I've been HS 'serious' ladder starting around February, and made d5 finally last month, and this month just the day before SA hit, and that was the easy part. Took me a while to figure out what I can and can't play with the SA cards I have ("shockingly" I didn't get the very best legendary), because crafting pally/warrior/mage/priest would cost me 4.8k or more dust and I'm holding from crafting due probable nerfs.
I've been playing mainly shaman, rogue, and hunter, I've had too many e.g. +7s (like a 10-3), just to drop back to d5, a few times down to no stars. Last few days I'm 2-2'ing or 3-3'ing nonstop, swinging endlessly between d3 and d4. I'm trying to just play the best game I can 'Now' not caring about rank, but I can't shake it. I ain't salty, and though a bit pissed at times, I'm just tired of not being able to make it.
If you just wanna "get the job done", I suggest you play a fast aggro deck with good win rates (aggro rouge / face hunter). That way you either win or lose by turn 5-8. This is probably the fastest way to grind your way to legend.
My advice is to keep a close eye on your own mood. As soon as you start going on a loss streak and are starting to feel annoyed or desperate, stop. If you're just playing a casual session, stop altogether, if you're trying to grind up some ranks take a ten minute break, watch something on YouTube or something, anything to take your mind off HS for a short while. Don't convince yourself that if you play one more game you'll stop your loss streak: You're probably a lot more on tilt than you realize, and it's causing you to play way worse than you usually would. As soon as you notice yourself sliding into even a little bit of a sub-optimal mental state give yourself a bit to refresh and get back to your best. It's a lot more beneficial to your rank to spend ten minutes refreshing yourself than to spend them losing another game and tilting even further. For me it usually takes three or four losses in a row to get me to the point I need to take a breather - find what that number is for you.
1. Just keep playing. Easier said than done as it can be VERY frustrating, but try to keep an even head about the grind and if you get frustrated at all, stop playing for a bit and then go back.
2. Make sure you aren't making mistakes. Go back to the games you are losing (sometimes even the games you win) and see if you held the wrong mulligan, made any misplays, made a GREAT play that you should remember to do again, etc...
3. Shaman sucks, so play either aggro Hunter or aggro Rogue. Those would be your best bets. But I'd recommend sticking with 1 deck the whole way. You learn little tricks to give you an edge in certain matchups the more you play them.
The same happened to me too. A few months ago I decided to finally climb to legend and was grinding the game with Highlander Mage till I got to D1. But then, as always it seems like, I was hit with a wave of either unlucky or just really bad matchups and dropped to D4. I got frustrated and didn't play ladder for 2 months, only playing battlegrounds. I'm planning to climb again next month tho, probably after a nerf hammer hits so I can safely craft a viable deck without worrying it might get nerfed. I just wanted to share my experience lol but anyway, good luck on ladder!
At OP the meta is in a very poor state ATM. While DH received nerfs balance isn't really a thing.
Hi roll druids, RNG mages and priests and then face hunter, rogue and arguably pali - looking at you first day of school.
If all you facing are hunters play the counter. I went control bomber warrior in the end and Teched in 2 owls. Had above 90% we against rogues and hunters, the owls kept paladin in check l, and the bombs steam rolled mages. Priest was by and far the worst match when RNG hit me like a truck, but there are really few priests I personally ran into.
Easily hit legend after making the change.
That said the meta right now is a salt one, it doesn't feel good losing to stupid or like wise winning because of stupid. And the amount it happens is higher than its ever been. T5 is definitely catering to the lowest form to maintain player base at this point. Which is bad for the game.
I reached legend once during boomsday. All I had to do was to leave my pride behind. I played priest as always and was able to reach rank 3 but always bumped back to rank 5. I met an opponent wo befriended me afterwards and we shared decks. He liked mine and I liked his one. Even though I totally hate hunter. Well I decided to give it a try and crafted the deck for a class I didn’t really like that much. I am happy that I got to legend but I always have the little pity that i couldn’t do it with priest because it’s my favorite class. But the deck was pretty fun. It was a recruit hunter with katrena and so on and it raped all the druids in this bracket.
long story short: of you want the easy way craft the meta deck or the meta counter deck. It’s really that much more easy.
I lost my promotion match to Legend 5(!) times before falling back all the way to D3. I crafted the Libram Pally Deck, went almost undefeated and hit Legend for the first time. Games were crazy fast, deck is autopilot.
Pick a fast deck like aggro hunter, rogue or pally and learn how to mulligan based on the matchup. A good mulligan is extremely important imho.
