For better or worse, he's an iconic minion from Hearthstone's past, and this expansion is a celebration of everything Hearthstone across the past 10 years.
NOT including him would have been a bigger mistake.

Nah, that might be one of the most absurd things I've seen on this forum. Leroy Jenkins is one of the most iconic, if not THE most iconic card in hearthstone's history. Not bringing him back for HS's anniversary would be like having a Mortal Kombat game without Scorpion and Sub-Zero, or a Rambo movie without Rambo.
Btw, how on earth would a FREE card make Blizzard "soak up the $"?
Just to add after further experience (not to deny my ignorance within the OP); there are handful of charge minions already, I do like the Grom combo set up (was always one of my favorite combos in HS). Though getting a better feel to the Core and Whizbang expansion; the Charge doesnt feel tilted at all. Taunt, and everyone having access to big minions or taunt, or some other form to stop/slow charge game.
I was originally against Rush and banning Charge; then I really got use to Rush (Mr. Crowley please stand up) and started to like what Blizzard was doing with Rush cards as they printed more. A week ago Charge would of been a bigger deal, right now seems decent actually.
I’m baffled by the reasoning here, are you being facetious/sarcastic? If not, do you not think that a healthy meta trumps having ‘iconic characters’ any day of the week, especially from a design standpoint? This isn’t a parade, it’s a game that’s being constantly tweaked to fix chronic lack of balance.
It's pretty apparent in the 72% WR on D0nkey, and while that number will change, it seems a race to the bottom between aggro Paladin and Hunter for the foreseeable future. Really disheartening stuff.
I stand by this idea for both flavour and game design, Leeroy Jenkins effect should be: 'Charge. Start of Game: Summon Leeroy Jenkins and two 1/1 Whelps for your opponent.' It's more like a fool's gambit, instead of a finisher card.
The real solution was to not have Leeroy and Southsea Deckhand in Standard rotation to begin with. I thought a decade ago we all learned that having massive Charge minions vomiting onto the board for OTK's wasn't fun? That's the whole reason Rush was developed and all neutral Charge minions were punted into Wild.

I retract all things. I love Leroy Jenkins, and it's fun.

I do think they are soaking in all that $ though! Especially by making him a free card.

Obviously easy to manipulate people will invest money to get all the other fitting cards for the deck.
*ugah ugah* can go face with rush and buff *ugah ugah*
And others will spend money to counter this or try to "outsmart" them.
But you know it.

I only got to play a couple games last night, and I was stunned that they thought this was an OK recipe:
Leeroy Jenkins + Shroomscavate + Hand Buff Class with massive survivability (Painter's Virtue, Muscle-o-Tron, Outfitter, Buffing / Lifesteal Auras).
