Your card must have a significant detriment/drawback that compensates for its good stats or strong effect.
The "detriment" cannot just be poor stats or a high mana cost.
We have whittled down ~ 80 valid submissions to just 8of the community's favorites. Check out all the finalists below and vote in our poll (vote for as many or as few as you like) to help decide the winner and be sure to check back after the poll finishes for the announcement of the winner and the start of a new theme!
A week or 2 ago, no one from page 1 made it, not even the one with the most votes in the entire thread. The current system for choosing finalists eliminates page 1 bias, but it definitely has other issues
Well, almost everyone was tied at six votes there. Too many good cards ruin the stew chances of getting finalist. The one wildcarded submission happened to make top eight.
If Annihilate wins I'm going to feel sheepish because that was my #2 card (Backlash) that I passed on for Suicide Squad. I had made a similar version of it months ago. I feel like the 15 damage is actually riskier, so probably a better design than mine.
Loving all these rare cards. To explain with "Climb on Back" I based the downside to be significant at the mana cost, since a free 3/2 is really good in the early game.
My only issue with Suicide Squad is that Wrathguard is a TGT card, and this one is supposedly from the Witchwood. Having a Wild card in standard seems really weird.
Yes, I know, Toki, Time-Tinker adds cards from "the past" to your hand, but it's a legendary. It's a unique effect. Then only other case of a regular card referencing a Wild card was Ball of Spiders, but that was before set rotations were announced.

Wow, nice! I had a version originally that was only 8 damage, but the downside didn't feel that strong. If I hadn't posted Annihilate, you should've posted that, especially because, in my opinion, Suicide Squad technically doesn't have a downside - it's just inherent card value. The cards it gives you all have downsides, but the card itself is just value.
Does Suicide Squad even follow the rules? It doesn’t actually do anything bad when you play it, and it synergizes decently with Skull of the Man’ari if you run out of demons in your hand.
CG to the finalists, these r actually pretty decent. Im glad none of the overstated minions for 1-3 mana made it and the one 3-cost that did is actually pretty good, so ... me likey :)

You can find me here! Good luck everyone!
Hey, happy to see some of my favorites on here! Also happy to see my own, but I like a lot of these! Good luck to all!
Congrats to all finalists! Pretty small pool this time; I guess most people had as much trouble coming up with a drawback as I did
My Entry for this week's Card Design Competition - Season 8.16:

Then did.
Then fired myself.
Then did again.
If this is advertised on the front page, Suicide Squad is going to win by a landslide.
EDIT: It will win anyway, but maybe not by a landslide if it's not advertised.
Custom cards :
CLASSES : Alchemist (CCC#5 | Phase V) | Chef (CCC#4)
EXPANSIONS : Year of the Scorpion (Year Comp)
Fun Fact: the art for Broken Bow depicts Nephi, from the Book of Mormon

Voted for Annihilate, Suicide Squad and Chew. Would be happy to see any of those three in the real game
Definitely suicide squad. It’s just so fun, and the name link makes it hilarious. Could also see it working (in wild) with Violet Illusionist

I voted for: Broken Bow, Threatening roar.
Here's reviews for ones I didn't choose:
Annihilate: Don't see how this is playable except in rare circumstances
Suicide Squad: This card has no penalty. It gives you cards that you can choose to play that have penalties.
Chew: This card also has no penalty. Sometimes it doesn't work. That's not a penalty IMO.
Climb on Back: I really like the theme, but in Hunter this seems too good (imagining a turn 1 4/5 mole with coin).
Renegade Medic: Perhaps useful in control, but I think there's better uses for the 3-slot on most control decks.
Crash Lighting: This was borderline for me, but I think it's a little too powerful with totems. Maybe if it also overloaded 1.
Will we get some honest cards?
