Been having lots of success at high ranks with this shudderwok shaman list! It has been a force against control and agro decks alike. Check out the video above for gameplay and more commentary!
Match up guides and tips
Against agro you will want to have your board clears at the ready, which should not be hard since there is an abundance in this list. Saronite Chain Gang, your Doomsayer, and Healing Rain are also fantastic against aggro, as well as your hexes.
Verses control you want to find your Shudderwock and combo pieces as fast as possible, while being able to remove their threats. Big hunter can prove to be a challenge, but as long as you have your Hex and board clears you should be fine. My gameplay highlights this type of matchup.
An interesting matchup is against token druid, as you will need a small size board (To avoid making their Spreading Plague good) and you will need board clears. You will need more than one board clear if they manage to play Soul of the Forest on their minions. Even Volcano does not trigger the death rattles they have placed on their minions, so you will need a second board clear to finish the job. This is where having small board can be beneficial, as you can clear some of their minions with your minions, triggering the opponent's death rattles, then use a single board clear to wipe out about half their threats. Optimally, you use Lightning Storm so you still have a board of your own or you volcano then hero power for a taunt totem. Either way, you should be out of lethal damage range and should be safe now. As long as you can deal with their boards, they cannot win.
Versus control and cube lock, it is always good to have your hexes and volcanoes ready to deal with their mountain giants and big threats. Hexing their Doomguards is very beneficial as it hurts their burst potential now and in the future. There is oneAcidic Swamp Ooze to deal with their Skull of the Man'ari.
Versus the different types of rogue decks, I'd recommend playing them similarly to cube and control lock, as you will want volcano to clear their boards and hexes to deal with their Hench-Clan Thugs, Edwin VanCleef, and Vicious Fledglings. Zap! is also good at dealing with these threats alongside a board clear like Lightning Storm.
In all matchups, it is important to know what your opponent is playing so you can be ready for certain threats. Also, it is important to note that your hand size can be an issue, as you may often fill up your hand when playing your combo. It is important to prepare for this issue, and begin emptying your hand ahead of time to make room for your shudderwoks. Moreover, another way to solve this issue is to not play Hagatha the Witch in certain matchups, as her hero power is a large part of the problem of having your hand too full.
a little short on dust to finish this. I got the new shaman legendary in a pack though and would like to use her.
I have about 4800, but would need about 5480 to complete this deck... I could maybe dust some things I'm not using though to help with this.
cards I'm missing are... zap, farsight, lightning storm, volcano, shudderwock, grumble, the drakes and life drinkers. I take it all of these are essential for the deck as well?
PS: I'm new to this meta so not familiar with the shudderwock combo. could you tell me what this is please?
PPS: found a thing on the combo so reading that now... it;s between a shuderwock deck and getting the new warlock legendaries and making a horrible control deck... thing is shudder is meant to eat that deck so that's what brought me here... also built myself an odd dudes deck for quick games last night... went 7-0 for my first games in the meta, was fun.
Yea those cards are quite important. Farsight can be changed for another acolyte of pain or other form of card draw that it cheaper. Ive also seen some decks that don't run the drakes. Zap can be teched out if needed. However the other cards are quite essential to the combo, and the board clears are important. Some control lock decks can win but it is quite rare; they either need your combo to misfire (possible but rare) or they are playing cube lock and create too many big threats to clear or burst you with doom guards. But most of the time, shudderwok shaman will win.
I have gnomeferatu's to try and mess the combo up, failing that I would probs loose.
I would like to try one of these shaman decks out, but I need to understand it more before I invest.
haha gnomeferatu is fun but a little inconsistent at disrupting the combo. The combo itself is quite simple; just need to play grumble, lifedrinker(s), saronite chain gang(s), and zola prior to playing shudderwock. It is optimal to play both saronite chain gangs prior so that there is a higher chance that a shudderwok will be returned to your hand. Once the cycle has begun, you can often have infinite shudderwocks to play.
best ladder deck? shudderwoCk shaman!
oh yikes good catch! too many to change, hope blizzard won't mind lol
Zap! is free! Much more flexible and the tempo swings are powerful in the early game. Can also help finish off targets after lightning storm doesn't kill when you don't have the mana.
Thanks! Glad it’s working for you
Sandbinder can possibly be teched in and one Zap! removed, but I find the deck has enough card draw. For better draws, I’ve seen some run Hemet. I haven’t tried this personally, but it does seem good in control vs control match ups.
