"Sure, it's the last resort Ner'zhul... so why are you playing it turn 1?"

Owing to the general inconsistency of stats between cheap demons, I elected for the Totem to be cheaper than Nerubian Egg. You can  high roll but most often you're getting something that's averaging to 3/3 with one keyword. The flavor here is that Warlocks owe their lineage to Shamans; Ner'zhul is often regarded as the first Warlock in lore.

Alright, let's do some quick comments, in reverse order!

@hikarigami I'd argue that if this is going to both produce continued value and be playable turn one, the Elemental either needs to be 1m 1/1 or 2m 2/2, as most classes won't be able to remove this before it can get any value. You can keep the 1m 2/2 token statline if the totem costed more (And probably has more health). I think this generally works conceptually though, like it!

@Hereharehere I like the concept of Mechemist (It'd need a battlecry tag), though I think it's worth asking if they attach in a sort of Arcane Missile fashion or only go one mech to one demon if you have more than one? The Earthsong Staff is interesting. Would it count as playing an elemental if you threw down a Tunnel Trogg for your Elemental bonuses? These both need a bit of a grammatical and spelling check but both are good new ideas, I prefer Mechemist.

@Filipter I'd say this is OP, but I mean... I play a Prismatic Lens deck... I think this is a solid card. Capitalize the tribe tags and the transmutation part.

@JoshoPrime Spicy, this is interesting. That being said, is it balanced? That, I couldn't say. My mental math says yes, but I wonder if having both tribe tags throws that off. Other than that, I find the concept good. Check the previous entry for the listed spelling issues.

@Klipce Yummy Piglet is very interesting conceptually, the breakdown comes from the fact that a premium statline for dragons is 4/12. At 10 mana it might be balanced, but I somehow doubt that'd fit the flavor.

@lol9000 I mean it's not balanced. As a general rule no card should do more damage than Pyroblast without like... Holy Wrath + Shirvallah the Tiger level of setup. You don't necessarily need to scrap this concept (I mean if it's a joke as some people have suggested, go for it), you tone it down and it'd probably work.

@Screwjank Artistically, it fits really well. However... It's been done. I praised Mechemist earlier not because I'm the biggest fan of magnetize cross minion types (I generally think it would require way, way too much back-balancing, not in this cards case but in general) but because it just straight up ends the turn. Otherwise these concepts just feel... well, played out. Otherwise, I do like the idea of a generally weak minion type getting a +3/+3 boost cross class.

    Competition Theme: In-Fin-itely Worse

First of all, congratulations to MrBurger for choosing our theme waaaaaay back in December, before we all got busy.
This week, it's time to mix and match across species lines; You must combine two minion type synergies into one card.
    • Your card may be in any class or card type, but must either synergize with a minion type other than it's own or synergize with multiple minion types if it's not a minion.
    • Examples: Skyfin, Tasty Flyfish

    General Competition Rules

These are the rules that remain consistent from competition to competition.

    Posting Rules

    • You are allowed to submit only one entry.
    • After your submit, you may only make minor edits to your submissions (spelling, grammar, etc.). Please PM a fan creations moderator if you have questions regarding an edit you are not sure about.
    • You may not delete ANY posts you make in this Submission Topic, not even accidental ones. Please PM a fan creations moderator if you make a mistake in your submission.
    • This thread is for submissions only. Any discussion of the competition must take place in the discussion topic.

These are the rules about your Submission:

    • Your card cannot be Golden, have a hearthcards.net generated backdrop, or any major photo editing done to it.
    • You are allowed to post in this Submission Topic only once, only to submit your one entry.
    • Accompanying the image of your card, you may offer some minimal additional commentary to explain its design, balance, and/or other qualities. Flavor text is also welcome.
    • You may not plagiarize. An immediate qualification is the punishment for this offense.
    • You must host your card on a image hosting website. postimage.org is highly recommended. imgur.com currently has issues on this site and images hosted there do not show up.
    • Fun and even humorous entries are perfectly allowed, but "troll" entries will be disqualified. If you're worried that your card may be misinterpreted as a troll card, contact a moderator before you submit. Emote-related cards will be considered a troll entry.
    • We reserve the right to classify cards as "troll" entries as we deem necessary, even if the reasoning is not explicitly stated in the rules.

A Note on Group Submissions: If you team up with other people to submit an entry, you must enclose that information in your submission and none of you may upvote that entry. That would be considered an unfair advantage and we will treat it as vote-manipulation. You are technically voting for yourself, and that is not allowed. Failing to tell us you're in a group is also against the rules, as we'll have no choice but to assume that you withheld the information to ghost-vote your group's submission.

Finally, know that manipulating votes in any way is strictly forbidden. Any violators will receive an official warning, and will be banned from this and all future HearthPwn Card Design Competitions.

    Posting Tutorial

This is a posting tutorial for the website imgur.com. If you use another website, the process will be similar.

    1. It is recommended you use hearthcards.net to create your cards. Save the generated card to your device.
    2. Upload the image to imgur.com. You do not need an account.
    3. After your image is uploaded, many links will be generated. Find the "Direct link". It will have a .jpg or .png at the end of the link. Copy the link.
    4. On your hearthpwn post, find the "Insert/edit image" button:
    5. Paste the direct link. This is recommended but not mandatory: You may choose to make the image smaller by changing the image dimensions.

     Competition Process

Below is a list of all the deadlines for this contest:

    Preview Phase (Jan. 14, 2020 [10:00 PM CST] -  Jan. 15, 2020 [10:00 PM CST])
The Discussion Topic is made available, previewing this week's competition theme.
Entry and Early Voting Phase (Jan. 15, 2020 [10:00 PM CST] -  Jan. 19, 2020 [10:00 PM CST])
During this Phase, the Submission Topic will be unlocked. You may also, of course, feel free to give early up-votes to any submissions that you like!
    Voting Phase (Jan. 19, 2019 [10:00 PM CST] -  Jan. 20, 2020 [10:00 PM CST])
During this Phase, the Submission Topic will be locked, so no more entries may be submitted. Instead, use this time to browse the submissions and up-vote your favorites!
    Final Phase (Jan. 20, 2020 [10:00 PM CST] -  Jan. 21, 2020 [10:00 PM CST])
During this Phase, the Discussion Topic will also be locked, and a Finalists Thread will go up. Discussion will be allowed to continue in the Finalists Thread, and it will also include all the qualifying finalists and a poll to decide the winner of the competition!

How do we determine the qualifying finalists? We use the following formula:

     ab ) / ( ) = x

    Where,
a = The total number of submissions on the same page as the submission.
b = The total number of up-votes that the submission received.
c = The total number of up-votes on the same page as the submission.
    x = The submission's final score.

The formula basically measures which cards stood out the most, with the necessary assumption that each page is about equal in overall submission quality. It will be the entries that receive the highest final scores that move on to the Final Phase.

The bottom line is that, although entries on the earlier pages of the Submission Topic are much more visible and thus receive many more up-votes than entries on later pages, you don't actually have to rush to get your entry in as soon as possible because the up-votes end up being weighted by what page your entry ends up on in order to determine its final score.

But wait, there's more! During each Weekly Card Design Competition, each Fan Creation Forum moderators will be given a Wild Card , which they can use to advance any one entry that they feel was initially overlooked or under-appreciated to the Final Phase, regardless of its final score. Wild Cards are our way of spicing things up a bit, but please don't ask to be given one or be upset if you aren't given one. These are just supposed to be fun.
(Also, it should go without saying that, while we moderators are allowed to participate in the competitions, we are not allowed to benefit from Wild Cards.)

    Rewards

Bragging rights are always awesome, but as usual, we do offer a couple of HearthPwn site rewards to competition winners:
Their card forever immortalized in our Winners' Gallery!
They will be allowed to select the next card design competition theme.
And a unique Avatar Border & " Card Design Champion " Title, as depicted below!

    Discussion Topic Rules

To make sure that everything runs smoothly, we need to reserve the Submission Topic for submissions only. Everything else goes here. What is everything else, you might ask?

        • Rules or Process. Do you have a question about the competition's process? Do you need clarification about one of the entry requirements? Are you not sure whether your entry adhered to the rules? Ask here!
        • Feedback or Ideas. Do you have some ideas you'd like to run by others before settling on one? Do you need help balancing or wording your entry? Do you need help finding art that will fit your card? Or do you just want feedback from the community on your entry? You're in the right place! Remember, although you are allowed to make minor tweaks to your entry after you've submitted it, you're only allowed one submission per week, so make sure that you've settled on your card for sure beforehand.
        • Discussion! Do you have thoughts on other people's entries? Are there directions you don't like that you're seeing too many people take? Or directions you'd like to see more people take? Would you like to help others and contribute to a greater community understanding of Hearthstone card design and balance? This is where you want to be!

All of that said, please refrain from the following:

        • Posting TONS of Ideas. Discussion topics become an absolute mess if everybody is posting a dozen different ideas. Please post not more than 3 distinct ideas at a time. Any more than that and we'll have to delete your post.
        • Advertising Your Entry. As a rule of thumb, please don't pop in here just to advertise your entry only to never be heard from again. This includes only asking short, generic questions like "Thoughts?" or "Do you think this is interesting?". Yes, getting feedback on your entry is one of the purposes of this topic, but we're not just here for other people to help you. We're here for you all to help each other
        • Plagiarism. Many people post their ideas here before finalizing them in the submission topic. Directly plagiarizing those ideas to post in the submission topic yourself is absolutely not acceptable.

Competition Theme: The Ideal Minion Body

You may not like it*, but this is the theme for this week. Thanks to BMcGill for the theme for this week! Here we go...

    • You must create a minion who deals damage based on it's health, rather than it's attack. This is what perfection looks like.
    • Furthermore, you are allowed to have a minion (not a spell, weapon, etc.) give another minion this ability.
    • Your card may phrase this however you feel best exemplifies this, but the phrasing we suggest is "This minion's Health is used to deal damage." We are leaving it open this time, so as long as it deals damage based on Health, however you want to do that, we're supporting it.
    • Examples: Lightspawn (We know it's not clearest example, but it's there).
    • BONUS POINTS: Shirtless Dudes. We would like to see Shirtless Dudes. For the record, we're now adding a half-point to your score when calculating for the final poll, and that's how we intend to handle these extra points for now. If you need a shirtless dude the mods have folders full of them.

    * C'mon, who doesn't like Ricardo?

How do we determine the qualifying finalists? We use the following formula:

     ab ) / ( ) = x

    Where,
a = The total number of submissions on the same page as the submission.
b = The total number of up-votes that the submission received.

But wait, there's more! Every now and again we add a fun little addition, which adds a .5 to the final X score. We will always tell you the bonus Points in the rules, and they may not always be a part of the competition.

I tried to give totem Shaman some love! Let me know what you think!

Because they summon at the end of your turn, I think it misses timing for things like Mana Tide Totem. I like the concept, but I think it's slow at 3 mana.

    Quote from GuruGamma >>

Hope this still counts as the Decay on the card is kinda roundabout, any suggestions/clarifications would be very welcome as I went a bit out of my comfort zone making this one.

We made no rule about tokesn this time so it's fine. I think it's fairly powerful, though a nagging thought at the back of my brain says this is too much work to reset. Still, I think it makes sense and works.

    Quote from BMcGill >>

Incredibly slow, but I *think* the balance makes sense with Eaglehorn Bow. I don't think it would be insane to change the durability gain to +1/+1.

    Quote from twistertiger >>

I thought about @Wailor said and i think they are right it was just a bad time out even in a class with healing and armor. i think by adding damage its more of a choice for exchanging durability to attack while immune and keeping immunity but im unsure on the damage. 12 damage with a 7 cost weapon doesnt seem too op especially with 15 damage to your face if you use it two turns in a row even in an aggro deck but maybe with fossils it could be problematic what do you guys think?

I think attacking when it has decay is counterintuitive. While I'll admit I don't know much about the class it's from, if you're using it to trade it's legitimately a 1 damage improvement on Gladiator's Longbow and that never saw play. Paying 15 health to attack 2 minions and Time Out... feels really weak. I'd almost say that 5 mana, no attack makes more sense, or at least lower damage to 12.

    Quote from RiftofDawn >>

    Initital thought. Thoughts?

The first feels more right with a 7 durability, the other is seven turns of possible buffs. I think four possible swings makes sense with the similarity to Light's Sorrow.

I'm hoping to get some reviews out soon, for now here are my ideas.

Yup, I spelled nuclear wrong. Here's my logic...

    - The Nucular Boar can function the same (but slightly slower effect) as Voodoo Doll in Mage. In other classes it's a "you have one turn to figure this out and trade" card.

    - Quarantine basically gives attacking immunity in exchange for dying slowly.

    - This is more for funsies. It's Ironbark Protector but it won;t attack and it doesn't last forever.

As per usual I only do the page I'm on, cause even that takes awhile. It's in reverse order because that's just how I'm scrollin'.

@Twistertiger I like the final Revenant, and I think you can order the reborn and Deathrattle like that fine.

@Danjo The flavor's there, but it's not worth the cost and it's using a Druid keyword. At the moment, I'd say you wouldn't want a specific destroy effect for anything more than 5 mana, and even then it doesn't matter with rush because it's already gotten it's value. With a self-damage effect, I feel like this current concept could be 6 mana. As for the Hand Grenade, smack all those keywords together with commas. I think the twinspell/echo thing just gives you too much boardclear for a non-boardclear class.

@Adamaxes See I like the flavor here given the idea of Rastakhan. The issue is there's no real downside, so it's far too consistent (That's more of a facet of it being start of game). I'd recommend instead of start of game, that this card is drawn when an overkill minion actually overkills something.

@Klipce Unfortunately it's gotta be official keywords. If you want a flavor that's similar, try the Three-headed Knight.

@Wailor First off, gotta love Paladin cards. Mrgl is good, I think it works correctly. We knocked out tokens because tokens are janky. Pyramid Protector could probably be 3 mana (And doesn't need periods). Yuk'tan may even be able to reach 3/6.

@Hereharehere Looks very solid, I appreciate the triple keyword memes. I think it could even reach 3/4, because nothing jumps out to me as a broken combo.

@Mugen8 Unfortunately the first one hits 4 keywords, though I love the flavor. Given previous examples you don't have to specify that it doesn't get added to your hand. I'd say it'd be best to crank the cost and stats down to like 2-3 mana.

@CoinPlant This looks real solid, I'd almost say that you could swap it to a deathrattle, though that's a personal choice, both have benefits.

@CovetousJ Not Dead Yet! Looks great. The rabbit reminds me a lot of Colossus of the Moon. Keeper of the Bridge... does... nothing? I think it would make more sense if it interacted with your quest. Currently there are no discovers that can't discover more than 2 cards with it's generic pool.

@Shatterstar These are absolutely excellent. I think they're both solid cards, but you'll need to reword the combo, right now it isn't clear if this card or the generated cards cost less.

@Deravcc Apothecary's fang seems fairly balanced, but I can't shake the fear it's a bit too much value. Kel'thuzad seems balanced, but still too weak. The dragon should have baseline 1 attack.

All around good cards, and a lot of solid flavor cards! Keep it up y'all

Tried my hand at a minion, weapon and spell. Reviews coming next.

I wanted to mess around with underutilized concepts, hence Secretly, for 1 turn, and interactions with Quests/Sidequests.

I think the big problem when trying to make the competition faster is not the amount of cards to make each phase but rather the fact that making a whole consistant set to restricts design opportunities which leads to "pack filler" design and creative burnout. Any contestant can probably make 7 or 8 interesting cards based on one concept, be it a class identity or a set mechanic, but then the last few cards are gonna be rushed, less interesting or out of place. I see two ways around this but there probably are other solutions.

My first idea is to ask for cards from different sets during each phase. I elaborated on this earlier but basically make 2 or 3 cards from 4 or 5 sets each phase if it's a class competition and for an expension make 10 to 15 cards around a mecanic each phase. Phases should be 7 to 10 days long.

If you want to go beyond a 15 cards/10 days, my solution would be to give the opportunity (if not the obligation) to compete as a group. I would do this with a twist tho : Phase 1 would be a "form a group" phase to let contenders pitch their ideas and find partners. If it's a class comp, everyone gets to post up to 3 hero powers, up to 3 keywords, up to 3 unique mecanics and up to 15 exemple cards. Flavor would be loose this round but it could be reworked latter. Then, people can contact each other to form a team of 2 or 3 for the rest of the competition. Teams can include people who posted or newcomers who liked the poster's concepts. On phase 2, teams would have to settle on a hero power and a keyword from one of the posts among the team (minor tweaks might be allowed), decide on a clear class identity and make to whole basic set. You could even go as far as including the classic set to but that might overwhelm those who didn't team up. After that, you can either do one, two or even three sets each phase. With this model, you can get the whole of standard done in 4 phases. If it's an expansion comp, you do pretty much the same except the first post will feature up to 3 keywords, up to 3 "one per class" cycles (i.e. spellstones, forbidden spells etc...), up to 3 unique legendary patern (i.e. legendary spells, legendary weapons, quests etc...) with up to 15 exemple cards. After the team-ups you can make 3 or 4 phases that will showcase one third/one fourth of the expension, maybe do a phase about single player content or maybe do a separate competition for that.

I know teaming up can seem like it will give certain contenders an unfair advantage but bringing several perpectives together is in my oppinion the only way to archieve a card/phase ratio that allows for a short yet complete competition.

The big thing we come up against time wise is the community backlash; People used to regularly badmouth us for having the contest run long, and usually it wasn't people competing. As such, we're trying to look at both ends of the scale (I've stayed up really late getting cards done before and McF's Sea Witch concept was literally made in the five hours before the first wave ended) but we have to be aware that there are some... vocal opponents, whether or not we fully understand why they feel the way they do.

I suppose if I made Holy Hand Grenade it would be a little too on the nose? Perhaps I'll make Brave Brave Sir Robin lol. Just jokes.

Man good luck, I spent awhile trying to find the art for a hand grenade for the frontpage icon.
