I'm skeptical of the balance of Terrorsaur, but its a pretty awesome card regardless.
I actually think it's pretty balanced. Shadow Step is 0 mana, Sap is 2 mana. And this Terrorsaur has below average stats and the conditional stuff about having a greater attack. I actually think it's a bit too "busy" of a card, just doing too much at once, without a specific use. So while I don't know it's a great card, I doubt that it's OP.
A lot of people failed to make what I felt was an Un'goro card. Cards like Manasaur and Oncurvasaur are generic design that have dinosaur art and 'saur' lazily tacked onto their names. If you're going to make a dinosaur card, it should make sense as a dinosaur, and it should make sense within the themes of Un'goro. Granted, we don't know all of them yet, but an effort should have at least been made. I like the cards that used Adapt the best, Charles Darwinsaur and Alyssa. Charles Darwinsaur may be too powerful compared to the Justicar Hero Power, but it's a good idea.
Thanks to everyone who voted for me, its a honor to be here ;)
Goodluck to everyone, and may the best card win :)
How much exactly did we know about the expansion prior to this competition? We've seen a few cards with Adapt, and you think everything should have it? IF everybody went with Adapt, wouldn't that be boring as hell? How many cards with Adapt have we've seen released lately? You're entitled to your opinion, but you're not judging fairly if you think every card in an expansion should have that specific keyword to fit this themes restrictions. You could name a lot of cards in the other expansions that doesn't fit in at all, at least these cards does so.
Yeah, I really wanted to see people use the new keyword in clever ways, like Toxicbrah and Puple did. I was disappointed that so few people did. I mean, why would you pass up the opportunity to use something new? If you didn't use Adapt, you should have a thematic reason why your card is a dinosaur, like with Terrorsaur. That one makes sense because the T. Rex is scaring away the minions. It's probably my third favorite card this week. I just don't think a T. Rex minion fits the theme of Rogue, although the mechanic does. Pterrordactyl made the effort to tie the mechanic into its flavor. Bloodthirsty Devilsaur makes some sense, too. But what do Oncurvasaur and Manasaur have to do with dinosaurs besides their art?
Adapt wasn't part of this themes restrictions, why judge by it? As said, not all Un'Goro cards are going to have, so it seems pretty weird you would have it as a restriction. It's fair that you don't like that card, but you call a card lazy cause it doesn't fit your idea of how it should be? That's not cool. You interpret it how you like, it wasn't a restriction, hence you shouldn't call a design lazy cause it doesn't fit your idea. You might think the name Manasaurus us forced, I personally see it as a pun blizzard could do.
Un'Goro is a placed imbued with energy of all sorts, why shouldn't a dinosaur be imbued with mana? I feel like your way of thinking what makes a card belong in a certain expansion is way too narrow.

A dinosaur could be all sorts of things. It could have a Vanish effect because it's a Smokebombasaur. It could spawn copies of itself because it's a Spawnasaurus. Any concept can be tacked onto the idea of dinosaur. I consider a design lazy when it doesn't connect back to the theme in a meaningful way. A dinosaur could be imbued with magical energy (or with shadow energy, or with fire energy, or it could be possessed by a ghost, etc.). But when the only restriction is to make a dinosaur, you should come up with a concept that makes sense for a dinosaur. Anything could be imbued with magical energy if you stick Mana in front of it's name: Mana Crystal, Mana Cat, Mana Refrigerator, etc. What is the point of having the dinosaur theme if people can just make anything and stick 'saur' at the end? To fit the spirit of the contest, it has to actually make sense that you made a dinosaur. Your card could just have easily been a Mana Cat, Mana Tree, or Mana Chimera.
Professor Charles Darwinsaur: Its my card... Offcourse i have a liking to it :)
Oncurveasaurus: I personally find it balanced, and it has such a great flavor, and a great name. I see what people are trying to say about that its mechanic is not dinosaur specific, but its just too great a card to pass up.
Manasaurus: The card we all thought, (and i still think) would end up winning, great flavor, great card, great mechanic, just... Great.
Clever Girl: Still think it should have been a 4/4 Cheese :). That said, its the first deathrattle in the game with a surprise. You have no idea what its gonna do, and it can end up summoning some big minions, and potentially deal 3 to all enemy minions via the Sally effect. That said i think its a little devalued by Sylvanas going to wild.

Thanks man :D Yeah, like I said before I totally get that argument too. To be honest, I simply wasn't that inspired by this week's theme (never been much of a dinosaur enthusiast) and this is just what I came up with :P you also are totally getting my vote ;) very creative, and funny/flavorful to boot. Well done!
Prof. Charles Darwinasaur Great use of the Adapt mechanic by Toxicbrah! I think this just works so well that it really wouldn't suprise me if we see a real card with a similar mechanic at some point in the future. I like the flavor too ;) Only thing I'm not mad about is the art.
Manasaurus I think we all knew this card was a serious contender from the moment Lathy dropped it on page 1 of the discussion thread. Well balanced, great mechanic, great art, great job! What else can I say?
Oncurvasaur There was a lot of discussion about this entry from Livienna :p It went through a lot of iterations but it ended up being a great card. It is very difficult to balance cards like this, but I think Liv did a great job. It's a cool mechanic, nice art and a delicious pun thrown in! What more could you ask for?
Honourable Mentions
Clever Girl It was super close between Clever Girl and Oncurvasaur for one of my top 3 spots. The secret deathrattle is a very cool idea and would be scary to play against. However, the main reason I didn't choose Clever Girl is that Discover a Deathrattle isn't a real thing so this card could not exist in the game as it currently stands. Discover only works for cards and hero powers. Cool idea though so well done to CheeseEtc.
Facethirsty er... Bloodthirsty Devilsaur I really like the flavor of this card! It's probably the only card this week with a true dinosaur flavor! The art is nice too and the mechanic is interesting. A solid entry from The_Edel_Bernal.

Exactly. Anything can be anything. Why couldn't your submission be an Elekk Matriarch or the likes? It doesn't have to be an Raptor other than you wanting it to fit the restriction of a dinosaur-art. Same goes for any of the submissions. You can manipulate them in the direction you want for it to fit the theme. You don't think it makes sense, fine, but we've seen cards like this form blizzard so many times. Cards where they semselves come up with a name. You also think that's lazy? I'd say that's creative. You calling it lazy, I say I actually tried to make the name, art, effect and "story" of the card fit together within the restrictions I was given.

My card is a raptor because raptors are known for grouping in packs, which ties in with an effect that targets adjacent minions. The leader takes the best Adaptation for itself, and the followers get the other Adaptations. That right there is how I tied it in to being a dinosaur. It makes sense specifically because it's a raptor. Yes, it could have been other things, but not anything. It had to be a pack animal, and Raptors are one of the things known for that. Dinosaurs aren't known for being imbued with magical energy.
You're missing the point here. Blizzard doesn't need to make every one of their dinosaurs make a lot of sense for being a dinosaur. It isn't a justification to say that they have goofy cards sometimes. You aren't making a set of dinosaurs, where many of those will have aspects that relate thematically to being a dinosaur, while some will be goofy cards. You are making a single card that is a dinosaur, which should exemplify how being a dinosaur affects your design. If you make a card that has nothing to do with dinosaurs, what the hell was the point of having the restriction of being a dinosaur? Was this just an exercise to find dinosaur art for a card? There's nothing about this theme that ties in with your design.

No, it isn't just about dinosaur art, it's the combination of art, name and effect. Clearly, you're the one missing the point of this week. When one of the creators of the theme say it's one of the best cards, don't you think I fulfil the thought behind it? You're making up your own idea how it should be. I'm sorry that I bring this up, but pepe was a bad card cause it didn't fit YOUR theme (and I agree that it was bad). This week, the creator of the theme took a liking at my card, and you tell me it doesn't fit? Don't call other peoples design lazy when you don't know the thought or process behind it.
Prof. Charles Darwinasaur Great use of the Adapt mechanic by Toxicbrah! I think this just works so well that it really wouldn't suprise me if we see a real card with a similar mechanic at some point in the future. I like the flavor too ;) Only thing I'm not mad about is the art.
Thanks for the support man, you probaly did like a half of the work for the flavor of the card ;)
Kinda dissapointed that your card diden't make it to the finals. If was either my secound or third favorite card this week.
Glad you liked the name and flavor text (͡°͜ʖ͡°)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I want a new title, but Flux won't let me have one,
Alright, i guess i also found my favourites for this week:
Prof. Charles Darwinsaur: Given the fact that i'm not particularly excited about the new adaptation mechanic, i think this is the most creative use of it yet.
Alyssa: It's actually strange how i keep banging on about me not liking 'Adapt' and all - yet my top two are the only finalsts using it :D. Nevertheless i think this card really grasps the whole 'exploring Un'goro' theme of the upcoming expansion and this weeks competition - travelling through the crater and cataloging the several different species. This card is telling a story and to me (as a writer) that is a better justification for the mechanic than some random dinos that have simply been infused with magic (magic is a very lazy way of storytelling btw).
Manasaurus: And now, to make my previous point completely obsolete - this card :D. But even though the saurus could very well be a mana-infused wombat, i think the effect is still great. I think we really need more of this mana-refreshment-mechanic introduced with Kun since it brings with it such a variety of uses and potential combos.
Some additional Notes:
Oncurvasaur: I'm not gonna dwell on the huge discussion this card had to go through :D. I kinda like the idea of it and i think Priest will likely need another push with a lot of the dragons being kicked out of standard, but the thought of facing more Curve-Priests with turn-2-Oncurvasaur into Talonpriest felt wrong in several ways - i apologize :D.
On-Call-Mount: I truly like the idea of a card that offers the opportunity to recycle itself numerous times if you want/need to, but aside from that it simply is a 5 mana 5/5 with taunt - to me that just felt a little too 'basic'. However that is just me being picky, i guess ^^'.
Clever Girl: Discovering a Deathrattle is a really cool and simple idea. I also don't see a big problem with it actually working in the game. But the part about the opponent not seeing the effect sounds really dangerous to me. I do get that this probably is the whole point of it but i think you would at least have to heavily playtest this to finally judge it. Plus i'd rather be forced to play around something i can see or at least deduct what it might be. Given the numerous Deathrattles existing within the game, i don't think that would be possible (except if you maybe limit the discoverable Deathrattles to those of standard cards? Not sure though).
Finally i'm courious why no one touched the fossilize- or reviving-from-fossil mechanic that one could haveeasily gone for this week. I think that aspect of the dino-theme could have made for some really interestin entries.
All in all some pretty exciting finalists this week - really looking forward to whoever is going to make it in the end. Personally i'm putting my money on Toxibrah for now :)

I thought it was an interesting idea too, however I think it might have gotten DQed for not picturing a dino... mods, can you post the data set? :D

Well my card used the fossil-restriction as a benefit, but I'm not sure if I would be DQed because of that.

I actually diden't even think i would fare this well thoughout the submission and finalist phase. (The art sucks) But i am really happy that so many people likes it so far :)

FYI, our original idea was to make a Beast Hunter week (Hunter card that synergizes with Beasts) but mods thought it was too similar to my Dragon Paladin week so we agreed on the dinosaur theme instead. This means that I don't think there are types of cards that fit the theme more than others (if I did I would have specified it). I like your card for its general flavor rather than for its "adequation" with this week's theme.
The same goes for my Dragon Paladin week (to a lesser extent). Dragon Paladin isn't really a deck and there are several ways in which you can build it. Part of the week's challenge was to find this theme (I even specified that I did NOT want DPaladin to play like DPriest).
Contrast this with the Beast Druid week. Beast druid is a well-established archetype with a well-defined playstyle. It is relatively easy to tell if a particular card would fit/help Beast Druid or not (well it wasn't for those who voted for Pepe but that's another issue). Some week's themes are more permissive than others. This one was very permissive. Beast druid wasn't.
Finally i'm courious why no one touched the fossilize- or reviving-from-fossil mechanic that one could haveeasily gone for this week. I think that aspect of the dino-theme could have made for some really interestin entries.
I thought it was an interesting idea too, however I think it might have gotten DQed for not picturing a dino... mods, can you post the data set? :D
Well my card used the fossil-restriction as a benefit, but I'm not sure if I would be DQed because of that.
I dont think that would be DQed at all but there would have been so many more ways of putting that theme to use. For example, something like a 'Glowing Fossil' that lets you discover/create a dino (maybe kazakus-style with some gene-manipulation involved) and transforms into that minion should easily fit the restrictions, shouldn't it?
Alright, i guess i also found my favourites for this week:
Prof. Charles Darwinsaur: Given the fact that i'm not particularly excited about the new adaptation mechanic, i think this is the most creative use of it yet.
Thank you so much for your support <3
I actually diden't even think i would fare this well thoughout the submission and finalist phase. (The art sucks) But i am really happy that so many people likes it so far :)
Sure thing - i think your card really sold that mechanic pretty well :)
Also i'm always willing to overlook lacks in the art for an interesting concept (like i kinda did with my card :D).
Congrats to all the finalists this week =)
Best of luck to you all!
Will place my votes when I've decided my top 3 :p

MY PERSONAL FAVORITES:

Great use of the Adapt mechanic by Toxicbrah!
I think this just works so well that it really wouldn't suprise me if we see a real card with a similar mechanic at some point in the future.
I like the flavor too ;)
Only thing I'm not mad about is the art.
Manasaurus
I think we all knew this card was a serious contender from the moment Lathy dropped it on page 1 of the discussion thread.
Well balanced, great mechanic, great art, great job!
What else can I say?
Oncurvasaur
There was a lot of discussion about this entry from Livienna :p
It went through a lot of iterations but it ended up being a great card.
It is very difficult to balance cards like this, but I think Liv did a great job.
It's a cool mechanic, nice art and a delicious pun thrown in!
What more could you ask for?
Honourable Mentions
Clever Girl
It was super close between Clever Girl and Oncurvasaur for one of my top 3 spots.
Bloodthirsty Devilsaur
I really like the flavor of this card!
It's probably the only card this week with a true dinosaur flavor!
The art is nice too and the mechanic is interesting.
A solid entry from The_Edel_Bernal.
Best of luck to all of the finalists!
Unfortunately I did not reach the final poll but it's ok... We have really cool finalists here, I already voted for my favorites!
Good luck to all!
Voted for...
Oncurvasaur: Because priest needs this shift. (even if you don't play it on curve)
Jurassic Pals: Honestly, I felt people overlooked this one. Has noone ever tried a King Krush OTK?
I don't really understand why everyone likes On-Call Mount so much? Congrats. Pyros. wut now?
Wished to be pink.
Then did.
Then fired myself.
Then did again.
