INTRODUCTION
Hello fellow Hearthstone players! My name is Jonny and i go by the name "Gamer" in game, I'm from England and I've been playing for a few years casually.
The deck has made front page overnight! A massive response from the community, Thank you all!
Since the nerf on Small-Time Buccaneer and Spirit Claws this deck's winrate has increased greatly!!
The deck made the "Top decks list" :) - http://www.hearthpwn.com/news/2294-the-best-standard-decks-to-play-after-the
Winrate + Matchup's
Welcome to my Priest deck list that i've been having some success with on the standard ladder, When i created it i had the current violent meta in mind, and have built the list to withstand the early aggression you get from the likes of shaman's and warriors. But without sacrificing late game potential.
GENERAL STRATEGY
You're generally looking to get control of the board using your high stat minions such as Drakonid Operative to build up enough of a force until you can manage to find way to lethal, either through a surprise Inner Firecombo or just purely through minions out-valuing your opponent
GENERAL MULLIGAN
Keep the cards stated first. the condition cards after the -----> are to be kept if you already have the card stated first.
Northshire Cleric----->Kabal TalonpriestPower Word: Shield
Twilight Whelp----->Twilight GuardianDrakonid OperativeAzure Drake
Wyrmrest Agent----->Twilight GuardianDrakonid OperativeAzure Drake
CLASS SPECIFIC MATCH UP
DRUID (EXPECTING JADE)
You should expect to win this match quite easily just through pure pressure, Druid's struggle to deal with the threats like Drakonid Operative since they need to use a lot of resources to deal with it. Just keep the pressure on, Use cards like Blackwing Corruptor to kill minions and get board control.
Be careful of the opponent getting too much value from Fandral Staghelm and Brann Bronzebeard. Try to keep removal for them
HUNTER
No longer exists in hearthstone :D
Mass dispel on cards like Savannah Highmane and Rat Pack
MAGE (EXPECTING RENO)
The key to winning this match up is decided on value. Using cards like Drakonid Operative and Netherspite Historian in conjunction with Brann Bronzebeard can generate you some great end-game tools. Finding Alexstrasza and using it after the opponent uses Reno Jackson can really help too
You might just surprise your opponent if you can find a Ysera or a Malygos and make it stick one turn. Followed up by Inner Fire
NOTE: Since the patch. There has been an increase in Tempo mage on the ladder.
PALADIN
I've not seen many on the ladder. I'll update when i have more data
PRIEST
Value match, Try to determine weather it's a Reno priest or a Dragon priest and play accordingly. Look for massive value with Brann Bronzebeard Netherspite Historian and Drakonid Operative to find threats
ROGUE
If Miracle Rogue, it's the worst match up. You need to play everything on curve and get a little lucky with the discover from Drakonid Operative I've won a couple of games by getting double discover. and finding Cold Blood+Conceal
The water rogue is a little different. Try to mulligan for Dragonfire Potion and take out Finja, the Flying Star as soon as he drops it.
Deal with aggro Rogue the same as Pirate warrior. Just constantly fight for board. You are favored as long as you can survive.
SHAMAN
I've found that this match up usually comes down to a race for early board control. If you can manage to win the early game using cards like Twilight WhelpWyrmrest AgentPotion of Madness then you're usually in a good position to win the game.
NOTE: Since the nerf of Spirit claws aggro shaman has all but died out. Expect Jade. Be the aggressor.
WARLOCK
Against Reno. Mulligan for Shadow Word: Death to deal with the turn 4 Mountain Giant Get as much value from Brann BronzebeardDrakonid Operative and Netherspite Historian as possible. When using Drakonid Operative You're looking for Lord Jaraxxus which can be a great way to destroy a warlock at his own game :D
Against Zoo. Fight for board control. You are slightly favored so long as you can hold off the onslaught of cheap minions. try to clear the enemy board every turn to avoid Power Overwhelming out valuing your big taunts.
WARRIOR (EXPECT PIRATE)
Everything relies on early game. You need to keep pirate's off the board to stop any sort of Pirate synergy's happening.
Pirate warrior uses no removal. so getting your big taunt's on the board is Imperative!
Mulligan hard for Twilight WhelpPotion of MadnessWyrmrest AgentNorthshire Cleric Also consider keeping Twlight guardian as an activator
NOTE: Since the patch. Potion of Madness now destroy's pirate's early game. Woo!
CHANGE NOTES
With the violent meta finally calming down i've made a few changes.
+2 Dragonfire potion to deal with Finja + murlocs
- Potion of madness - Inner fire. These cards no longer hold enough value after the nerf.
+ Ragnaros + Argus + Book wyrm
Thank you to kiwiinbacon for another awesome showcase! :)
Hey could you explain your thought process behind - Mass Dispel + Silence?
Is it because of what you said about there being almost no rogues or smth but you still need something vs deathrattles/taunt?
Well, this is an okay deck, I did try it out and after some games I can tell that the main problem with this deck is that it hasn't got enough dragons. I lost so many games cuz I couldn't activate my blackwind corruptor, historian or drakonid. Inner fire is an interesting pick though, a really nice combat trick
My overall win rate with this deck from rank 10 to rank 5 was 56.4% (62 games).
My best matchup was Rogue with an 83% win rate and my worst matchup was Warrior with a 33% win rate. Shaman, Warrior, and Mage were my most common opponents (10+ matches each) and two of the three were favored (>66% win rate). I'm sure I made many mistakes, so a 60% or 65% win rate is reasonable. On-stream, Kolento had >75% win rate over ~40 games at high rank.
In my opinion, this deck is all about tempo vs value. Sometimes it can be hard to tell when to push for a big board or when to try and get the most value out of your cards. I still haven't quite figured out how to do this correctly. Regardless, it's fun to play and quite competitive in the current meta. I highly recommend it!
Note: If anyone has tips for how to survive against pirate warrior with this deck I'd appreciate them. Warrior was my only matchup under 40% win rate (30.7% over 13 games).
He was playing a very similar Dragon Priest last week, before you posted here. I think he had 2 cards different?
Update: My win rate versus pirate warrior has now dropped to 25% (playing around ranks 4-5). Considering it is the 2nd most common matchup, I'm not sure how competitive this deck can be at high ranks. This deck also, in my experience, performs quite poorly vs Jade Shaman (another very common deck). I'll incorporate the Silence edit and see if my luck changes. Let me know if you have any additional tips for these matchups!
Delightful deck, but can you fix all the instances of "you're"? It's killing me...
There is one in the "General Strategy" text!
Anyway, very cool deck, thanks!
Much appreciated!
Just hit rank 5 on NA from around rank 13 so wanted to post my results took me 41 games ended up on 28-13 (68% win) but should have been 29-12 lost my win streak vs a priest that I should have won, accidentally played Drakonid Operative instead of the stolen Dragonfire Potion + Bran + buff up with Inner fire to 4/4 and clear board to play netherspite + Drakonid next turn. Coulda sworn I clicked and dragged Dragonfire =(.
So deck definitely works up to rank 5 not sure how I'll go without win streak bonus. Will post results after I play a few more games
Currently:
3-2 vs Druid - 3-1 vs Jade Druid, trick vs Jade Druid is to put on lots of early game pressure and try finish early you won't win late game once the jades start ramping up, mulligan for twilight whelp/Wyrmrest Agent Kabal Talonpriest. northshire and netherspite are also okay, Inner Fire is good if you have Kabal Talonpriest to turn a 1/3 netherspite into 6/6 forces them to swipe/mulch etc on a 2 mana minion. Always play around Swipe after 4 mana, if you have a minion with 4 or 5 health and the other ones on 1 or 2 you're asking for trouble. The other druid I lost againist was a weird one using arcane giants 2 and 4 mana 8/8 hurt =( didn't manage to get Shadow Word Death.
1-0 vs Hunter
2-1 vs Mage - as gamers has said already expect reno get value from Brann + netherspite + Drakonid discovers.
2-2 vs Priest similar to Mage get value from Brann + netherspite + Drakonid, first one to get board control wins. Normally ends up being a Drakonid discover fest it's just such good value 5/6 with a discover for potential 5/6.
1-0 vs Rogue Haven't seen many around the one I face used this coins and preparation to get a 12/12 Van Cleef but ran into my Double SWD used one on his Tomb pillager because I had 2 in my hand guess he wasn't expecting me to have another =S
9-3 vs Shamans, had more trouble vs aggro shaman which I couldn't get board control but try mulligan for Potion of Madness, Wyrmrest Agent and twilight whelp I'm even happy to keep Twilight Guardian for the taunt and reduce face dmg. You should be able to out value mid shamans, Aya and Jade lightning are really good steals clears minions and builds your board.
8-2 vs Warlocks, I'm actually incredibly surprised at how well this deck works vs warlocks. The previous dragon priest decks I've played I hated facing locks but with Inner Fire I can catch a few of them off guard especially since most just tap the first few turns leaves me to buff my netherspite/northshire to 1/8 with PWS and Talonpriest then bam 8/8 on turn 4 and turn 5 Drakonid sends them into a panic. If you don't finish them early then go for value from Brann + Discovers.
2-3 vs Warriors, Having a bit of trouble vs warriors one was just total BS, he coined out 2x buccaneers then second turn does N'zoths and southsea deckhand but at least haven't faced a lot of them. Basically have to mulligan for potion of madness, twilight whelp, Wyrmest Agent and Twilight Guardian is even especially if already have twilight whelp in hand.
General thoughts - Definitely don't think Dragonfire potion is required in this deck, holy nova has a lot better synergy given the healing it provides, can be used on turn 5 to clear board of low health minions you can also use holy + azure or Drakonid on turn 10. Priests main benefit is board control with our hero power 2 heal and high health minions/buffs we are able maintain board control better than other classes, no board = loss.
I've played a lot of Dragon Priest this season and last so definitely know my way around, I think if you're having trouble with the deck at rank 15 then I think you just need to get familiar with the deck and learn how to play the deck.
Inner fire is an interesting tech, but I don't really get Mass Dispel, it's supposed to help you against rogue, but if you went 1-4 against them, then I guess it's not working.
I stopped trying to reach highest rank possible (usually 5 or better. ) since MSG had come out. New aggro meta made me sick - even my control warrior couldn't handle. What's more I didn't even try to pass through rank 17.
Then I found your deck. Just woah. From 17 to 11 on winning streak (and still going!)
GJ!
The addition of Inner Fire had some surprisingly good results...people really don't expect it.

GG
Cancerous deck
Yup. It represents everything that's wrong with how they've "balanced" the game so far. I'm a priest main, several thousand wins, and I can't stand playing it, and I can't stand playing against it.
I'd take *any* meta before this current one.
10-1 -at rank 6/5 atm. This deck is just insane agaisnt shaman, thanks a lot buddy !
Believe ? This is from the maker of this decks results, he has 70% but everyone might not play this as well as him and get worse stats and some may play this perfectly and actually have 90% who knows, but i bet since you say its hardly 70% just tells me you suck at it.
THats called marketting - with some loose stats to back it up. Thats how you get a deck to the front is by putting a high winrate and it helps if you actually achieved it and can verify - but peoples arent meant to take that as a guarantee - especially noobs that complain about posted winrates :-P .
best deck ever unke greedy
Good deck! Really good deck, replace Kabal Talonpriest x2 on Thoughtsteal x2, works great for me!
Hard vs Lotus, dudu actually. Febrary patch makes lotus more stronger!

Thx 4 deck!
