Overview:
This deck aims to make use of Shaman's Corrupt the Waters quest to double-up on the powerful battlecries of Zephrys the Great and Dragonqueen Alexstrasza. This deck mainly fits into a control archetype; removing minions and/or applying slow, steady minion pressure until the opponent runs out of removal.
Mulligan:
Mulligans with this deck are fairly simple; we are mostly trying to curve out until quest is completed. Against aggro, be sure to keep Lightning Storm and Serpentshrine Portal as well as Mutate if you also have Novice Engineer or EVIL Cable Rat in you hand. In slower matchups it is better to save mutate for Corrupt Elementalist or Sky Gen'ral Kragg.
Gameplan:
This deck requires some practice to pilot properly. Counting your opponent's removal, managing hand size, and deciding when to play for tempo versus value are all important skills to have. One of the unique aspects of playing this deck is spell selection on discover effects.
This deck only runs 7 spells (not counting quest), however, it generates many many more from the various spell generating battlecry minions. It is important to know which spells are good in which matchups. In general; silence/transform effects are good vs rogue and priest, AoE is good vs demon hunter, heal is good vs demon hunter and hunter, and board buffs are good vs druid. Earthquake is a huge bait; it costs too much mana to remove aggro boards, and doesn't do enough damage to remove control boards.
Some other miscellaneous tips:
- Try to save a coin for hero power - coin - alexstraza.
- Always play Galakrond, the Tempest before completing the quest if you can. Double battlecry Kronx Dragonhoof is better than double galakrond.
- Double zephrys isn't as good as it sounds; he very rarely gives battlecry minions. A notable exception is Twilight Drake if you have 4 mana left.
- Don't be afraid to use you burn cards to remove minions; this deck has some seriously heavy-hitting cards. You don't have to rely on burn damage as a win condition.
- Swampqueen Hagatha is truly disgusting in this deck. The Drustvar Horrors typically will either create a board, or push massive amounts of burst. Getting a double battlecry horror with Eye of the Storm and Vivid Spores is exactly as insane as it sounds, as is getting a double Bloodlust and Lava Burst.
- Some things to note about picking spells for the horrors; You can only get 1 targeted spell per horror, and Each spell can only be picked once. Also, there are 3 targeted burn spells, but only one bloodlust. So if you are trying to make a burst damage horror always pick bloodlust over a burn spell for the first pick.
how is it vs. Rogues if you take too long to drop Galakrond or Alex? I found them difficult cause lackeys > all.
Also I think DH/Hunter can push too much dmg early and if you don't draw witches brew or Lighting its gg, Barista is a little too much no?
Id say that this deck in unfavored vs rogue. That matchup is pretty much boils down to whoever drops alex first wins. Since rogue draws more and can cheat mana, they usually drop alex first. The lackeys arent much of a problem; this deck has excellent spot removal for small minions. If you draw scheme early, draw zeph, invoke fully, AND draw galakrond you can fatigue the rogue, but its very hard.
This deck is tuned pretty heavily to counter demon hunter, Id say the matchup is slightly favored. shaman removal isnt all that good, but it lines up super well with demon hunter. This deck can hold on for a long time with just spot removal from lackeys, galakrond invokes, and targeted spells. storm is nice, but not essential. Honestly, other than zephyrs, mad bomber is probably your best card off mulligan vs dh. Dont forget we also can discover witches brew. potion vendor and galakrond can also help keep you alive after youve won the board.
The hunter matchup plays out pretty similarly to dh except our removal lines up much worse vs their 3 and 5 health minions.
Without barista the deck can sometimes stall from running out of cards. Shaman draw is so bad.
just hit legend for my first time with this deck! I made one final change swapping out Shattered Rumbler for Scavenging Shivarra. Even with the buffed stats and all the synergy in the world, Rumbler is too situational and inconsistent to warrant play. Shivarra in comparison has no activation requirement and is much more flexible. Mutate also combos nicely with Shivarra--somewhat forgiving her bad stats. 6-drops make for particularly good evolve targets in standard right now.
I would prefer Lurker so your minions survive. Also I mainly used her against ie. DH minions so they would die from it. Its bad like I said if you don't draw witches brew cause you don't run Elemental or other heal, which is needed badly against DH or Hunter. And also no relieable silence or frog which makes me loose some games that I wouldve won otherwise, that ruins climbing cause games are tough.
interesting deck gonna try it

also updated the decklist. removed the 1 mana 1/3 overload guy and earthquake, added witch's brew and swamp queen hagatha. Hagatha is very very good.
