a good card for midrange hunter.
Very Rough Draft, I'm excited to see what you guys think.
This is what I'm thinking for Wild. Eggs instead of Secrets because Kathrena Winterwisp pulling a Savannah Highmane into Feign Death is pretty ridiculous, and Kathrena pulling King Krush with Play Dead pulling a Charged Devilsaur is just nutso.
I think this may see play in hunter decks that are spell heavy. (not a top tier card)
Humor me
Do recruited minions activate their battlecry effects?
Im sorry to anounce that they do not. as they do not get played.
And so, the hunt for a suitable deck begins. Gather your most sizable and experienced hounds, for they will be tested in bringing this elusive "Big Hunter" back... alive. There will be no room for distractions, so leave your petty parrots and precious cats at home. Here, we hunt only the biggest game, and we have some beasts in our sights. Lions, tigers... Dinosaurs! Hell, why not? So long as we carry the right provisions to carry us to the tipping turns, and those shadowy bastards stay off our heels, this game shall be ours!
COnsidering how many beasts there are in the typical hunter deck and how situational they are, the value of this card is probably going to come down to RNG. I want it to be good though.
This is a build around me card. Unless you draw it literally on the last turn of the game, it's very strong. Remember how that 1/1 hastey pirate is good? Turns out playing cards for free from your deck is good. This belongs in a hunter deathrattle deck, and this is the key tempo swing that will likely win games.
I think this card makes Tracking even more powerful. You put in good early game, but when you get to mid to late game, you can use tracking to pick up you're higher value cards that you're going to put in with this one and discard the early game you no longer need. Or if you're drawing nothing but late game, try to do a hail mary tracking for some early stuff. I hope they give hunter some cheaper removal so they can get to turn 8 with style.
I'm so convinced this is going to be a game changer for Hunter. You subtract your early game beasts and you put in spells like Arcane shot (1mana deal two damage) to stay ahead of agro decks. Summoning 3 minions with one card is insane with the potiental of them being huge ones. Following a Call of the Wild after this? Hunter is going to be the next tempo deck. All they need is a solid mid game and we might see a shift in power.
If they do not get any card draw mechanics this expansion this kind of play will not be viable. Hunter won't be able to survive until turn 8 whilst maintaining card advantage if they have nothing to play on the board.
[Prespective]
Battlecry: Summon King Krush
Deathrattle: Summon Swamp King Dred
[Reality]
Battlecry: Summon Alleycat
Deathrattle: Summon Alleycat
(I think this joke is made from Abominable Bowman)
This card is just so random, though with her being a 6/6 for 8 and the effect triggering twice you will definitely get more than enough value. The thing is the effect itself seems somewhat boring, just recruit twice, it's the new mechanic, yes, but just slapping the on the legendary x2 makes it lackluster and bland. My second problem is how strong it is, from ''King Crush'' to ''King Dred'', ''Ultrasaur'', ''Charged Devilsaur'' and a lot more huge things, Just ''Ultrasaur'' alone will make it a 13/20 for 8 which is insane, that's also counting you burn a silence on that and it doesn't pull out yet another huge thing to skyrocket to over 20 attack and 30 hp for 8 mana. This will actually be probably quite consistent and even in very bad scenarios to say getting a 2/2 without an effect twice as a very bad example, you'd still get a 10/10 for 8 unevenly spread over 3 bodies. It's just unfairly and brokenly powerful and not really creative in any way, simply bland and a waste of a potentially more balanced and interesting legendary slot.
This is going to be a broken card that will piss everyone off. But I agree, they just wanted to give something broken to hunter not enough thought went into this. At least the put a beast tag on it?
I hate to be that guy, but her art looks kind of... underwhelming. I mean, come on, it's not that hard to find a better image for a night elf hunter. This one just looks kind of... bad.
Maybe it's just me.
This may be the first hunter legendary I'm actually going to craft
I don't exactly know how good the recruit mechanic is yet, but Kathrena seems like a card that can reward good deck building. There's some serious high roll potential to cheat out a couple sticky or beefy beasts like Highmane or Swamp King--inb4 Big Hunter--but you'll probably be happy pulling out a Grandma or two
How are you unsure about summoning free minions?
Because there aren't many successful Hunter decks in standard rn that don't run Alleycat, Razormaw, and Grandmas as their early game. Currently, Hunter lacks efficient, consistent removal tools to regain board control--outside of Hounds and Toxic combos--and their HP requires them to play shit in the first couple turns to accumulate chip dmg or find good trades thru board. I'd be remiss if I failed to acknowledge how the recruit mechanic can swing board--I know. But, often, you'll pull garbage early game minions which Hunter has to run to even have some competitive chance in any game. I'd like to see to rest of the set and more deathrattle synergy cards before giving my final verdict on Kathrena for this standard expansion. That aside, she's nuts in Wild, is insane with corpse widow/barnes/bonus deathrattle triggers, and is only gonna get better as better beasts are released. just my 2cents
