No, Expansions are Not Rotating to Wild When Kobolds Hits - How Set Rotations Work in Hearthstone
At this point I personally believe that this shouldn't need to be said, but I've been proven wrong time and time again, so here we go. This is how set rotations work in Hearthstone, StrifeCro. If anyone has friends that don't understand the rotation, send them here to teach them and prevent the spread of misinformation.
- Sets rotate once a year.
- Basic and Classic will always be a part of the core game set which does not rotate.
- Standard format upon rotation is restricted to sets released in two calendar years. (2018 = sets from 2017 and 2018)
- The time at which sets rotate coincides with the release of the first expansion for a calendar year.
- The first set of a year also marks the new name of a "Hearthstone Zodiac" year. (Mammoth, Kraken).
This information is subject to change, but any changes will be listed before the start of a new rotational year. Let's take a look at historical set rotations.
Year of the Kraken
- Started with the release of Whispers of the Old Gods.
- Curse of Naxxramas, and Goblins vs Gnomes cards became Wild only.
- Promotional and Reward sets were also removed.
Year of the Mammoth
- Started with the release of Journey to Un'Goro.
- Blackrock Mountain, The Grand Tournament, and The League of Explorers became Wild only.
- Some cards from Classic and Basic were moved to the Hall of Fame set, a new Wild only set.
Year of the -Insert 2018 Zodiac Here-
- Starts with the release of the first 2018 set.
- Whispers of the Old Gods, One Night in Karazhan, and Mean Streets of Gadgetzan will become Wild only.
- It is possible we could see some other individual card rotations, but nothing has yet been confirmed.
- Things will start out with Basic, Classic, Journey to Un'Goro, Knights of the Frozen Throne, Kobolds and Catacombs, and Set1-2018.
Ben Brode Takes Away Your Deckslots
I need to emphasize that this isn't happening, but with the amount of times we and other sites have posted about the rotation, it seems like a fitting punishment! Especially so when you consider that the decks slots were originally added when set rotations became a thing.
Quote from Ben BrodeAre MSOG , Karazhan, and Whispers rotating the moment kobolds hits or at the beginning of the year? Doing a card review soon and I need some context.
I’m taking away your deck slots
Key Cards We're Losing in the Next Rotation
Here are some pretty great cards we're going to lose when things rotate next year. Goodbye Patches the Pirate!
Are there any cards that you're looking forward to seeing being removed from Standard, or any leavers that make you sad?
we always have wild dude, i still play n'zoth with my dear sylvannas there
RIP Purify. I'll put two in my future dragon priest just to pay hommage to the greatest card ever !
But a player can dream, right?
Even though I play half of those, I gotta be honest, I'm not gonna miss ANY of them when they rotate. Except Evolve. That rotation will eliminate an entire archetype from Standard. I just don't think that's fair. And why did they think Purify was mentionable?!
Purify was too powerful that it broke the 4th wall with it's sheer levels of memes and developer comments because Priest was once in trash-tier when the card was printed.
It was a key card in the memes meta.
For the same reasons why Ticking Abomination will be on the list next year :D
As crazy and wildly powerful MSoG was... I'm gonna actually miss the set in standard.
Yeah it was oppressively cancerous, but boy did it leave it's mark in Hearthstone history.
Have fun in wild lol
The game will be a lot better off with Jades gone. I'm gonna be sad once Pirates become unplayable again, the tribe that needs love.
I know pirates get a bad rap as being "Mindless aggro cancer" but the tribe is one that really needs work. You know how many Pirates are in the game? 20. 20 Pirates in total, counting the ones in Wild. How many Demons are there? 30. There are more Demons then there are Pirates, and the Pirates that are in the game are all about aggro and weapon synergy. Well, it's my opinion that the whole tribe needs a rework. to be less cancer and more enjoyable, as the whole concept of pirate cards is cool.
Strife is a long time streamer. How the FUCK does he not know how set rotations work? They explained rotations ever since Old Gods, and kept explaining how they worked.
You know what, maybe Brode should take away Strife's deck slots. It's just confusing him.
Firebat didnt know how it worked either. It had to be explained to him in one of his videos.
I'm going to go to Wild with my Jade Druid and my Hunter, because the first will be lost completely, and the second one will lose Cats and Fierybat.
RIP OUR LORD AND SAVIOR
I'M IN CHARGE!!!!!!!
Oh, wait, you meant the other lord and savior huh...
Has anyone else had the thought that Classic class cards that have been rotated should be replaced with new ones? I only had it just now, and I'm really surprised my brain didn't have it earlier.
If that's the only "skill deck" you can find then you need your deck slots taken away also. I don't get it, why do people think that managing a hand of removal and draw is so difficult? Sure, it's not easy either but ffs learn some new strategies also. Look at what Savjz and Kibler are playing. Those are difficult decks.
Hunter once-again will lose the only relevant early game it has.
I understand and like how they want to keep things fresh and rotate cards so we can play with new ones and not the same deck over and over again, but the problem with these rotations is that many classes have very key weaknesses in the cards available to them in the classic/basic set.
It sucks that we need every single year to give the same tools, only different, to the same classes. And the bare minimum tools.
Look at warrior now, no good 2 drop. So they will have to EVERY SINGLE YEAR print a new 2 drop for warrior. Hunter has no early game after they nerfed all the aggressive one drops in the game. So we need to get every year our Alley cat and kindly grandmas.
It gets kinda boring and limits design space to some extent. If every year a class needs to get cards to cover up it's flaws it gets less cool cards to toy with. Also when it doesn't get any it is relegated to being useless for a long time.
See how Warlock, Hunter and Priest can just so easily become completely useless if a rotation or expansion is not too kind on them. On the other rand Druid has been on the top since forever. It doesn't matter what it gets, how many nerfs it gets, they have great core cards and then they get good cards on an expansion? Well, they go instantly to top tier.
I feel like hearthstone needs to have a rebalancing on the core set to have the core set of every class be consistent and balanced on their power-level so the palying field is somewhat equal between them.
Some classes got so many crippling nerfs that they just lost their identity on the core set. Look at Warrior and Hunter. Shaman's classic cards are all over the place. Windfury is not a mechanic that is healthy as a class identity and they should replace those useless cards with some actual archetype defining cards so shaman is not relagated to tokens forever.
I just feel like blizzard needs to reevaluate the core set so the rotations can be less brutal to some classes
I am gonna miss basicly every Whispers card :(
And Barnes and Swashburglar.
Play wild and dont miss anything.
Well I don't wanna get recked by 5/5 followed by full board of 8/8 every game.
every game? sounds like you never played wild.
