Hearthstone's Next Balance Update Goes Live on May 22
We've now got official confirmation that the upcoming balance changes will be going live on May 22. When we first got word balance changes were on their way, it was stated we'd see them after the conclusion of the summer playoffs but we didn't think it would be that soon!
Quote from BlizzardUpdate: These balance changes are currently scheduled to go live on May 22 PDT.
The Nerfs
For those out of the loop, here's the nerfs that are coming in the update.
- Naga Sea Witch - Cost is now 8, up from 5.
- Spiteful Summoner - Cost is now 7, up from 6.
- Dark Pact - Now restores 4 Health, down from 8.
- Possessed Lackey - Cost is now 6, up from 5.
- Call to Arms - Cost is now 5, up from 4.
- Crystal Core - Effect now makes all minions in your deck 4/4, down from 5/5.
We've got dedicated threads available to discuss each card nerf.
Nerfs are needed, cards like Lackey, Spiteful, and CtA are 'I Win' abominations that should never have been printed. So what if there is a way to win anyway? the game is shit to play in the current state. Who the hell wants to play a game that ignores every play you make and hinges on drawing a specific card - it's stupid.
Your thoughts are against the grain but actually very thoughtful and provide a good counter point in thinking.
You'll be downvoted. I upvoted you but you'll be downvoted. Sorry.
I understand all the frustation when you play vs a 6 turn Spitefull, the cube combo and CtA on 4, but this is a card game where you always will have better cards than others, you cant print all cards equal. Of course nerfs are needed. If a card just struggles everything of course you should nerf it like it was Bonemare or Crystal Core on Unguro Lunch costing 4. Both rogue decks had reaaly good win rate versus any deck on ladder.
But on this moment, thats not compelte true. You can get a dream 6 turn of Spitefull Druid but get rect by Mage, Hunter, Warrior, Priest or Warlock and Rogue. Almost class´s can deal with it. I named 6 in 9 class´s.
Warlock versus Mage, Warrior and Priest also looses and sometimes even versus Aggro decks if he cant get a good draw.
Countiring Paladin i think it could be pretty hard if they hit CtA on 4 but again, iff you are a control player u alawys have a lotf of tools to counter it.
My point is that u face a meta wwhere you need to study your opponents to climb the ladder. Thats waht pro´s do. If everyone is playing Cube you choose a control deck that beats him , and u have a lot of decks that beats him. The same way for every Top tier 1 decks, u can deal with them. Its like a circle of whi beats who and u need to play smarter when u re not favorite.
Thats why i think the meta is not broken has most people say. You can alawys make a strategy to beat the ladder and thats my point of view.
I accpet all the comments and thanks for all of them. But please say something constructive. Crying is so much easier than figuring out what is wrong about the game. And never forget, this a card game - Yes you´re lucky counts has in everyone other game except chess.
Btw i dont care about downvote or upvotes. I just want that everyone interested in this game discuss´s the game to improve it.
They never printed them tho
Wow! Great Nerfs! Practically every card I was frustrated about will be balanced - and that still in May! (Still missing: Tarim. But that's okay for now)
So laddering might actually be fun (and possible!) in the current season already!
Thanx Blizzard!
I don't really think that Tarim is a problem card. Sure, he is a crazy powerful play, but I think that the real reason that he is so powerful is paladin's ability to constantly have a full board. He's obviously a really crazy good card, but appears to be even better due to supporting cards. Sort of like warlock DK.
Yeah, you might be right. What I feel as unbalanced is the "double-gain" : You not only disrupt your opponent's board (which is okay as a defensive effect) , but you also pimp your 1/1 which is completely turning the tide, especially with all the Silver-Hand-summon-options in wild mode.
So I could understand if they don't touch Tarim. But you can have dreams... :-)
Making the Crystal Core minions into 4/4 down from 5/5 is almost a buff rather than a nerf against priest, making both SW:D and the DK ineffective against their improved board. It makes single minions more vulnerable to the DK's HP, however.
If you're playing Control Priest against Quest Rogue, Shadow Word: Death wasn't going to do jack squat for you anyway. The Death Knight probably isn't even enough to save you, so it's not really a buff.
Of course the battle is very uphill, and SWD is a minor help indeed, but the DK is instead quite strong, being a strong mass removal, or forcing the rogue to not flood the board because of it
Not really true. Anduin's battlecry would buy you one extra turn, but so does -1/-1 as it takes 8 minions to hit you to death instead of 6. However, in that extra turn you will face 4/4s instead of 5/5s.
I mean as a joke it is fine, but seriously, give -1/-1 to any of your decks. Would you still play it?
Keep in mind you need 2 hits of heropower to get rid of a minion instead of 3.
Let's hope for some poorly stated (not 8/8 or higher) 10-drops with powerful battlecries in the next expansion to further "nerf" Spiteful Summoner :)
We will see how things work out on Tuesday
Am l the only one who thinks small nerfs like this should happen more often? I think it's healthy for the game that not every nerf has to be as crippling as e.g. Warsong Commander, and the players that want to play it can still do that to some extend, but find it a bit harder than usual. Everyone happy right? At least in my book. I'm not playing any of these myself except for the Warlock cards, and I'm happy that the nerfs weren't 100% brutal. But maybe l just look at the nerfs in a "healthy gameplay" perspective instead of an "l don't play X deck and it's OP, pls nerf it to the ground because l hate it" kind of perspective. I don't know.
They should rebuff Warsong Commander. Maybe "Friendly minions with 2 or less attack have Rush"?
I expected them at the end of the season.
Still happy to see them coming even as an even Paladin player.
Time to find a new deck!
