Hey guys.
This deck is a variation of many of the other egg druids that used to be seen heavily. I thoroughly considered the factors that threw this deck out of the meta, and made some changes to maintain strength against even the strongest of decks.
I have a semi-official recording of my winnings with this deck, using notepad and simple W/L ticking.
1st Run: 12W - 3L
2nd Run: 15W - 2L
3rd Run: 10W - 2L
I credit J4CKIECHAN's guide for some of the info included in this guide, and will quote the things that I consider important.
SOME OF THE CHANGES INCLUDE:
(With reasoning)
1) Cult Master
This card isn't used as much as it used to, for many reasons that I completely agree with. But it fits perfectly in this deck, as there are many opportunities to get 3-4 cards out of it + a Soul of the Forest combo. Some exceptions include decks that regularly fill the board with low cost minions, and sticky minions that use death rattles to maintain board control. While the cult master is vulnerable after it has been played, if used correctly it can be very valuable to increase the tempo of a deck (with the Echoing Ooze + Mark of the Wild combo, it can be kept on the board for more than a few turns.
Also a great alternative to Jeeves, a card that is very situational and can hurt more than it helps
2) Starfire
A fantastic card for closing a game, as well as for clearing those pesky taunts that your minions cannot deal with. Can combo very well with Savage Roar to bring your enemy down in a single turn, especially if you haven't dug up the secondSavage Roar.
I originally did not run this card with my deck, but made changes to accommodate the recent Grim Patron Warrior decks that otherwise threatens the typical Egg Druid deck. This card is great turning a game around when you can't get your tempo going. Normally I wouldn't include this in an egg druid deck, but with the current meta of dragon priests and patron warriors, it made a lot of sense to run it.
It is crucial to include at least one silence in any Egg Druid deck, in the event of an unexpected taunt that prevents your from closing a game. The versatility of this card also allows you to do that little extra damage that you might need, although I recommend holding on to it for its silencing properties unless absolutely necessary.
MULLIGAN
You want your early minions like Dragon Egg, Living Roots, Haunted Creeper, Nerubian Egg and Echoing Ooze. However Innervate i really useful as well as it can help to get and early advantage. I often keep Abusive Sergeant or Mark of the Wild if i already have a cheap minion to use them on. If you have a couple of cheap minions in hand then i would sometims keep Power of the Wild as this can help you to gain board control ASAP. In short, anything that would be a great topdeck when you have board control, get rid of!
If you can get Echoing Ooze and Mark of the Wild down on the 3rd turn with a Cult Master in your hand for the following turn, you can expect to almost indefinitely win the game (so long as they cannot remove them on their turn) as this kick-starts your tempo.
A quick guide on how to play this deck:
Try to fill the board with 3-4 low value minions and almost always use your Living Roots to fill the board. Then get Soul of the Forest (preferred) or a buff going to make your minions sticky.
As soon as you get a taunt up with either Defender of Argus or Mark of the Wild (before or after Soul of the Forest, depending on how much you suspect a clear from the opponent), you have the choice to either throw down your cult master before or after your opponent uses their clear. Either way, you have the same amount of card draw, which will allow you to maintain your tempo and keep control of the board.
Power of the Wild is very situational and can be used in any of the above steps to prevent a board clear, to overpower your opponents minions, or to combo with Savage Roar.
Try to save that Savage Roar for closing the game, as it almost always comes with a surprise, especially if you use it in synergy with Power of the Wild + Abusive Sergeant
Hope you enjoyed my guide and I wish you the best of luck with this deck!
Do not add any of those cards lol. I recommend switching Dragon Egg out for Imp Master, Harvest Golem, or Acolyte of Pain
which ranks did you advance with this deck?
Rank 12 to Rank 2
Very fun deck and probably the first ever Druid deck without FoN that feels like it does work for me. Though I don't think posted win rates are realistic. In casual it seems to have settled on 60% (11-7) for me, respectable, but not nearly meta-breaking.
I don't think Cult Masters accomplish much for me. There was never a good opportunity to get value out of them. Might explore putting in more burst instead of them.
Deck seems to get countered very hard by Tempo Mage, Flamewaker easily obliterates the board.
Cult masters are interchangeable with a multi-draw card that works alongside with your play style.
Flamewaker can fuck you up, but can be easily avoided with the timing of Soul of the Forest or by claiming early game board control.
Sounds like you aren't playing the deck right. It takes quite a lot of practice to get the hang of it.
I'm noticing that token pally gives me a lot of trouble, and actually pally in general is one of this deck's weak points. I'm considering swapping Echoing Ooze for Swipe for the lowbie board clear. Thoughts?
This is practical against face decks, but a lack of spell damage makes it a lot less effective than other druid decks that run swipe. I would still say there's room for a swipe if you really want it.
Try using Starfall which can clear those pesky palladin boards or a single minion
No innervate is the best choice for this type if deck. Because it is often you have enough mana but not enough card to play so no need for innervates. Most of times you have only 3 card in your hand and when you draw innervate it is "bleh". Innervante is only essential for midrange druid deck which has lots of big minions.
My opponent's Spellslinger just gave me a Blessing of Kings. Yay, 4/6 Dragon Egg!
Haha gotta love that backfire on the Spellslinger
Your lack of Swipe surprises me. Is there a specific reason why?
Because of the sticky minions and strong early-mid game, you should be able to compete with your counterpart. The only real threat to this deck is either an overwhelming amount of clears, or when the opponent has a deck of high cost minions that are hard to clear. Swipe fails to correct either of these issues without the presence of spell damage, which is a whole different deck type. Sylvanas Windrunner and Soul of the Forest are my attempt at overcoming both of these hurdles.
Sylvanas Windrunner is definitely a solid presence in the deck. It forces your opponent to deal with her or else.
There's definitely a lot of use for Innervate in decks similar to mine, I find it makes the deck generally easier to play. If you have a good grasp on the mechanics of this deck however, you don't really need it and can make better use of the card slots. Drawing Innervate on opening hand can do more harm than good - you clean out your hand much faster and are unable to get card draw until mid game. Sticky minions like Haunted Creeper, Mounted Raptor, and Nerubian Egg help to keep minions on the board for your Power of the Wild orSoul of the Forest combos
seconded. There's not really a reason to run it in here.
That's an interesting suggestion, I will definitely look into and test it out!
