Antiaggro Priest (Old Gods - Standard)

1 - Overview

Tired and salty with the predominant aggro meta, harder than ever to deal with, due to the lack of good taunts and heals in Standard (RIP Deathlord, Sludge Belcher, Antique Healbot...), I decided to build a deck with so many AOEs in it that it would be able to punish all this board overextension, and added Elise Starseeker on top of that to get a feeling of "ol' times Control Priest" (a different flavor than the old gods give).

Since then, I've been tweaking the deck (deathrattle card draw + N'Zoth, the Corruptor initially, and then I replaced N'Zoth with Yogg and loothoarder with Power Word: Shield), and it has ended up quite decent. It may not be a top tier deck, but it performs above average (tested at rank 15), and the aggro exhaustion feels so good. So, for all those control / fatigue deck lovers, I suggest you try it ;)

As with any control deck, it is all about managing and saving ressources to get good value out of your cards while being careful not to die (duh), and then making that sweet sweet comeback (due to the bad initial curve of the deck, you will often be behind at the beginning, but with the AOEs and the heals, you shouldn't be that overwhelmed).

As AOE struggles against single targets, there are 2 Shadow Word: Death and 2 Entomb, as well as 3 heal-to-dmg cards (1 Embrace the Shadow + 2 Auchenai Soulpriest) which should be used to convert all that anti-aggro heals into removal / unexpected face nuke.

 2 - First published Deck

2.1 - List

Priest Cards (22)

Neutral Cards (8)

 2.2 - Card choices

  •  Power Word: Glory: it is actually an incredibly good stalling card, for when the opponent is smart enough not to overextend, or when you lack the answer for an annoying minion (4-attack minions with Divine Shield or big health, for instance). Just don't forget that its effect is not that good when you have an Auchenai Soulpriest on board...

  • Northshire Cleric: Underwhelming in practice (low health minions inthis deck aren't worth healing; deathrattle card draw usually suffices)

  • To be done (Upvotes will encourage me to do so :3 )

 3 - Current deck

To be done (Upvotes will encourage me to do so :3 )

4 - Strong / Weak against...

  • Very strong against mild Control (C'Thun Warrior for instance: stay above C'Thun OTK threshold while keeping 1 Entomb for C'Thun and 1 SW: Death for the following Doomcaller and the game is won)

  • Quite Strong against hard Control and mild Aggro

  • Decent against Tempo and hard Aggro

  • Very weak against OTKs (helpless against Warrior's Raging Worgen OTK for instance)

5 - Mulligan and Discover choices

To be done (Upvotes will encourage me to do so :3 )

6 - Deck in action (Youtube)

3 nice matches against midrange and control (loothoarder instead of Thalnos though)

Matches:
- First 33 minutes -> 3 matches against Aggro (Hunter)
- At 33:12 -> A nice match against Control (Elise-N'Zoth Priest)
