Come in and Warm your Frozen Boots by the Fire!

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Gunnolf, and I am originally from the Land Down Under a.k.a. Australia. I am an avid gamer that has acquired a real passion for card games, which originated from my humble beginnings as a Yu-Gi-Oh collector and eventually grew from my dabbling in Cardfight Vanguard and Buddyfight, until we reached the game we know as Hearthstone.

I've played Hearthstone since the days of classic, with multiple accounts on both EU and NA servers. Despite having reached the Rank of Legend and my own personal mentality of equating 'having fun' with 'winning', I am not really a fan of meta power-grinding & net-decking, not that there is anything wrong with that. Therefore, I enjoy thinking about new, cool and fun deck ideas that push boundaries while also allowing you to win and those are what I want to share with you guys every-time I post a decklist.

I have presently become a contributing writer to WILDHS and will be posting articles there on a semi-regular basis, regarding deck-archetypes the status of the meta as well as how to get the most fun out of this game even if you aren't a big spender. If any of this sounds interesting, then I highly recommend that you check out of the website, as the writers and the owner himself are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet with great in-game knowledge (link to be website can be found HERE). You can also follow me on Twitter for latest updates.

If you genuinely like my content and would like to see me produce more of it, then please consider supporting me on Patreon. This is by no means necessary but it will definitely help me out in the long run. Thanks for Reading ^^

Deck Introduction

I have been working on this deck for a while but I wanted to wait until BOOMSDAY to release it because of a certain minion that made its debut during reveal season. Others are not too thrilled with her but she was a great addition to the deck, working as sort of a pseudo Aluneth. This deck does not do fantastically against control but so far, I've had a substantially positive winrate against aggressive decks. Therefore, I would recommend this list for counterqueuing when possible. There are quite a few things to discuss when it comes to this list so make sure you read the guide all the way through. Anyway, without anymore ado I present to you Lunar Moon Mage.

Card Choices and Deck-building Explained

In this section, I will explain some of the card choices I opted for and the reasoning as to why they were included over potential counter-parts.

1) Stargazer Luna: Utmost and foremost, one of the greatest cards in the list. Works as a pseudo Aluneth which you can actually drop on board against aggro or just reserve in your hand against control, until you need it.

2) Pyromaniac: Formerly the arcane intellect slot, now this minion with a great set of stats allows us to have a potential draw engine without sacrificing board presence.

3) Forgotten Torch: Great removal spell and allows for additional burn in the lategame as a win condition against control decks.

4) Azure Drake: Spell damage synergy with some of the weaker spells in addition to providing additional draw for faster cycling through the deck.

(At the present time, only a few cards have been listed but I will include more if questions pop-up within the comments section regarding substitutions and why other cards were included.)

The 1-cost Spell Package

Mage has access to a lot of good 1-cost spells that are viable in this deck. To be perfectly honest, after extensive playtesting the following have proven to be the best and most consistent:

a) Arcane Missiles
b) Arcane Blast
c) Magic Trick
d) Tome of Intellect
e) Breath of Sindragosa
f) Ray of Frost (2 for the price of one)
g) Mirror Image
h) Ice Lance

Shooting Star, is a card I am still testing and I am not completely convinced by yet. It is fantastic against odd paladin and some other tokenish decks but overall the results are not promising. I'll keep playtesting and let you know how it goes.

The Elemental Package

Ok, so there are some cards that are elementals can that effectively replace certain cards in this list as they have almost the exact same function, except they provide better stats overall. Now below I will list the cards and their substitutions and subsequently, I will tell you why I chose not use the elementals.

-2x Babbling Book | +2x Fire Fly or +2x Glacial Shard
-2x Azure Drake | +2x Bonfire Elemental
-2x Firelands Portal | +2x Blazecaller
-1x Archmage Antonidas | +1x [card]Frost Lich Jaina[/card

So the cards essentially have the same effects. They provide burst damage, draw and a lategame win condition. However, the reason why I liked the non-elemental package more is because activators are not needed so you are free to dump your hand as you see fit and not have to worry about potentially not activating the elementals' battlecry. SUre you lose stats but what you gain in return is activation consistency.

Furthermore I don't see this deck being to outvalue anyone with the deathknight so I have opted for burn with Archmage Antonidas.

Tech Choices

In addition to the elemental package and list of 1-cost spells listed above, here are some tech choices or alternate card inclusions that you may wish to implement in your deck.

-2x Firelands Portal | +2x Polymorph: Boar: In general I wouldn't recommend this change as you lose face damage and a potential board swing. However, given how prevalent Big Priest has been lately, you might want the transformation option.
-1x Archmage Antonidas | +1x Zola the Gorgon: You once again lose burn damage and an alternate win condition but on the + side you can potentially get more minions resources like Jan'alai, the Dragonhawk and Ragnaros the Firelord.

Similar to the above if you want more transformation options as a tech choice, you can always include Tinkmaster Overspark as well.

Other Aggressive Mage Decks

Author's Notes

This is a super enjoyable mage deck that does pretty well against aggro. So if you feel like having some fun while specifically targeting an archetype, go for it and hopefully you'll have as much fun as I did when making and playing it. ^^

I enjoy deck-building a multitude of interesting decks that are both entertaining and Legend viable (with some odd Free-to-Play lists mixed in). So if you like this deck (or anyone of my other ones) consider leaving a thumbs up, as it really helps in the long run! :)

Thank you guys for all your support and if you have any suggestions, let me know.
