Glad to see that you are advancing in the ranks with this deck. I am bit curious to know how you usually start your games (when you don't draw Leper/Secretkeeper). I usually find myself torn between throwing out trades out there but usually that means getting behind in board control or waiting to setup a buzzard/uth combo early on to get a good card advantage. Since I am pretty new I appreciate some guidelines :)
hey kalle, here are some little tips. If i finde the time, i will write a detailed guideline for playing this Deck. A good start is the "mulligan" strategy on the first page. Here again: following cards i keep everytime: Unleash the Hounds Starving Buzzard Animal Companion Eaglehorn Bow (only 1) Leper Gnome
follwing cards depend on the other cards or enemy heroes: Freezing Trap (if i have a Leper Gnome on the hand or vs. Druids, OR with Coin and a Eaglehorn Bow) Explosive Trap Always vs Warlocks and Hunters...maybe vs Paladins too or if i have a Eaglehorn Bow) DROP VS WARRIOR Hunter's Mark if i have 4 cards vs Warlocks or Druids...i keep it Flare Always keep one vs. Hunters
I really like the deck, also i'm glad to know someone is doing good with a non-rush hunter, i would like to build it aswell.
I have everything but Captain Greenskin, is it very staple or could it be replaced with something else??
i do really like him! I mean....if you cleared the board before and can drop him safe....i puts much pressure on the enemy hero. But you can replace him with another 5+ Drop....like Faceless Manipulator maybe? Savannah Highmane could also be a possibility.

Concerning mulligan strategy: I'm almost doing it exactly like Tobi, but I'm usually throwing away Starving Buzzard (if I don't have Unleash the Hounds), as it doesn't really work on its own.
kalle, I can really feel what you mean ("find myself torn between throwing out trades"). I think the secret behind the deck is that you don't always want to trade. In the end you win if your opponent died before you, so sometimes (not always!) you let him build up a little bit and just go for the face before you get Explosive Trap or (preferably) Starving Buzzard/Unleash the Hounds-Combo ready (never hesitate against Hunters though!). It really depends on the opponent and your cards and it's really hard to explain. Just don't play it like a (non-miracle) board control Rogue. You WANT his board to get advantageous trades! I hope this helps a litte bit :-/ (there are turns you just flip, tempo is not always that important!)
Pes, as Tobi said: Captain Greenskin is so much nicer than he looks on paper. Although I wouldn't spend the 1600 dust just for this deck. You could even try a Spiteful Smith (although Spiteful Smith is very nice for Rogue as you can recreate your wepon easily, durability is more important for Hunter, so Captain Greenskin is better in this case).
what a nice surprise...the Deck made it to the spotlight :)
spOh mentioned he would replace Hogger with Houndmaster . What do you guys think? Houndmaster COULD be really worth the try. The best synergy in this Deck would be with Animal Companion. If i draw Huffer....i guess he wont make it to the Next Round (in most cases) If i draw Misha which has a better surviability then Huffer...i have a strong 6/6 taunt and a awesome boardcontroll early If i draw Leokk....still a good target....4/6 with +1 to the other Minions...feels good! Another case to drop him....would be in Round 5 together with Stonetusk Boar....it would be like "coming like a wreeeeeecking ball!" xD
But in any other case....hm? Maybe Stranglethorn Tiger could be a good target too....
I also thought a lot about Hogger and as i mentioned above, I'm pretty sure he is the weakest card in the deck at the moment.
Houndmaster could be an option. It could help in the mirror matchs (which are quite draw dependent). But besideds that I'm not really sure if he would help too much. As there aren't that many creatures in the deck, the opponent has a lot of spare removal.
I think the general aproach for this particular slot should go in a specific direction: As Warriors are the worst threat, this slot should really help these matchups. If Houndmaster is the card to help, perfect. If not, maybe another card would be better.
What's the problem about Warriors? Is it the weapons? I don't feel this is the case. I haven't ssen too many Aggro Warrios lately. It's more, that they armor up a lot and we have some troubles getting rid of those Armorsmiths. Would more removal help? Probably not, too much overkill and dead cards in other matchups. So maybe we just need more reach. As the enemy often has more minions on the Board, Ragnaros the Firelord would be too much RNG. So why not try King Krush? I know, he can be a dead card. Although in these often long-lasting Warrior matchups he could really help with the last damage needed.
What do you guys think?
PS: Pes, I'm really curious, if Faceless Manipulator is performing, as I proposed him, but can't test him by myself :-/

King Krush could be and option....but mostly he will be a dead draw in any other game, because the game wont last that long. I really hope they will change him to something like 8 Mana with 8/6....(i guess this wont be OP). I've replaced Hogger now with Faceless....hope we have some big plays :)
What about Snipe?? Against warriors can do wonders, it's good against other hunters, it's good against shaman, can be good against murlocs (warleader, leeroy), and can be not so bad against druids, i know it's very situational, but it's a card that isn't expected to be played, i guess people do not play around it these days.

I would like to know what do you think about it.
i dont really like snipe, and here is the reason why: It will reach his full value only if the enemy minion has exactly 4 Health. For every other minion...it will lose its value! Hitting a Yeti oder Druid of the Claw or Fire Elemental?...they will still be alive. Hitting a minion with low health? Not really a thread, which means 2 wasted Mana. Its one of these cards which has a very big gap between the worst scenario and the best scenario and i think the moments in the "bad scenario part" will happen much more often.
@_Pes no decent player is throwing a worthful minion into a hunter trap, so snipe will usually kill a 1 or 2 mana minion, which isnt worth it. Sure its nice on paper but usually not worth it. Putting a minion back however is way better, becaus he has to spent way more mana to play it again, preventing other cards or plans!
@Tobi: I started off with the hunter back in October and I was really happy about the new UtH. Tried the rush deck, but its so unfun to play, I swapped back to WL/Shaman/Druid quickly (tosses my mage though :'( ). Ill try your deck, lets see what it can do :)
Its a beast and fishet out your legendary pirate..
check site 1! Question already came up ;)
But here are my answer:
1. If you take mulligan and draw Captain Greenskin....the Parrot would be veeeeery useless. 2. You HAVE to play him in Round 2 or you risk to draw the captain anyway 3. If you dont have the Bow....bouth cards are not so cool to play anymore and rot on your hand. 4. Acidic Swamp Ooze becomes even more dangerous ^^''

Happy to see hunters back on "track" -_-
That is the exact reason why i wanted to "develop" a non Rush Hunter Deck!! Rush Decks are always about Card Draw Luck....no big thinking or calculating found....for me thats no fun :)
I hope you will have some success so you will start to play Hunter again :D
I'm really looking forward to futher hunter Changes....do you guys want to see as possible Hunter Changes? I hope we will get some cards which let us choose the effect (like the druid ones). I guess that we wont see any new Traps this Year, but maybe new Weapons?

I don't think another weapon will come soon. As the they said, the adventures will only bring 20-30 new cards, so it will be 2 class specific cards maximum, which doesn't really change the whole set, so a third weapon might be too much for the moment?
What's really missing and very likely to come is another value-minion in the lower mana-range. Maybe something with Deathrattle. What's also needed is an alternative draw mechanic. Maybe a combination, like a 1/3 Beast Loot Hoarder?
I'm posting to thank Tobi on revealing his deck to us. Since playing this deck I'm almost rank 7. I had been stuck in rank 11 with Hunter Aggro/Mid-Range Druid for too long. This deck is probably one of my favourites I've played so far. I play a slightly different version of your deck since I don't have some of the legendary's.
I'm really glad that this Deck Idea could help you with the process in the ladder :) I Hope rank 7 is not the end? ;)
@Aquablad: I would absolutely add the second Stranglethorn Tiger. If you followed this thread from the beginning, the Stranglethorn Tiger hasn't been in the deck from the beginning but just has such an high impact and such flexibility (damage or removal), that he made it to a staple.
I'm actually curious, how Argent Commander is performing, as I also though about putting him in the flex slot (earlier: Hogger, currently: Faceless Manipulator). I just have concerns about his costs.
Two times i was just one win before Rank 1.....everytime vs a Hunter.....i lost both times! I guess i have to just prove myselfe!.....or just play better x)
hey kalle,
here are some little tips. If i finde the time, i will write a detailed guideline for playing this Deck. A good start is the "mulligan" strategy on the first page. Here again:
following cards i keep everytime:

Hunter's Mark if i have 4 cards vs Warlocks or Druids...i keep it
Flare Always keep one vs. Hunters
I replace the Rest.

UPDATE: Rank 2 1/5 (even though it might only be for a short time)... ;-)

I was Rank 2 3/5:.....till the warriors arrived.
Now i am at Rank 3 and 3/5.
And i tought i could reach rank 1 today ^^''.
They are the abolutly arch enemy of this Deck.
I was at 30 life and he at 1 Life and 2 Armor....yeah he still won.
Best today: 2 5/5 ...
Now 3 3/5, too.. ;-)

Id rather go for a Savannah Highmane instead of Spiteful Smith, as a silence wont hurth as much + you could combo it with the bussard.

I agree, that Big Game Hunter is too situational. There's enough removal with Hunter's Mark and traps, I never missed him. The Savannah Highmane is probably a quite good alternative for Captain Greenskin, if you don't own him.
I'm actually curious, how Argent Commander is performing, as I also though about putting him in the flex slot (earlier: Hogger, currently: Faceless Manipulator). I just have concerns about his costs.

I definilty like Faceless Manipulator! :D
He was a Game Winner for about 4 Times.
2x Leeroy Jenkins Copy
1x Ragnaros the Firelord Copy
1x Old Murk-Eye Copy
Two times i was just one win before Rank 1.....everytime vs a Hunter.....i lost both times!
I guess i have to just prove myselfe!.....or just play better x)
Maybe Legend this Weekend?
Captain Greenskin worth it?
