I think Lord Jaraxxus actually messes up your game plan, unless you happen to play it before Bloodreaver Gul'dan. Gul'dan's hero power is clutch late game, imo.
I use it in this fashion too. You can predict with fairly good accuracy what your shortcomings will be against your opponent. Secret mage is tempo reliant so sometimes using it early and finding something to fill out your curve is nice, for example a Firelands Portal for tun 5 when you don't currently have a 5-drop.
I take a lot of grief for it, but I run a Hungry Crab in my Mid Hunter deck, and it works great. I don't have a good answer against Taunt Warrior, though.
I have updated my list to include a Hungry Crab too. I don't seem to have much trouble with taunt warrior. Here is my list for comparison:
