This weeks theme comes from Zanywoop, whose "Anubisath Crusher" was the winner of our "Revenge of the Keywords" competition.
The nine Hearthstone classes represent the nine original World of Warcraft classes. As World of Warcraft has introduced a few new classes since its launch, there have been frequent requests from the community for Hearthstone to add those classes as well: The Death Knight, the Monk, and the Demon Hunter. It's often been debated what the best way would be to introduce these classes, or even if they should ever be introduced at all, but the Mean Streets of Gadgetzan expansion has given us a new potential way of conceptualizing these classes: What if we introduce the Death Knight, the Monk, and the Demon Hunter into the game as class "factions" similar to the Grimy Goons, the Kabal, and the Jade Lotus, taking advantage of the tri-class card mechanic?
With this hypothetical in mind, we've split the existing nine classes into three: Mages, Paladins, and Shamans will form the new Death Knight faction. Druids, Priests, and Warriors will form the new Monk faction. And Hunters, Rogues, and Warlocks will form the new Demon Hunter faction.
Your task will be to select one of these new factions and design three tri-class cards for it, similar to how each of the Gadgetzan crime families includes three tri-class cards. Your three cards will similarly be comprised of one Common minion, one Rare minion, and one Legendary minion, all representing your chosen faction.
Competition-Specific Restrictions:
Your submission must have the following elements to be legal
Three cards for one of the proposed factions, consisting of a common, a rare and a legendary.
Since these cards would be inherently 'neutral' if this design were chosen, they must be minions, and they must use the neutral card background.
You must state in your submission which faction you are designing for - don't assume just because you used pandas that you don't have to say you were making cards for Monk.
UPDATE: In order to keep the submission topic clean, your cards must fit on one line. Any additional cards must be in spoilers.
The factions, for reference, are broken down as follows
Death Knight - Paladin, Mage and Shaman
Monk - Warrior, Druid and Priest
Demon Hunter - Warlock, Rogue and Hunter

Discussion Topic Rules
To make sure that everything runs smoothly, we need to reserve the Submission Topic for submissions only. Everything else goes here. What is everything else, you might ask?
Rules or Process. Do you have a question about the competition's process? Do you need clarification about one of the entry requirements? Are you not sure whether your entry adhered to the rules? Ask here!
Feedback or Ideas. Do you have some ideas you'd like to run by others before settling on one? Do you need help balancing or wording your entry? Do you need help finding art that will fit your card? Or do you just want feedback from the community on your entry? You're in the right place! Remember, although you are allowed to make minor tweaks to your entry after you've submitted it, you're only allowed one submission per week, so make sure that you've settled on your card for sure beforehand.
Discussion! Do you have thoughts on other people's entries? Are there directions you don't like that you're seeing too many people take? Or directions you'd like to see more people take? Would you like to help others and contribute to a greater community understanding of Hearthstone card design and balance? This is where you want to be!
All of that said, please refrain from the following:
Posting TONS of Ideas. Discussion topics become an absolute mess if everybody is posting a dozen different ideas. Please post not more than 3 distinct ideas at a time. Any more than that and we'll have to delete your post.
Advertising Your Entry. Please don't pop in here just to advertise your entry only to never be heard from again. This includes only asking short, generic, or insincere questions like "Thoughts?" or "Do you think this is interesting?". Yes, getting feedback on your entry is one of the purposes of this topic, but we're not just here for other people to help you. We're here for you all to help each other. 12 hours after this competition begins, there should be plenty of other posts here for you to give specific feedback or for you to comment on a trend. If you post your entry for feedback after this time and do not also offer some form of substantial commentary, critique, or praise of others' work, you may find your post deleted.
Plagiarism. Many people post their ideas here before finalizing them in the submission topic. Directly plagiarizing those ideas to post in the submission topic yourself is absolutely not acceptable.
So, without further ado, have fun and get creating!
Wow, I had a very similar idea for introducing the three new classes, although I was going to expand it beyond just tri-class factions. That gives you more room to say which classes fit with which new classes. These class breakdowns don't make much sense for some of them. Shaman and Warrior should be switched, for one.
We design 3 cards, choosing one of the three pools of classes listed at the bottom?
The title of the competition makes it sound like we are designing cards for the new classes, that's what's so confusing.
The three new "classes" are actually tri-class factions. So, you're making a card like Jade Spirit, but instead of being for the Jade Lotus tri-class faction, you're making it for the Monk tri-class faction (which is Warrior, Priest, and Druid).
Sorry but the requirements are too confuse. Can you give an example please ?
If you look at the existing factions as an example - say the Jade Lotus - it contains a common, rare and legendary minion, that can be used by three classes.
We've provided the class distributions and the names of the factions, and now it's up to you to create the three cards, trying for theme and an interesting mechanic (like how Jade Lotus had Jade Golems).

We were originally going to have the competition just be to create a new tri-class faction, based on whatever three classes you wanted, but this seemed too broad, so we scaled it back. The idea with this split for the classes was to have it so that no two classes that had been together in Mean Streets were together for this, just to help further diversify it, so they were split as best possible with those requirements.

The class pools are concurrently picked based around Lore and mixing of the original three families (There is no overlap in my layout, I checked). I'll break it down for you lorewise...
Death Knight: These were all meant to be fallen heroes, so here's where that works out
Paladin The most obvious of the bunch, the paladins who fell from the light such as the OG himself Arthas
Mage Think of the liches like Kel'Thuzad. They all used to be human mages that also fell from grace
Shaman See this harkens back to necromancers, which is what many of the original horde's shamans became in early wars. Many may not know the Lich King himself is a Shaman- Ner'zhul, to be precise.
Demon Hunter: This was based around the various skills of the demon hunter
Warlock The most obvious choice. The Demon Hunter gives in to demonic powers to kill demons. They're hypocrites, but what can ya do
Rogue In WoW the DPS spec plays oh so very similarly to a faster rogue with laser eyes
Hunter Demon Hunters (That's one reason) are master trackers, even with the ability to see through walls
Monk: I actually main a Brewmaster monk in WoW. These picks were based off of those that have found peace so to speak
Warrior Hear me out on this one. I went for a two-fold route of the martial knowledge it takes to be a monk and the fact that that's the root of monk lore- They started as Panadren Warriors who simply didn't have weapons because they were under Mogu rule.
Druid Nothing says inner peace like the druid. This also covers the nature aspect of Monk's powers.
Priest And finally the mistweavers and healers of the original pandaren rebellion.
I understand it's not perfect but I made some compromises to keep the original families completely separated
Do we use the Neutral template or can we use Monk, Death Knight or Demon Hunter one? (as they have them on Hearthcards :S)
I think to keep everything more fair, since not everyone uses Hearthcards, using a Neutral background would be best. I'll add a note about it to the rules.
I think the use of Deathknight, Monk, and Demon Hunter is what's causing the confusion. We aren't specifically making 3 Destthknight cards, per say. We are making 3 neutral cards with some theme that fit Paladins, Mages, and Shaman, that collectively make a Deathknight theme as well. Did I get that right?

Do we have a limit on tokens and such? If our cards produce other new cards is that allowed and does it have a limit?
There isn't a limit specified in the rules, but remember that of the existing factions, only one creates any new tokens as part of their mechanic, and it is technically only one token. Overcomplicating your entry with tokens I think will definitely work against you this week, especially since you already have to create 3 cards.

Yes, that's essentially correct. I imagined it this way - when tackling the overall theme and mechanical ideas of your cards, you should be looking at Death Knight, Monk and Demon Hunter; when looking for more specific ideas and balancing, you look to the classes that make up those new factions.
Looks rather challenging. Can we post card ideas in the discussion topic to...discuss about? May take a few tries to get some ideas right, and might want advice from a little more experienced user-creators.

Trying to make completely new class combinations for three tri-classes is good enough justification.

That's generally what the discussion topic is used for. You should do that every week as a general rule.

I'm just unsure if the "3 cards rule" also applies to the discussion topic ie. I post 3 ideas in the discussion topic but I change one of my ideas thus it becoming a "4th" card, or if the 3 card rule applies exclusively to the submission topic
Some people asked for an example. Here's a very barebones one I just sped out (Didn't do any balancing here)
Demon Hunter
Basic, one token design. Mind you, the rare doesn't HAVE to be a discover card. Legendary isn't real, wasn't in MSoG as well. Simple effect carried over across the concept that can effect the three classes differently; In Warlock it can push a handlock, rogue a miracle, hunter maybe a malyhunter. Basically you just want a triple class concept that can push different formats for the different classes while putting a unique spin on the source material.
Post whatever ideas you've got here if you're worried about lore, someone will most likely help you who's played WoW.

The 3 card rule is specifically for submissions. We don't expect you to have your final ideas fleshed out before asking for opinions. That being said, try and keep a reasonable number of cards in each post, just so the topic isn't too cluttered - it's a bit of a slog to read through 12 different card ideas, for example =P

So we're redoing Gadgetzan with one of three different "Factions" called Death knight, Monk, and Demon hunter? And those factions now have must each follow an original concept (like Kabal's Reno, Goon's Handbuff, and Jade Lotus's Jade Golems). Correct me if I'm wrong.
(And death knight seems more warrior, mage, and pally; and monk as shaman, druid, priest; but ok.)
