Greeetings, my name is Bond, GamesBond. A seasoned (and exclusive!) Handlock player of recently acquired legendary status! I love and play Handlock for its sheer power and deep tactics.
1. The Goal:
This is a variation on Handlock that will attempt to counter the agressive format which is likely the new "Mech-Meta" when Goblins vs Gnomes is released, while also being even more effective against Midrange and Control decks. When the hype-dust settles, we look to our old favourites and make them better.
2. The Concept (Oh sweet tweaks!):
- The concept is to get more healing, something the Warlock class has always struggled with. How do we accomplish this? Antique Healbot heals for 8, almost triple that of Earthen Ring Farseer. No longer will we narrowly perish to that last Kill Command or Soulfire!
- "However, Earthen Ring Farseer also heals my minions!" True, and this is where Recombobulator comes in. It will turn damaged Molten Giants into fresh ones and damaged Mountain Giants into either healthy ones, or Clockwork Giants.
- Thirdly, we've switched out Soulfire for Darkbomb. The new mana cost of Soulfire makes the random card discard extra painful for Handlock players (even though we enjoy the occasional pain and torment!)
- Four. A new addition has been made! We have replaced Ancient Watcher with Ogre Brute. A solid turn 3 play that can sometimes attack past taunts. He does not require activation by silence, and makes for a great Shadowflame target at 4 attack! (Thanks to Xaiur, a most wise Warlock!)
Have fun, and Inferno!!
Please leave a comment and hit that button! (It seems small yet it helps)
Recombobulator card writeup! (Pray to RNGesus!)
|5 mana target| Antique Healbot or damaged Sludge Belcher
- Best case! Earth Elemental, Doomguard, Floating Watcher, or a brand new Sludge Belcher.
- Worst case! Stormpike Commando, Bolvar Fordragon, Starving Buzzard.
|4 mana target| Defender of Argus or damaged Twilight Drake
- Best case! Mechanical Yeti, Water Elemental, Pit Lord.
- Worst case! Gnomish Inventor, Twilight Drake, Dragonling Mechanic.
|12 mana target| Damaged Mountain Giant
- Two options, all good! Clockwork Giant, fresh Mountain Giant.
|20 mana target| Damaged Molten Giant
- Automatic reset to full health! Molten Giant.
|6 mana target| As per popular request, Inferno!
- Best case! Cairne Bloodhoof, Sylvanas Windrunner (give her the Shadowflames!), Piloted Sky Golem, Sunwalker.
- Worst case! Kidnapper, Mogor the Ogre (But wait... isn't that hilarious?), Priestess of Elune.
Update, December 7th: Trump emailed me that he liked the idea :D
Then, in action !
Update, December 11th: LiquidSavjs getting a clutch Legend 6 win with a slightly conservative version of the deck !
LOL Will do! Have been grinding arena for the past few days ;)
Great deck but no BGH? Not needed?
Is this deck viable without jarraxus? If so, what is a good replacement?
I don't have that either ): My only neutral non-naxx legendaries are rag, geddon, and thalnos, but I can craft another non-legendary replacement.
Agree 100%. Jaraxxus is the best 'oh shit' card for Warlock, even if Alex has a little bit more utility if the enemy is way ahead.
Brilliant deck, the only thing I would take out is the 2nd Ironbeak Owl in place of another Hellfire. Maybe I overvalue Hellfire, but I've seen it do some pretty great things.
Great deck. I had the same idea with the Recombobulator as well but found that 2x is 1 too many. It's a dead card until mid to late game. I'm currently running a list that is:
-1 Recombobulator, -1 Shadowflame
+1 Alexstrasza, +1 Hellfire
Without Sylvannas/Deathrattle/Ancient Watcher/Power Overwhelming shenanigans, I find the Shadowflames underwhelming when you need to clear the board. The meta has seem to gone more aggro and the Hellfire seems to perform better against many decks. If the meta slows down, I would even consider 1x Twisting Nether.
I've also found that Alexstrasza as an extra lifeline on top of Lord Jaraxxus or just to bring your opponent down to 2 hits with giants range to be very effective. Although Dr. Boom, Mal'Ganis or an extra Faceless Manipulator are also worth a look.
I have always wanted to play heavy control like warrior and hand lock, but never had the dust. Now I do, and this great deck list will allow me to play it, thank you!
I can craft most random cards I' m missing, but the big ones I need are 1 molten, 1 mountain, a manipulater, and jarraxus. I know the giants are essential, but how important are the other two? I can craft the faceless if its very important, but is jarraxus a must? If not, what are good replacements for these two cards? Thanks in advance.
What are your opinions on taking out 2 recombobulators for 1 big game hunter (for the current meta) and 1 dr boom?
I personally feel 1x Recombobulator has a role in this deck. It's a surprise that catches people off guard. There are many times where my opponent had for example a 4/4 taunt and a 1/1, I had a 8/5 giant, my opponent assumes I would have to hit the 4/4 and he gets to take out my giant with the 1/1 on his turn, only to find himself facing a replenished 8/8 completely derailing his planned move.
As for BGH, I would rather run a second Siphon Soul. Hard removal with life gain. Late game, a 2 health minion isn't likely to survive a turn. Just my opinion.
I've just been using my handlock deck from like 2 months ago and doing surprisingly well with it. Anyway finally decided to take 5 minutes and update it and so I tried this. Played a few games with it thus far and its great. That 0 cost Soulfire will be missed.
Here you can see me trying out the deck. Thanks Bond, GamesBond for such an amazing deck. Enjoy! :)
Looks like many recent tournament handlocks are running Dr. Boom, which I think is a great value card that fits in almost all control decks(even midrange maybe). What are your thoughts?
I'm missing quite a few cards from this deck, but run a variant which has been working pretty well. Missing Jaraxxus, replaced with Sylvanas. Missing Recombobulator, so I put two Earthring farseer in their place. The real tough one is I don't have molten giants (I know, playing handlock with no molten giants seems ridiculous), so I've been using 1 Sea Giant and a Rag. Sea Giants are tough to get out of the hand unless playing aggro, but there's a lot of that going around these days, so it's *kind of* OK. Including Rag has been really helpful though. Thinking of crafting the Molten Giants for this deck, but wondering if there's a way to keep Rag in the mix, or will he be no longer be helpful once the giant set is complete?
Playing against a lot less aggro than I was, say, a week ago. Only rank 14, but I haven't seen as much aggro since 16. Torn because I'm really enjoying playing the handlock deck but trying to save my dust for missing legendaries. 2 molten giants is half a legendary... I'll probably just craft 'em anyway, they kinda make the deck...
Not running Jaraxxus is silly IMO. The card just wins games.
That wont work. Mountain Giant synergies with your hero power as Warlock while Clockwork only synergies with your opponent. You will see more play with Mountain because you can always ensure having cards in your hand, but not in your opponents.
honestly I don't think you can take out mountain giants. So many times I have played vs warlocks with aggro for example, drop them to single digits only for them to drop mountains giants for 0 and then taunt. There's really nothing like it.
Mountains and moltens are at the heart of what makes handlock decks strong. Not having 2 mountains will really hurt you.
What do you guys think about -2 mortal coil, +1 loatheb +1 sylvanas?
