Don't know where the upgrades are too but if they get 6 or 7 3/3 beasts for 5 mana imma riot XD
I'd guess 3 and 4 since otherwise it'd sound insane, not that 4 3/3 beasts for 5 won't be rather overpowered but at least not quite as much as even more.
See...I have on problem with this:
This is great value, even in unupgraded form and the condition to upgrade it is ridiculously easy. So easy that, in fact, you don't even need a dedicated secret deck to pull it off. JUst a total of 4 secrets should probably be neough to get some decent value out of this.
HOwever, value is not the problem Hunter has. Blizzard keeps trying to give them cards with MORE STATS and pretends like that helps.
We got cards like Corpse Widow, Swamp King Dred, Giant Sand Worm and so on.
How many of those cards see acctual play? Hunter already has all the value he needs from basic and classic cards. What they need is stuff they can actually build new decks with.
LIke seriously, what does this do? Even if you were to upgrade it and play it turn 5.... Four 3/3 beasts means very little at the end of the day. If they have an AoE to deal with it, the effort was wasted, if theyy can just somewhat effectively trade or hide behind taunts it was sort of wasted as well.
I might as well just play a Thundra Rhino or a Corpse Widow and hope they stick around for value.
The only real place for this is in conjunction with Tundra Rhino where you can potentially deal 14 damage for 10 mana....but even that just seems so unreliable since Hunter just doesn't have the card draw to actually assemble that combo consistently.
I've played Quest Hunter for quite a bit and in the ideal scenario it ppretty much does the same thing. Charging a bunch of 3 attack minions didn't usually win me the game...at least not in one turn. Most of the time it was the constant raptor onslaught that MAYBE sometimes decided the game.
Hunter decks will play this for a coupld weeks and then start to drop it for the regular old reliables (or just Scalebane because Dragon Priests)
but hey, Blizzard has already admitted they don't want to improve Hunter because of how it stomps the lower ranks. Hunter will onlny ever get decent cards, never great ones
In terms of just face-value, this seems like one of the better Spellstones to me. It's one of the only Spellstones that's decent enough in it's first form (a trait only really shared by the Druid and maybe Paladin Spellstones). 5 mana for two 3/3 Wolves isn't too bad by itself. Not GREAT, but not bad. Playing a Secret while this is in your hand isn't too bad of a task, but even then it seems a little awkward given that Hunter is still lacking in the card draw department. The upgrades themselves are pretty decent, but all of them get removed by AoE just as easily.
And Priest plays Duskbreaker next turn.
Wow! Very easy to upgrade! Maybe a one-of in Secret Hunter decks in both Standard and Wild modes.
Living mana is even easier to aoe and hunters do not have Living mana to begin with.
I would rather play a 5 mana 12/12 than a 5 mana 10/10 that also loses all of your mana
Honestly, this seems like a pretty average to above-average midrange card because its base form is summon two 3/3 wolves which are beasts, which is not that important but could be, and that's not that bad of a play on curve, but if you get even one upgrade on this, it is 9/9 worth of stats for 5 mana which is a good tempo play, and even after that you could summon 4 wolves, which is 12/12 worth of stats. This card does not even have to be built around and could be consistently upgraded before or shortly after turn 5.
Are they Infested Wolf??
No, no they are not.
No, but you can technically cast Infest on them.
Sorry, I just don't see this as that great a card.
Reason being that most cards run in secret hunter wouldn't benefit 3/3 wolves.
Secret Hunter doesn't run Scavenging Hyena, Crackling Razormaw, Houndmaster, Starving Buzzard, or Tundra Rhino.
Then again I hope I'm wrong. Been wanting to see a unique Hunter deck for a long time now.
It might fit in some midrange deck with just 2-4 secrets. That kind of hunters happened before. Although you are imo totally right, it's not great, just mediocore.
I know this likely sounds dumb...but I was hoping, really hoping...that this would be an aoe for hunter...one that they could justify actually making good because of the upgrade mechanic.
If it's easiest to upgrade then I think this will be better than other spellstones most often.
Aoe is a lot more common now though, 3/3 swarming won't be that impressive if Warlock, Priest, Paladin and things like that take a lead in this set.
Unleash the Kappas? Why not release the OMEGALUL's instead.
The secret to success? More wolves.
