I've been tinkering around with this homebrew deck for a while now and have been having success with this set up. I've not encountered many other prince quests so wanted to see if anyone else plays a similar deck and some tips for pushing to legend with it. Highest I've gotten so far is D6 then pushed back facing an onslaught of Ghuu priests. There's not much you can do with this deck if you face wonky wild combo garbage but overall it's pretty solid, gets quest out fast and puts out pressure from then on.
Ideally you want it done by turn 4 so you can play the reward at 5, but that's very hard to achieve (1 mana for the quest, then turns 2+3+4 = 9 mana worth of 1 cost cards). Unless I did the math wrong.
It will be harder to play 9 different cards with so many pairs. Note that the quest says "different 1 cost cards".
I regularly get the quest out by turn 4 to play on turn 5 but that involves drawing some of your generated spells like first day of school, crystology which progress the quest quest line one step each.
For muligan if you can get these or cards like sous chef they each progress the quest quickly you just need to play the duplicates i.e X2 silver hand knights at stages 2/3 then again when quest resets to 1/3 to avoid it not counting on the same quest line, as often you'll have x2of the same card in your hand but it's pretty easy to avoid playing duplicates on same quest reward track
I've just got to D5 with this and feel it can make it to legend but I only play 2-4 games per day due to having a new born so depends if I can get lucky match ups and avoid the plague that is priests.
They will allow you to free some room for Buffet Biggun , Balloon Merchant, these cards are very strong (perhaps more powerful than the summon recruit ones), as you will have the hero power for recruits anyways, Biggun also gives a couple.
D4 / D3 is pretty much where the ladder begins TBH. You don't get win streak bonuses anymore, and the opponents become all top tier net decks. It usually takes me more time to complete these last 3 ranks than the rest of the ladder due to the amount of big priests (30% of opponents or so).
Big congrats on your newborn btw, we're also working on that but both being around 40 it is proving a bigger challenge than getting legend :D I sure don't mind trying lol.
I bought a couch for my girlfriend so she can watch Netflix while I play. Our two dogs lie at our feet in the meantime :D Working 9 to 6, it is the only way to get some playing done for me, as I have to try and squeeze some biking before dinner too.
I've tried a few different cards myself but don't believe the higher cost cards like balloon, biggun are worth it in this particular deck. The biggest issue I find is drawing your higher cost cards such as these early in the game as you want all the 1 drop generating more 1 drops to complete the quest. Once you have done this you just become a very hard to beat deck and want to find cards like Lothraxxion/bridge/quartermaster/warhorse trainer etc.
I'm currently at D2 rank 2 having had a good run of avoiding Ghuu Priests. I agree it's a bit of a slog to hit legend and don't nearly have time to grind for it these days. I've only been legend on wild once before with an old paladin deck. Hit it on standard about 5-10 times over the years. First time was the last day of the older legend system just before the Ashes of Outland and the newer rank so quite pleased with that.
Notable facts I've found playing around with this deck is that you can stack the quest reward multiple times. It's fun when you get your quest reward ice trapped, pyschic screamed/sapped back and play it again. I've played it 3 times in one game and was pumping out 7/7 guys!
Also beware of playing the change hero power to murloc 1/1 silver hands as the upgrade the hero power and reward doesn't work. You often get it from First day of school!

My comments refer mostly to the wild format.

I see where you're coming from and I could understand, if there weren't any other options.
Here's a few that work well for me: Never Surrender!, Righteous Cause, Avenge, Animated Broomstick is particularly useful, Bloodsail Corsair works well against big Priest, Ivus, the Forest Lord is still useful even when drawn later on from a Crystology (it'll knock a blood of ghun), Tour Guide is ok in the early game and it gets better as you progress the quest.
