Iksar on the Inspire Mechanic
Iksar, one of Hearthstone's Game Designers replied to a comment on reddit regarding Inspire being left as underwhelming due to the snowbally nature of it. Iksar responded by saying it's not wrong, but there are different Inspire minions that don't feel this way. Read on!
Quote from IksarHSI feel they left it underwhelming intentionally, because a good inspire minion is a minion that costs two more mana than its printed cost and is a card that has, at least, strength that is about equal to a battlecry minion and it also has the ability to snowball VERY heavily, making it extremely iffy to balance, I feel.All in all, I'm kinda glad they didn't print good neutral inspire minions.
But discover on the otherhand, is a mechanic that was both designed and balanced for competitive-play from the get-go, which is why I really love it as a mechanic.
Part of this is true. Inspire made a ton of sense for the set flavor wise but you are correct when you say the mechanic translates pretty directly to very snowball-y games when it works. Cards like Kodorider are cool, but I don't think anyone is excited about a world where Kodorider is A+ tier and the control meta hinges on who can stick their Kodorider first. There are more fun ways to do this, like Nexus-Champion Saraad or Savage Combatant. Those cards don't always translate into snowballing the board in a way that feels too hard to come back from, but the upsides are still exciting. All that said, Inspire itself is probably the most powerful mechanic in the game just translating what it does into value. Gaining resources permanently for 'free' is pretty bonkers. All new sets bring back old cards that didn't used to see play. I wouldn't count Inspire out just yet, there's a long future ahead!

Joust was a failure. Inspire was alright. Discover is what the game needs because there is strategy involved.
"All that said, Inspire itself is probably the most powerful mechanic in the game just translating what it does into value. Gaining resources permanently for 'free' is pretty bonkers."
I would argue summoning 2 boom bots for no drawback / extra mana cost is probably the most powerful mechanic in the game in terms of value Kappa.
İnspire was completly fail.
Inspire would be alot better if people stopped trying to play decks that focus on killing your opponent in the shortest time possible.
We all know Noxious is the worst when it comes to overthinking his turns. We just watch him for the lulz.
I completely agree that the wording in Bear Trap and Explosive Trap is misleading (to say the least). They should pop at the same time when you attack to the face, but one pops right at that time and the other does it after the hero is indeed slapped in the face with a large trout.
So you are glad they didn't print good Inspire minions, but you like Discover because they printed good minions?
Blizz screwed up and didn't make Inspire or Joust strong enough, but of course they meant to do that right? Sounds like a fan boy.
Yeah that Recruiter is so snowbally. Better to make him useless so that insane 3/3 for 3 value can't snowball out of control. And that Silver Hand Regent, getting 2/2 stats for 2 mana every turn, OH MY, WHAT EVER SHALL WE DO? 3/3 for 3, 2/2 for 2, SO DAM OP, NEED NERF NAO. What a joke.
They aren't hard to balance, they just did a shit job of it. Most are too weak. Even the "king" of Inspire, Murloc Knight is usually only run as a one of, cause even the BEST Inspire minions isn't good enough to run both.
In a world of Shredders, Murloc Knight isn't even that strong. 3/4 is a much worse body than 4/3 with DR stick. The best outcome is 5/4 worth from one Inspire on it, not much different from Shredder who can pull a 4/4 and doesn't need to Inspire to make it happen, it just drops the extra minion with no set up at all.
The fact that Murloc Knight has a slight benefit over Piloted Shredder if it lasts 2 turns and you spend 4 additional mana, is to be expected. That's not really that snowbally, just an appropriate effect considering it has poor stats and so many requirements to get to that point of power.
Inspire isn't hard to balance, Blizz just did a shit job on it. Just like they did a terrible job with BRM Dragons even though it was central theme to BRM. Stop make excuses for Blizzs terrible work.
Couldn't agree more, I really feel like Iksar put his foot in his mouth with that comment about being glad the inspire cards suck. I understand his reasoning, but I also understand bottom lines and the bottom line is if nobody is playing the cards you print then the balance of it is completely irrelevant. TGT was overall a failure; more than half the cards never saw play, they failed to improve Rogue/Shaman, they did not give people the neutral MULTIPLE secret counter card they had been asking for, they did not give people good anti-aggro support, Mysterious Challenger is broken and even the TGT game board is bland.
Oh yeah and Joust fucking sucks. They printed all those joust cards and the only one that sees a little play is elekk. One of the dumbest decisions by Blizzard was making a Joust tie = Joust loss. If both players tie then another card should be drawn.
My mistake, I meant to say "multiple secrets". Also Kezan is pretty horrible, which is why most people don't run it even when the meta is trap happy. I don't think people want to pay extra to "steal" the secret, they would rather have a more reasonably budgeted card that simply gets rid of the secret. It's kind of still to steal a secret anyway, since the whole point is the fact it's a secret, so now the player you just stole it from knows exactly what it is and and can perfectly play around it. To be perfectly honest, what Kezan should have done was convert it into a different secret of the same mana cost.
They gave us this overpriced Kezan, but what people really wanted was a simple flare.
God Noxious is so fucking annoying. His commentary is like a 14 year old kid who wears a fedora and thinks he's deep. Just shut up dude.
Discover = like
Inspire = dislike
For his price, the deck doesn't seem that good. Looks fun enough, but not if you need to craft anything in it...
Noxious generally includes the same RNG-heavy epics and legendaries in all of his decks. If you don't have this 6-8k dust Noxious Starter Kit you won't be able to play any of his decks.
Personally can't stand the guy, his voice, what he says and the crap decks he makes. No idea why this website continues to post this bovzo D-list streamer, no one gives a crap about his videos.
Your opinion, so nobody cares.
They are "for fun" decks, it's way different from "crap" decks.
155.000+ people would disagree with you.
No one also cares about your own opinion as well so that's a nice circle jerk argument you have there..Well done.
His 'fun' deck is a 'crap' deck.
Out of those 155k+ most don't give a shit either way.
He's talks like a child, acts like a child and his commentary is borderline obnoxious i imagine that's how he got his name..He must have thought so himself and embraced it.
Joust needs to win draws. End of story.
