Total Deck Rating

This is my version of the Bolster + Hobgoblin warrior deck.
The goal of this deck is to overwhelm your opponent with 3/X taunt minions in the midgame. It's more vulnerable to bad card draw than I'd like but when it works, it works well and is a lot of fun.
Mulligans
Weapons, card draw, and early taunts (Dread Corsair if you have weapons, or Annoy-o-Tron).
Turn 1-4
Use weapons to clear early minions. Fiery War Axe is preferable for turn 2 (1 with coin), and combos well with Dread Corsair for 1 mana. Alternatively Turn 4 Death's Bite + Dread Corsair for 0 mana is a good way to get board control quickly.
Play toward card draw with Novice Engineer/Acolyte of Pain (and Battle Rage if possible) to get either Bolster or Hobgoblin with some 1-attack Taunts. Novice Engineer is also good for creating Execute targets.
If you end up with Bolster, getting 2-3 taunts down before using it is more than enough to create some momentum. Use your Bolstered minions to maintain board control and set up for Battle Rage. A big Battle Rage draw should get you set up for your Hobgoblin drop.
Turn 5
If you have some taunts out, now you can drop Hobgoblin and start your engine. Your top priority is to keep your Hobgoblin alive long enough to buff 3+ minions, so I save him for turn 5 to drop with a 2-mana taunt. Annoy-o-Tron is preferred, but Sparring Partner to buff a non-taunt works too.
Alternatively, use Emperor Thaurissan to set up a big combo and soak up some removals that would otherwise go to your Hobgoblin.
Turn 6+: Combos
Play 1-attack minions for maximum value. Lance Carrier with Hobgoblin gives you a total of +5/+4 for 2 mana. Echoing Ooze is good for +6/+8. Taunting the ooze with Sparring Partner is amazing and gives you three Bolster targets. Gnomeregan Infantry is great for urgent removals.
Endgame
Keep up steady damage on your opponent. Their move will be to kill your Hobgoblin with spells, since you should have too many taunts for their minions to get through. Though double Hobgoblin makes for amazing buffs, save it for replacements and don't make yourself vulnerable to Hellfire, Flamestrike etc.
You should end up with a board nearly full of sparkling 3/X taunt minions facing very little opposition. It doesn't look like a lot of attack, but it adds up quickly, and you should be able to win within 3-4 turns.
Alternatives to try
- Enhance-o Mechano for more damage and more taunts to bolster.
- Enhance-o is strictly better than Flying Machine because of its synergy with a big board and possibility of Windfurying more than one minion.
- Jeweled Scarab
Vulnerablities
TK. Agro and control, anything preventing you building your taunt wall. Direct damage spells to Hobgoblin.
My version of this deck has a bit more double synergy with both Bolster and Hobgoblin, but it's otherwise very similar. I dropped the Echoing Oozes and added Unstable Ghoul and Goldshire Footman. The core of the deck is the same, though.
Jeweled Scarab is great in this deck. It has hobgoblin synergy and will almost always give a taunt (fierce monkey, ironfur grizzly, Gnomergon Infantry) I've also gotten Hobgoblin off it before which is pretty sweet.
Nice! I'll try that out.
Could work! My strategy with this deck is geared around big one-turn combos, but if you could keep Hogger and his gnolls alive long enough to bolster them, you'd have a nice set of 4/4s to work with.
Unfortunately hogger just isn't that good a card. Despite its powerful effect, the popularity of cards like piloted shredder means you rarely ever get the chance to play him, and when you do he's rarely on the field for more than a turn.
This works pretty well in this hunter heavy meta. Underated deck.
Thanks! I'm still tweaking it to be better against AOE, but it works pretty well otherwise.
Ik what you mean, consecration is really damaging with this deck. Flamestrike isn't as bad though because usually by then I have my mogushan wardens on the field. :3
Replaced a dread corsair for The Black Knight. It's been working well in this secret pally meta to kill the Tirions. Also has great synergy with Sparing Partner.
