Self-Discard is an archetype they’re pushing and it fits into that neatly.
Throughout the history of Hearthstone, Blizzard has promoted many terrible, unplayable archetypes, so that's a poor way to prove anything. So far, self burning Warlock is sitting on 45% win rate, while normal control Warlock is close to 60%. Obviously it's too early to form final conclusions, but the numbers don't lie.

We seem to have different views of what ‘unplayable’ means, I would consider it as a card that basically has no value in any deck outside of being added as a meme, like Goldshire Footman, Boulderfist Ogre or Magma Rager. I wouldn’t consider cards that fit into off meta-decks as ‘unplayable’.

Indeed. "Meme deck" or "Off meta deck" is just a more sophisticated name for bad deck and I have no pleasure in playing bad decks. For me, they are waste of time.

Tickatus being restricted to 1 archetype instead of every Warlock deck outside of Zoo for the next year is fine. The card would have it’s place.
The card is fine, maybe reduce from 5 to 4 cards, but its way better than having no answers to control priest and warrior. Tickatus is the equalizer.
The thing is, that people are just upset, that it burns their win condition in "slow" decks. Which is their Cthun for priest, Ilganoth for DH, clowns/survival for Druid, Alex/Zephrys for highlander, Rattlegore for warrior etc.
Generally if you know your opponent has Tickatus, you need to create and keep pressure. If you are afking, you cant complain, that your opponent is using their win condition to win the game lol.
You need to punish warlock for playing Tickatus - he doesnt have taunt, doesnt have rush. If you can get Warlock at around 15-20 HP (which is fairly easy) and keep some board presence (5-10 damage), if they play it, they are in threath they will die next turn or the turn after.
If they get it super early (turn 3 draw it, turn 4 coin corrupt, turn 5 play it), they probably won. But the same can be said about Druid (turn 2 ramp, turn 3 ramp to 6 mana, turn 4 ramp to 9 mana, turn 5 survival of fittest, turn 6 board of 8/8s or duel paladin turn 4 coin drop 10drop with taunt and deathrattle.
That is just the biggest bs in this entire thread. First of all not all people like to play aggressive decks and some classes just can't play an aggressive style. On another side, Tickatus needs no fucking setup whatsoever. You just put it in your Control Style deck and when he's corrupted, you play it (you don't even need Y'Shaarj). It's just so easy with such a reward. It's not even so hard for Warlock to get to this point, with all the removal and heals the class has now.
Everbody talking about how Combo should beat Control, like in the old days. That's my opinion too. But in the old times, you could've done something about it (like Disruption, Mill, Rat whatever). At the moment, you have absolutely no counterplay, if you play a slower deck.
Everytime there’s a card that hard counters control , people start with drama, so predictable…
It happened before with Jade Idol, Crystal Core, Shudderwock, Open the Waygate, Kingsbane, and now Tickatus… What all the decks that ran these cards had in common: They were not op at all if you analized winrate. Yet they were still nerfed
Truth is: Control Players are spoiled brats. They want the ability to deal with aggro easily, and that is fine and balanced for them, but if another type of strategy that counters their slow style rise in popularity , even if not op across the board, they will demand nerfs . And Blizzard usually drops the hammer, lol
Why don’t you grow a pair and learn to deal with bad matchups like every other archetype do? Tickatus is fine and it`s existence discourage decks that run 25 removal spells, aka ResidentSleeper decks.
Funny that, Tickatus decks are the epitome of running 25 removal spells. Tickatus is a counter that makes the decks around it precisely the thing it's "supposed to counter". it's not "another type of strategy", like the difference in strategy between a control deck and a combo deck. it's just a one-of easy win condition for warlock control.
If it's an easy win condition then why does the card have a 50.1% winrate
Because the deck was bad. Control/Gala Warlock was a mediocre deck and if you play Tickatus and you die the next turn, it obviously has a bad winrate. Warlock got new tools, the deck is now way better that before barrens.
But in the old times, you could've done something about it (like Disruption, Mill, Rat whatever). At the moment, you have absolutely no counterplay, if you play a slower deck.
Why do people complain about this card? It's so fun and interactive gameplay to play against removal spells until 2x tickatus burns your whole deck. I mean comon, are you saying you are not going to enjoy this for the next couple of years until it rotates?
This card is continually ruining my hearthstone experience. I was excited to play the new expansion but I’m already hitting a wall against it in ladder while trying out new decks. Deck destruction in a game with only 30 cards in a deck, particularly when it can reliably delete 1/3 to 1/2 of my entire deck, makes me not want to craft new control decks knowing that anything I come up with will be dismantled by this cheap uncountable mechanic. For the people using its 50/50 win rate as a counter argument: it’s not that’s it’s OP, it’s that it sucks the fun out of game for a large percentage of players who don’t want to play faster face decks.
As much as I hate the effect (3 cards would feel MUCH better) the worst thing about Tickatus is the cost and stats. A 6 cost 8/8 with that effect is just way too much, especially when he can be replayed twice (at least) and re-summoned by their prime. This card should cost 7 so it can not be activated by Soulciologist or Strongman, or it should be a 5/5. At the VERY least remove the demon tag so you only have to see it twice and its not getting re-summoned by primes on top of it.
On a side note Tamsin Roame is a bit bullshit too, as if Warlocks don't have enough clears now they get free copies of Soul Shear, School Spirits , Hysteria etc.. While it would be a fine card on its own... when they are discarding a third of your deck the board clears they have at their disposal is just unparalleled and uneven compared to all other classes. This card makes them even better at dealing with aggro which should be their big weakness for greedy tickatus decks.

It cannot "reliably delete" 1/3 to 1/2 of your deck.
I've only had a double Tickatus drop in about 10% of games I've played against it, and I've seen triple Tickatus once, when I was at 7 cards left in deck so it didn't matter.
And I don't play any aggro decks.
Hell, I never really see Tickatus to begin with, lock isnt that popular anyway, and the most played decks only ran him as a one-of if that. It's not far enough into the new xpac to know what the current decks are playing him at, but it tentatively looks like 1 + Yshaarj, but with four other Corrupt cards in the deck I really doubt any smart players are gonna waste Yshaarj just to drop a single Ticky

How do you know? We're 2 days into the xpac, we have no idea what the actual winrate is.
I had a 70+ winrate with Prime Lock up to Diamond last patch, so it can't have been that bad.
When I play my control decks, which i do the most, I realize it's almost guaranteed to lose against a decent Tickatus build. But I also know they will auto lose against many other decks so... Up to people what kind of deck they will play, just hope Tickatus players realizes the card and strat can only get them that far, and only in very skilled hands, to the top.
Control lock is crushing all other slow decks. Tickatus and Jaraxxus are too much to deal with. I don’t know what they were thinking with jaraxxus. A 2 mana 6/6 every turn is busted without some sort of drawback.
It's very simple, yet some people seem to be too dumb to get it:
Tickatus Warlock is basically lesser version of COMBO deck, though much weaker than average, because despite doing its thing twice (which is very slow and inconsistent), it still might lose the game.
It beats many control decks (but not all of them) as combo deck usually should do in HS.
It loses to most aggro decks (again, not all of them) as combo deck usually should do in HS.
Warlock is pretty much only class in the game without viable card genration. Other control-ish decks, from Priest, Mage, Shaman, Warrior or even Rogue, can produce TONS of additional value (up to 30-40 bonus cards in single match!), while Warlock has to relay on 30 cards and Jaraxxus as the finisher in very late game. No mana cheating, no shenanigans, just playing card after card in old fashioned way... It's easy to see that this gives him almost no chance in the value race with most control decks, so his only chance of success is to take away his opponent's value, to make it more even.
I don't see how Ticklock being combo or control has any bearing on the argument? It's purely semantics, going by your definition and calling it combo doesn't change anything. Combo decks shouldn't be going off consistently by turn 8. This was a big issue with Demon Hunter and Mage during the last expansion, and along with hyper aggro was the major reason proper control decks barely existed - they got rinsed by everything. Tickatus is just one issue with the game, but he's probably the most visible and the easiest to point out for control players, hence the hate.
Card generation, since you mention it, is another issue, along with the insanely cheap card draw. These things also need fixing, they shouldn't be used as a reason to support Tickatus.
The thing is Blizzard don't want a well balanced and functioning card game, they want hyper fast decks, wacky swing turns and crazy RNG.

Combo always beats controls, because this is how this game works (it always was designed and balanced this way). Tickatus Warlock is COMBO deck, so it HAS TO beat control decks (this is its sole purpose) and crying about it is pointless and stupid. That's the argument.
Combo decks shouldn't be going off consistently by turn 8.
And it's certainly not. I've played at least 100 games with this deck already (in this and previous meta) and managed to use Tickatus at all in maybe 30-40% of them. Saying that you can play it "consistently by turn 8" is ignorant and childish bias. Do you want to know how many times I've done this myself over the course of about 100 games? TWICE!
How many games have you played with this deck? Let me guess, not even one? Otherwise, you would know what the reality looks like.

- If you play it : good;
- If you play against it : bad;
- Seriously ? : screw the retarded dev that created such a card;
- Seriously for real ? : screw us for playing such a retarded game.

Play Far Watch Post. Yes, it's random, but so is Dirty Rat or Gnomeferatu. If you manage to hit Tickatus himself or his supporting cards like Soulciologist Malicia, it will be much harder for him to pull of the combo.

Play something else then . Or accept that all match ups are not good.
