I really like to create deck and test, specially midrange or control. I don't know for you, but I have the real feeling except some niche cards like Mossy Horror and Geist. The cards turn 6 and 7 are really bad and don t fit well for control. (It's also true for some class cards.)
In fact, except legendary this turns was generally very poor in alternative.
Why don't we see some silent turn 6 with nice body for exemple. And between 7 mana cost and 8 mana cost, I find there is a huge gap of power.
Do you get the same feeling? What would you suggest?
Control decks don't really play threat minions on turn 6-7, and haven't in a long time. They rather play AOE, stall or mass removal. The reason is power creep: turn 7 os where you set up having 2x Voidlord or play Psychic Scream or Spreading Plague. A very solid minion like Cairne Bloodhoof just doesn't cut it anymore.
Tempo decks is another issue, 7-mana Bonemare was a fantastic midrange/tempo card, slightly too situational for control. I guess that card along with the Spiteful SummonerDr. Boom made them reluctant to make more curve plays for turn 6-7.
It wasnt always like that, there were times when 6-cost slot was actually the most contested one with how many good cards (for that time) there were and you didnt want to oversaturate that :) But those days r long gone, that is true. That being said, i think it is actually a good thing, that not all mana costs have super strong and must-include neutral cards, leaves some space to have these as class cards and to try and differentiate the decks at least a little bit.
It tends to depend on the meta for the most part. And as Slyder has pointed out. control decks nowadays just want to board wipe a lot, which just happens to not be in the 6 mana faculty (xcept cards such as Blizzard, Meteor and Dragonfire Potion if you want to mention wild).
In the end, it's mostly dependant on current rotations and meta. Though I'll give you the credit that decks that use 6 mana cards tend to have very few of them. I think it's better (for control) to have low cost clears and then highly impactful high cost cards, which just tend to pop up starting at 8 mana, as that's a good cost to make big effects fair.

Lord Godfrey, Deathstalker Rexxar, Malfurion the Pestilent, Dr. Boom, Mad Genius and others make sure slower decks have something to do, though...

well there are and have been plenty of good 6 mana cards Savannah Highmane, Deathstalker Rexxar Pre-nerf Spiteful Summoner and even Sylvannas Windrunner was uncontested b4 it went to wild.
