Ok so the other day when I saw the MLG top 3 decklists I saw an interesting warlock control list by Jaden which caught my eye. The reason it caught my eye is because I have been messing around with my lock control deck for about a month now and its like the decks could be brothers from another mother! Ok enough of my rambling...
Ok there ya go. This deck is so damn fun to play I cant even tell ya in words. I have been working on this deck for quite a while now because I really hate following the "norm" when it comes to games. I refuse to play warlock aggro but yet still love the class and wanted to make something else work and be successful even at the higher ranks. This deck does just that. So many synergies and "combos" with all the cards in this deck, plus not to mention that it is one of the few decks besides that warrior OTK list that doesnt mind taking damage. In a world full of aggro decks, you are gonna take damage, might as well use it to your advantage!
Ill go over some of the card choices like usual and a couple strats...
Lord Jaraxxus is just fun. Yes he can be considered a "win more" card, but this deck tends to get a lot more value from him than just any old lock deck with jarax tossed in. You generally are going to be sitting at low life around turn 8-10 which is when you are gonna be setting up your play with him, but the cool thing is, with the amount of board clear/creature removal this deck has, you generally will be in a very strong board position with at least 1-2 big taunters on board when you play this guy. Once you do, game is pretty much over. I have only lost one time when I have had board control and played Jaraxxus.... ill let you guess to what... Mage, BINGO! Its gonna happen, I just smiled and moved on to the next game (stupid pyroblast... blah blah..)
Molten Giant, those guys just do work, and a lot of it. There are no fancy 1 turn kills with them, or some other crazy combo, but they are a massive 8/8 that comes down very cheaply almost every game, and love to be huddled up around a Defender of Argus. Whether being a massive taunter, or just a big beat stick, most of your wins will come from these guys.
I really actually like the Ancient Watcher engine. I used to not be a fan at all, then I started playing with it more and more and I have become a huge supporter. Obviously you will want to slam down a Defender of Argus or a Sunfury Protector on them which is kind of the point, but the 1 of Spellbreaker can sure come down and turn him into a Chillwind Yetisuper quick if need be. (I dont suggest doing this against certain classes like paladins or druids, and unless you have already dealt with their sylvannas, you are gonna need that silence later)
All the other cards are just pure value and your typical "good" cards. Yes I run 2 Shadowflame, and I would run a 3rd if I could, card is amazing.
Anyways, try it out, tell me what you guys think. This is the perfect starting point if you love playing the warlock class but are not a fan of playing the roll face aggro lists that are out there. This deck has a very high win rate against aggro lock, aggro mage and druids which is most of the meta game right now (playing consistently rank 4 and under). Please leave feedback and I would love to hear yalls ideas about the list and hopefully make it better. Enjoy!
Looks similar to the one I use, so I suppose it can work fine. The only thing I wanted to say is, as another Shadowflame fan I am, don't you like having at least one Power Overwhelming? For just 1 mana you can boost that explosions like mad. Dunno, that combo has won me many games, but maybe it just depends on the match (telling this cause I would replace at least 1 Mortal Coil for 1 Power Overwhelming).
Yeah honestly its a great idea. I dont normally have an issue with having a creature with not enough attack on board to be able to clear the opposing side, but I do really like the idea. It basically just gives you an out to one more situation that can be avoided. Ill be sure to give it a shot, thanks for the input!
Ok so I totally just switched 1 power overwhelming for 1 mortal coil and it just won me the game! Obviously going to test it more, but really do like the switch, thanks VicVii.
You're welcome! I just thought it could be better than another Mortal Coil cause you can use Power Overwhelming for that combo or as a finisher too. If you can use that with Harvest Golems, it's nuts in so many scenarios: PO on Harvest Golem - Smash enemy hero face for 6 damage - Shadowflame - Clean enemy board and you still have the mini-golem :3
This deck is great...really want to make a tink but that requires me d/e'ing my gold alexstraza.. :( should I?
edit: On that note, for my legendaries I'm running Jaraxxus, Sylvanas, Leeroy, and Alex. I Remember why I like havign twice the opportunity for a comeback with double molten giants + a 9 drop, not to mention playing that and then jaraxxus the turn after. Do you think this is a viable alternative? (I also have Rag so I could do something with that). But yeah, so far I'm back to liking this variation of Lock control because of all the utility watchers provide and having lots of taunts etc.
This deck has a problem with Mages.. How do we beat them?
Well, you got some heal cards in order to mitigate a bit of their burst damage spells. Baiting their fireballs/pyros is important: if you are at around 15 HP and you think you're going to eat a pyroblast, as long as you got some control on the board and Jaraxxus in your hand, try to wait till the mage "wastes" any of this big spells on your face and then use Jaraxxus as a kind of "heal back to 15".
Anyway, not an easy match, but mage can be nuts anytime, anywhere :3
Tested the 2 death coils and they do miracles! This removal against early 1 life creatures is great, not only @ the start of a game, but even some rounds later if the oponent drops a 1 life creature he draw or helping in trades of creatures. And the accelleration of the one card draw from the coil helps a lot, especially in early game that you kill that pesky leper gnome or loot hoarder. Its potential is even bigger when a rogue coins the brotherhood thugs in turn one (which happens almost every single time a rogue plays second), and you are able to clear one of their lot and deny him early trades and potential damage.
The mortal coils are amazing. If you pair it with shadow bolt you can kill a ton of 4 drops.
It was probably me, i never seen anyone else with a tag similar to mine, how bad to you kick my butt lol?
Any I do not have Alex so i can not say how useful she would be in the deck, but having a second emergency health reset not a bad thing and you can use her on your opponent to bring him down too so i can not see why not if you can find room.
I don't think Alexstraza is needed in this deck... it is very dangerous to tap out all of your mana for a Alex... I even find myself having difficulty putting Jaraxxus into play at times. This will be stuck in your hand and it will be a win more cards. Surprisingly, Leeroy Jenkins fits very well in the deck. Opponents just get surprised by a sudden lethal swing with a Giant, a 3/3, Hellfire and Leeroy.
Twisting nether i never had the need for that card so dont got it in mine, the spellbreaker is something i look into but then i rather take an owl for the ancient watchers, but tbh i got nothing i really want to take out cos everything is working solid
Very similar to mine, but I run Spellbreaker/Owl instead of Tinkmaster (don't have it), and I swap one Mortal Coil for a Power Overwhelming, spell that saves my ass tons of times (just won a "lost game" with Leeroy + a Power Overwhelming I got in the last moment).
Not a big fan of Mountain Giants, so that two spots are for trying "random stuff" in my deck :3
How important is Jaraxxus to these decks? I only ask because right now I am torn between crafting the black knight, jaraxxus or nat pagle. Jaraxxus is the only card i'm missing from stock lock control lists. wondering if it really is a necessity

Sylvanas Windrunner, The Black Knight, Tinkmaster Overspark. All what I consder to be "must have" legendaries right now. Some of you might know, I have been on The Black Knight train for quite some time now, and honestly, I think he is better than ever.
Molten Giant, those guys just do work, and a lot of it. See ya!
Nice list im gonna give it a test run with minor changes cause sadly i only have Jaraxxus out of the legendaries
Meh, i tried doing this without the black knight and jaraxxus since i don't have those and used cairne and ragnaros instead. I did terrible haha.
Sadly Lock control seems to require Jaraxxus in my experience i do not know why but it wont work with out him.
On a secondary note heres the list i've been testing which was modified from OP's list due to lack of Legendaries, let me know what yall think plz.
This deck is great...really want to make a tink but that requires me d/e'ing my gold alexstraza.. :( should I?

edit 2: Good news, I pulled a spark!
dear god no..alex is such a sick card. incorporate her into your late game imo or find a suitable replacement for tinky.
NO NOT ALEX, she is so useful if you dont want her ill take her i have dust
This deck has a problem with Mages.. How do we beat them?

Call me crazy or needy, but i can not talk my self into only running 1. Guess its kind of my crutch I do not feel safe without one in hand
The mortal coils are amazing. If you pair it with shadow bolt you can kill a ton of 4 drops.
I think I played you in a casual game today. I was using a priest u were playing shaman.
anyway about this deck, I was trying to build somethign similar but I don't have Jaraxxus :(.
Have you guys considered playing both Alextraza and Jaraxxus? They both accomplish similar things for the deck right?
It was probably me, i never seen anyone else with a tag similar to mine, how bad to you kick my butt lol?
Any I do not have Alex so i can not say how useful she would be in the deck, but having a second emergency health reset not a bad thing and you can use her on your opponent to bring him down too so i can not see why not if you can find room.

Any thoughts on Baron Geddon in this deck?

Would love to have The Black Knight, btw.
Deck seems to work fine anyway :)
See ya! :D
