combos while my anti aggro cards are stuck in my deck. Not sure what the solution is.
It's my favourite deck but don't expect anything beyond Tier 3 lads. I have switched to a completely abusive Galakrond Warrior to farm the ladder. Good times.

Took out Frizz and Twighlight for Brightening and Firehawk to test. Fire Hawk is actually quite fun and often effective.

No, I wouldnt craft that ever. One my of 'stellar' first 6 legend pulls in the game. It probably won't stay in there... Just trying it.

The deck is intrinsically weak to facetard. Ice Barrier is worth it imo

Ah crap, I didn't check to see when it was rotating out. At least it's only an Epic. My intent at the moment is to stay in standard if I can.
I made it up to rank 8-2* after avoiding Face Hunter 6 matches in a row. 5 match winning streak busted by a Priest with an unGodly amount of healing.
