We as Hearthstone players should just come to the acceptance that Priest will always be a bad class on ladder at least when it comes to Standard. Similarly, Warrior will always have multiple archetypes to choose from. And this is mainly because of how each classes' Basic and Classic sets are made.
Since these sets ultimately remain in the Standard set forever, they get to decide the overall viability of a class in the long run. Sure, in the next few adventures and expansions they'll give Priest the Shaman treatment of 4 Mana 7/7s, but that'll pass too. The sets will rotate out and Priest will come back to being the underdog. Due to the awful construction of both the Classic and Basic sets of Priest, the class will always struggle on ladder, even when it has an average set of cards to choose from, from the expansions. Largely, these two sets are terrible for Priest. Many cards are pure gimmicks and don't work in an actual deck. They don't have stuff like Brawl embedded in the class, which means that if they don't have a strong removal given to them in each rotation, they'll suck as a Control class, and it's not like there's much else this class knows how to do well. There's absolutely useless cards like Divine Spirit, Inner Fire, Mindgames, Lightwell, Lightspawn, Mass Dispel, Shadowform (give up guys, there's been no real support for this card since ever. What little Inspire deck that saw rise will be gone once the sets shift), Holy Fire, Mind Vision and Prophet Velen and many others that take up slots for useful Priest cards. And the thing is Priest is stuck with these forever.
Now, let's look at Warrior, quite possibly the best class in the game right now. Not only does it have a multitude of archetypes, they're all insanely good and viable. This class lacked Aggro and was pretty much the "Control" class along with Priest a couple of sets ago, but not only has it beaten Priest at handling Aggro, it has also beaten Priest at being Aggro! With decks like Pirate/Tempo and Dragon Warrior, there's Mid-range and Aggro oriented decks other than Patron. Warriors are good, and they'll remain to be good. They have one of the best Basic and Classic sets, with the only bad cards being Warsong Commander (Classic Blizz Nerf), Cleave and Upgrade!. Yeah, that's it, every other card in some way contributes to its plethora of archetypes. Regardless of how good or bad the sets are for Warrior, it will stay afloat. As long as this class doesn't get ten 10 Mana 0/0 cards, this class will remain good.
My question is, how is Priest supposed to survive in a biased rotation system like this? Not just Priest, how are classes like Shaman and Hunter supposed to be good. Unless they get 4 Mana 7/7s each time, or 8 Mana cards that give them 12 Mana worth of value each time, they'll be low-tier classes. They should have re-done the entire Basic and Classic sets for all the classes when Standard started, and if not all, at least for Priest, Hunter and Shaman, to make it so there's not a need to give these classes overpowered cards just to have a place in the meta for them. All in all, enjoy your treat this time round Priests, but know that it won't last long. And before you know it, you'll be back to the Tier 3 Meta you've known so well.
Well 100% true. Priest used to be my favorite class. Now I don't like most of the trends. What I see is that we're getting to a meta where there's no midrangie play style. You either play super aggro 4-77, super tempo or... super controlish like Cathun Warrior.. there less combo play, less mind games. Play 1-2-3 on 1 side and kill those 1-2-3 on the other side. As stupid as this
Always is a strong word. eventually the day will come when priest will get back Lightbomb level stong cards. As for warrior, its basic class cards are so broke that it can't not be good.

Yep, I definitely agree. The classic set for some classes are definitely better than others, simple as that. Do I think Blizzard will address this situation? Probably not.

That's the point, though. Even if it gets Lightbomb-level cards, eventually, they'll just rotate out. So, they need to give this class op cards each time to ensure it doesn't sink, which hints at a class that is generally weak or flawed.

Ahh Lightbomb. If it became part of the evergreen set I would be sooo happy.
Agithore's point isn't exactly "Priest will never be good". It will if Blizzard makes good Priest cards. However, because those are not in the Classic set, eventually it'll rotate out, and Priest's fate will be up in the air again. Compare it to Warrior, who will always have access to Execute, to Shield Slam, to Brawl, to Fiery Win Axe.
Balancing the game until the point all the 9 nine classes are playable at the same level of power and at the sametime is not a high priority in Blizzard. Ask any World of Warcraft player if something similar happens there too.
I stopped reading before the third paragraph. You decided to make a claim like this, then instantly contradict yourself. You said that Priest will never be good, then say that Blizzard will give Priest an amazing card that, when it rotates out, will cause Priest to go back to being an underdog. That heavily implies that in that year Priest will be amazing.
If you're going to make a post like this, be sure not to contradict yourself. That's not to say that I disagree with you, Priest doesn't have very good Basic and Classic cards, whereas Warrior has very good Basic and Classic cards.

But as soon as that card rotates back out of standard priest will suck again. If they don't make any changes to priests evergreen set they are dooming themselves to either having to fix priest every set or priest sucking forever.
Well druid used to have a strong classic set, blizz took care of that. They said they will address the evergreen set every year (when rotation happens), so warrior is probably one they may play close attention to. Warrior has had a top deck like always in the history of the game. With the druid nerfs it probably has the most powerful evergreen class cards of any.
Priest has some staples in its classic set, but so much useless stuff as well.
All Blizzard needs to do is be imaginative and daring. Sadly, I doubt they will be either. There have been plenty of fan-made cards designed in this site that could truly help. Ultimately I think that Priest needs to return to the one mechanism that other classes feared the most. Not healing minions, not damaging minions by converting healing into hurting, not copying cards from the opponent's hand, deck or battlefield. And certainly not gimmicky cards such as Confessor Paletress or Herald Volazj.
Priest is a bad class in general because of three main reasons:
- doesn't have a decent card that deals single target damage. This is IMO what makes priests bad over everything else. Every class has at least one good cheap single target burn spell and holy smite is a joke for 2damage and holy fire wayy too expensive when shamans have the same damage for half the cost.
- everything is in the style of combos or has too much requirements, thus it is unreliable. CoH + AS, pyro + spells, cleric + healing minions, shadow words, madness, etc.
- to heal you need to first be damaged. And although hero power starts to be op in the late game where you can trade and heal minions back, it is useless for the first five turns of every match, except you draw nothing as usual bc you are concede priest and heal face.
Priest is in a terrific spot, you guys are just bad Priest players.
I'm pretty sure I heard a bunch of people talking about how even the Priest mains who reach legend every month are having a really hard time of it. So would that mean they're also bad Priest players?
Also, would you mind telling us what amazing Priest deck we can use to get easy Legend? Or maybe you can tell us what just about every Priest player is doing horribly wrong?

If you got the coin, the Mercenaries get going. Vote for The Mercenary for CCC #3.

It seems like you can tell the future of Hearthstone 5-10 years from now.
Did you know about the domination by Combo Druid, Secret Paladins and Patron/Tempo/Dragon/OTK/C'Thun Warrior without telling us?

I think, Blizzard needs to swap some cards between GvG and Classic Set.
Lightbomb, Velen's Chosen and Vol'jin should be in Classic Set. Mindgames, Temple Enforcer and Prophet Velen should be in GvG.

STEALING MINIONS.
It helps build tempo, and is reactive rather than defensive or placid. More cards in the vein of Shadow Madness, Cabal Shadow Priest and Mind Control. Or even neutral cards such as Mind Control Tech and Sylvanas Windrunner.
