Hi friends,
After a short break, we're back with the last half of the budget deck series! Remember, you can find the rest of the videos over here!
I thought warlock was going to be a pretty straightforward build given the plethora of great aggro cards. It was actually pretty difficult to narrow things down! As always, here's our criteria for the series.
Criteria:
- No set dust limit.
We don't want to set an arbitrary number to go by, but still be conscious of how much we are spending and provide downgrade/sidegrade options when available. We also want to generally steer clear of Epics and Legendaries. - Focus on the CORE of a deck.
Let's define the absolute necessities of the deck. Identify what the strongest cards are and build around that. - Have a reasonable upgrade path.Using budget versions of existing archetypes provides players with the ability to spend more dust to have a 'complete' deck. This way, if someone enjoys the deck or has more resources, they get more bang for their buck!
- Prioritize cards that aren't rotating.
A new season is almost upon us and it's a smart idea to avoid crafting those year of the kraken cards. We want our dust to go long AND strong!
With that in mind, let's take a look at the core of Demon Zoolock.
The Core:
2 Flame Imp
2 Kobold Librarian
2 Voidwalker
2 Demonfire
2 Vulgar Homunculus
2 Crystalweaver
2 Doomguard
For an in depth talk about the cards, check out the accompanying video. The core of the deck is mostly our efficient minions and demon synergies.
A Notable Omission:
The potion is a great card, however it is a rare from a set that's just about to cycle. If you have them, definitely get them in the deck. If not, just be cautious about crafting!
The Muscle:
1 Abusive Sergeant
2 Glacial Shard
2 Malchezaar's Imp
2 Soulfire
2 Dire Wolf Alpha
2 Darkshire Councilman
2 Despicable Dreadlord
1 Fungalmancer
To ensure we can get out ahead of our opponents, we bulk up on early game plays. If you don't have Malchezaar's Imp, Blood Imp is a suitable replacement. The Dreadlord has been great with so much Paladin on ladder, though any reasonable 4 or 5 drop will do (eg. Ravenous Pterrordax or Cobalt Scalebane). Feel free to play around with the Fungalmancer and Sergeant numbers too!
Flex slots:
2 Spellbreaker
Like always, include cards that work well against the decks you’re facing on the ladder!
Feedback:
Think this deck is too far out of your budget? Got some card suggestions? Had some good/ terrible luck with the list? Let me know! This project will be ongoing and I'm always looking for ways to improve.
I'm also looking for suggestions on the next deck for the series! You can hit me up here on Hearthpwn or at Twitter.
What would some upgrade progression look like? For example, I took out a Spellbreaker for a Bloodreaver Gul'dan. Does that work? and what else would I do if I want to make this demon deck stronger?
If you take a look at the start of the video, I go through a few great decks that you can work towards. Cutting the Spellbreaker for Bloodreaver is a great choice though!
yes
Absolutely! Try it over the Darkshire Councilman <3
Love your budget decks - really good value for completing quests and things. This one is especially nice since it's over quickly if it all goes wrong!
This deck has proven quite good at the beginner stages. Thanks, man!
No worries, glad it's helped you! Thanks for the support!
I'm a relatively new player, but had already collected a majority of these cards. This deck got me moving along the ladder, finally past that level 20 wall. And the video also helped a lot. Thank you.
That's so awesome, really glad to hear it! You're perfectly welcome and hopefully the other deck's in the series can help out too.
I mean, $20 isn't exactly budget, and zoolock pretty much doesn't work in this meta without Mach's Imp. (Hell it barely works WITH it) Need perfect draws to deal with anything beyond tier 3, and to beat tier 1 you need good draws AND they need bad ones. Just my experiences playing a keleseth variant. Not a shot at you, I actually like the list and want this archetype to work but the other aggro decks are just better, and this isn't fast enough to beat the slower decks unless your draws are spot on. Crossing my fingers for next season though.
I really don't think the word " budget" actually refers to the amount of really currency spent. Generally when the word budget is used it's referring to the total dust required. Although, I could be wrong.
I feel that zoo look has the ability to go far. I believe that it requires some thought rather than laying down demons. Because there comes a point when you're actually doing more damage to your self than the opponent is. And you need to find that balance off aggressive card play and restraint. I like the core of this deck, and as the guide mentions you should adjust your cards to your match-ups.
Well if it doesn't, budget SHOULD take actual currency into account, since if actual currency wasn't an issue then dust wouldn't be either, since you could just buy the packs for the dust.
I'm actually a huge fan of zoo decks, and I absolutely think the archetype (and even this deck specifically) has potential, but so does evolve/elemental/freeze shaman, tempo rogue (post patches) and elemental mage. They're just not quite there yet, and I don't think zoo is either. I mean sure there will be times when you can outplay your opponent, but compensating for a decks weaknesses aren't the same as the deck being good.
I forget who said it, might have been Trump, but essentially the decks just aren't "unfair" enough, unless you high-roll like crazy. Like I said I'm really hoping the next set brings some more diversity to the number of archetypes that are viable after ranks 10 and 5, but as of right now they can't really compete. But hey, the only deck I've uploaded so far is a Big Spell C'Thun Mage, so I mean clearly I'm not against unusual or slightly under-powered decks, lol. The meta does get stale.
Tried this on rank 4, didn't work too well in case I didn't draw perfectly.
I like the idea of budget decks though so keep up the work :)
Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it!
it's tricky to compete at those ranks but glad you gave it a shot, might be worth investing some more dust and upgrading a few pieces!
Good budget deck, where does bloodfury fit in?
Try swapping out some combination of Councilman, Fungalmancer or Abusive Sergeant and see how you go.
As mentioned in the video & write-up, Blood Imp makes a great replacement! Try that out.
If you actually read the guide it said blood imps.
Probably some combination of Darkshire Councilman, Fungalmancer or Abusive Sergeant!
