Replaced Flamestrike with Acolyte of Pain in the list. There were only 2 games of 30 where I missed the replaced Flamestrike.
Rewrote the guide to make it solid and structurized.
Replaced Acolyte of Pain with Rhonin. Not a must, slows the deck, but empowers it a bit.
I appreciate the attention to this list and want to thank everyone who likes and comments it. If you play this deck in ladder, and have some ideas how to improve it, please comment. You are welcome to share your stats, coz all info will help to make this list better.
With the fix release, The Best God is getting nerfed (I appreciate this nerf a lot), and probably he will be gone from ladder decks. Tempo Mage used Yogg in hard matchups to draw some cards and remove enemy table or to set up the lethal. Mostly, Tempo Mage dont need Yogg to win, but can get out of steam playing against control.
This list is based on Tempostorm meta-deck and Gnoki's 83% winrate deck, with few changes. I wanted to try Barnes in mage, and I think he is pretty useful.
1) Card choices:
Nothing can replace the core! Replacing other cards can make the deck budget, but of course, less efficient. Consider this cards as replacers for legendaries - Faceless Summoner, Forgotten Torch, Ethereal Conjurer, Firelands Portal. Note that deck will lose 40-70% of power and best Barnes synergies.
The Core (22 cards)
2x Arcane Blast - low cost target removal. Combine with +spd and Flamewakers to take the board. The MAIN card for tempo mage archetype.
2x Arcane Missiles - spell synergy activator, RNG board clear, sometimes even a match finisher.
1x Mirror Image - protection for you Wyrms and Sorcerers. Spell synergy activator.
2x Mana Wyrm - one of the best 1 drops in game. Tons of damage and a target for enemy to focus.
1x Arcane Explosion - with 5 +spd cards and flamewakers becomes really powerful.
2x Frostbolt - any mage will run this one.
2x Cult Sorcerer - 3/2 with +spd, one of the best 2 mana drops in game.
2x Sorcerer's Apprentice - spell discount for high tempo turns, combos.
2x Arcane Intellect - card draw and minion synergies.
2x Flamewaker - the MAIN card for tempo mage archetype. Don't play without using some spells immediately.
2x Fireball - any mage will run this one.
1x Barnes - Not a must, but makes this list special. High synergy with almost every card in the deck. More info in 3 section.
2x Azure Drake - Solid body, +spd, card draw. Musthave.
Win-condition
1x Archmage Antonidas - makes Fireballs for your finisher. Almost impossible to win control decks without Antonidas.
1x Emperor Thaurissan - second part for Antonidas combo. Nice 6 drop when you have 5+ cards, especially if you have 8 drops or parts of the combo. If you dont run both Antonidas and Tome - replace Thaurissan.
1x Ragnaros the Firelord - 8 mana, 8 damage. BOSS drop from Barnes.
Replaceable
1x Babbling Book - getting additional spell is crucial for Tempo Mage, coz you will get out of cards very quickly. Can be replaced by Loot Hoarder
1x Cabalist's Tome - nothing can replace the impact of this spell, but if you dont have it or dont like it, you can use Ethereal Conjurer or Forgotten Torch (Torch wouldnt break Barnes summon list)
1x Bloodmage Thalnos - good drop for +spd and cycle. Can be replaced with Kobold Geomancer (+spd) or Loot Hoarder/Acolyte of Pain (cycle). Cycle replace is recommended.
1x Rhonin - solid body and 3 missiles for your Antonidas/Flamewakers. Helps vs control decks a lot. Very nice with Barnes, or Thaurissan discount. IF U REPLACE ONLY THIS CARD RUN Acolyte of Pain
2) Mulligan:
Always keep: Mana Wyrm, Babbling Book, Cult Sorcerer, Sorcerer's Apprentice, Frostbolt
Keep with coin: Flamewaker
Combine your Mirror Image and Arcane Missiles with Mana Wyrm, Flamewaker and Sorcerers. Combine Arcane Blast with +spell damage or Flamewakers, or keep against classes playing 2hp drops (Hunter, Mage, Warlock, Shaman).
Never keep 2 copies of Arcane Missiles, Arcane Blast. Consider 2 Mana Wyrm only if you are sure to save at least one of them for 3 turns. You can keep Barnes in slow matchup if you are super lucky.
3) Barnes synergies:
Bad - Babbling Book
Below average - 2x Mana Wyrm
Average - 2x Cult Sorcerer, 2x Azure Drake AND Acolyte of Pain
Above average - Bloodmage Thalnos, 2x Sorcerer's Apprentice, 2x Flamewaker
"Perfect" - Emperor Thaurissan, Ragnaros the Firelord, Archmage Antonidas OR Rhonin
4) My climbing and stats:
1st day 10/6/2016: rank 18 to rank 10 - overall 26/14, 65% winrate, about 4 hours.
5) Community tips (gameplan, mechanic explanation):
ColouReZ tips:
Very good deck, climbed from rank 15 to 9 in a few hours today with a winstreak peak of 10. Although I changed the babbling book for a polymorph, which I've find very good use of. It was quite difficult to tech that in since there are barely any bad cards here but I thought that the babbling book might have been the weakest link.
If someone has a difficult time winning with this deck I can explain how I won with it.
It's all about knowing your win condition. This deck is very flexible so the first strategy which is best against other board control dependant, early game, fast decks that does not have heal is to pull out mana wyrn, 2 drops and flamewakers pretty much on curve, with a little spell comboing still. To get the board control and then just finish it off rather quickly with burn and repetitive face damage.
Against controlly decks especially paladin who has lots and lots of heal, antonidas is the most important card. Try to play value in the early game and don't overextend on the board like you would do against aggro/midrange decks. Then you want to setup a combo, save up some 1 mana spells, emperor them if you have emperor, then create a lot of fireballs with emperor to be able to deal a very high amount of damage in a few rounds. Ragnaros is very useful as a kinda board comeback card, opponent removal waster whilst it's already done 8 dmg.

well have srshots but nt with this deck instead hunter n shaman.
Replaced Rhonin with medivh and the deck runs great.
Any replacement for Antonidas? Ragnaros maybe? :/ I'm free to play so I don't have Antonidas....
What does free to play mean? You can spend in-game gold, dust, or cash to get any of the adventures or cards. You also surely have some cards that aren't part of the initial free cards you started with, making the distinction meaningless.
Anyway on a lighter note, craft Antonidas if you enjoy mage, as he is pretty legit. Ragnaros is more important though since it's used in many decks.
great deck (mine using flamestrike) laddering from 17 to 8 (1more game till rank 7) with this deck and dragon warrior just lose 4x
this is my gameplay today, win 3 streak with this deck vs tyrande and druids

What card did you sub for Flamestrike?
im dc >.< and got back in 4.53 sorry for that one, currently my country dc a lot when playing.. im shocked when im play that one too haha i think its bug, but after wait a minute, it show up haha btw thank for watching :)
i change rhonin with flamestrike coz you need flamestrike to face midrange deck like hunter and shaman which has 3/4 HP
Running this deck and having a very grand time so far.
My only issue is running into Mid-Range Shaman and Zoolock atm. Now i generally know that these matchups aren't favoured. Could you provide some general tips for these two particular matchups?
Thanks, big fan!

for my cases, I save flamestrike (mine use flamestrike instead of rhonin) for midrange shaman combo, or you can save your arcane explosion and use thalnos + cult + cult so give 4 damage. for zoolock its easier coz most of minion have 2 HP, and sometimes just yolo and fire everything you got to face not minions
like this is my video, i use that combo but different case, to burst 5/10taunt in about 20:00 you can see it below
All I run into are those dumb warlock decks who flood the board with the low mana minions and the dumb ones that gain attack every time something is summoned. How am I supposed to build any kind of momentum when I am playing catch-up the entire game plus no removal for full boards?
You might want to tech in an extra arcane explosion if you're seeing a lot of them. The combo with Bloodmage is great for controlling discolock. I've also had decent luck getting AOE from Cabalist's Tome (if I'm still alive by turn 5-6-7) to save my ass.
It all comes down to the mulligans and setting yourself up for that one big round of board removal and then a nice, easy win.
Hi, just wondering if I lose a lot of deck power if I don't have Cabalist's Tome and two Arcane Blast.
Cabalist's Tome is used as fuel for Archmage Antonidas, but you can use Ethereal Conjurer as the creator suggested.
Arcane Blast is such a good card that you WILL regret not having it in many situations. It can be combined with Bloodmage Thalnos to kill a Totem Golem, Flamewaker for board control, and it's a cheap spell to use with Antonidas. If you must, swap for another Mirror Image and Babbling Book(or whatever spell), but you have been warned.
To play Tempo Mage, you need Arcane Blast. Craft them or look for another deck type to win with. Just being brutally honest so you don't waste your time.
Hej,
great working deck for me so far (currently rank 8/7). Getting Rhonin out of the Barnes and then dropping Antonidas is so awesome! <3

Glad you like it) Thanks for the video, attached it to the guide.
If you don't have Antonidas, then there's less synergy between Barnes, Thaurissan, and Rhonin. The irony is, the deck might be more powerful without Antonidas simply because there are too many high-mana minions for a tempo deck already. Rhonin, however, is the worst card in this deck and is the 1 card that is probably better left out than in. But, he's also really fun if you can pull of the various combos that his deathrattle allows.
look at card choices...
Acolyte of Pain
