Integrity, honor, sportive spirit, courageous, passion for the game, personal touching...
These values are long lost in a distant past with very few exceptions like me and the OP, now with the internet and other facilities an entire generation degenerates completely into lazyness, braindead copy&paste and the lack of any self improvement auto critique.
Sad, just sad.
I really hope this is satire. Like, it has to be satire, right?
Why don't you play casual then, where is your integrity ? There's more to life than ranked modes. "winrated be damned" you said.
Of all the places where people could have a little more integrity, video games is the least of my concerns, it's the one place in the world where having no integrity is of no consequence.
Winning is more fun than losing, people win for fun not to frustrate you.
And if you made this post, it's not because you have more integrity than others, it's because you are losing with your allegedly fair decks and wish you'd win. But the moment you start winning with your deck, people will say you have no integrity and teach you how to raise your children.
These people are not cheating, they are not taking advantage of anyone, they are playing cards available to them. You are also free to concede against any deck you dislike, I do that sometimes, as you said rankfloor can help. And again, winrated be damned you said that too.
As for your archery story, tell me when was the last time you passed your turn when your opponent was AFK for a turn ? Yeah, right. Winning is more fun.
Take control of your own life, nobody forces you to endure spell mage if you don't want to, it's just a game. If the deck is indeed broken Blizzard will nerf it and that's the end of it, people with no integrity will suddently have integrity again and you will seek other children to educate, most likely children of hyper aggro or tickatus players.
It's been the problem since the game's release. An absolute minuscule percentage of the player base create their own decks, the rest net decks without ever thinking about creating anything themselves. Hearthstone's meta could be insanely fun if people tried things out, but they don't, it's all about pissing others off and picking the most overpowered garbage WHILE emoting every single time they have an insane turn.
You don't really understand card games. I literally never netdeck and i've come up with multiple decks that are very close to popular netdecks. And I still think they are my homebrew decks (they literally are) and I refine or change them multiple times every day to try to figure out the perfect 30 cards combo, while my opponents think I'm a braindead netdecker just because I play a popular deck that has over 50% winrate. I also take inspiration from my opponents decks when I think something looks cool or powerful, and there is nothing wrong with that.
More people than you think try things out, but there's a limit to experimenting for the sake of experimenting. How many cards of the new expansion have you experimented with ? 30%, 40% maybe ? There are some cards you will never try, because you know they're bad or you don't like them (pack fillers etc). Some cards you will never have because you don't have enough dust/gold. We're left with all the good and fun cards we have in our collection. There are nearly infinite combinations of cards yes, but not infinite combination of archetypes, secret paladin is secret paladin even if our decks only have 20 cards in common, at some point whatever you do you will find other players who built a similar deck, even in a perfect world where the internet doesn't exist.
My first deck of the expansion was secret paladin. How could I know it would become a T1 deck at the time ? Should I stop playing it until it becomes a T4 deck so you can feel good about yourself when we face each other ?
Should people refrain from crafting deck of lunacy and try to enjoy it a little bit before it gets nerfed and get a full refund ? They have no reason to.
Very few people build actual meme decks because you don't win with meme decks and if you don't win you don't have fun. Do you know the youtuber MarkMcKz ? He plays insane meme decks in the Wild format. It's pretty fun to watch and you learn a lot of little details about the game, because he uploads the games he win. Now try doing what he does. Try playing 50 unwinnable games in a row on rank silver 10, waiting for the perfect opponent with the lowest IQ and the worst deck ever that will missplay all day long and give you enough time to unload your funny combo. It's just not fun.
And this.
I can pretty much guarantee however that the OP will not read all of these replies, much less consider the points made in them.
I've played spell mage for months, I couldn't give two hoots if you suddenly don't like it, OP. I'm not here to make sure you have a good time. Whatever deck you use, there will be some kid somewhere questioning your morals and integrity over as well. In a community that hates everything that is different to what they personally enjoy, it's very difficult to take any complaints seriously.
As somebody who plays nothing but homebrew meme decks the absolute worst thing that could happen for me in this game is for people to stop netdecking.
The meta gives me something to build around and without it every game would be even more of a casino than it is now. I actively dislike playing against decks I cannot reasonably predict but going against the grain is fun.
50% of the player base playing spell mage is human nature. People just want to win and they don't care about anyone else. A lot of mages when they do busted things that no deck could win against often even emote you to taunt you. They often genuinely think they are better than you. It's human nature.
One assumes that when you come across a deck you created that happens to win a lot of the time with seeming ease, you take your own advice and concede every match...? You know... for "the integrity"... because otherwise your soap box morality rant is pretty hollow and hypocritical...
But I love mage, and it had been quite a while since mage got a viable strong deck. I been playing mage basically at every meta as a f2p, from spell mage, secret mage or elemental mage.
And now finally there is a strong deck and I can't play my favourite class :(
Everybody knows how broken mage is atm. So come over 50% of my games are vs Mage? Do people really care about winning over having intergrity that much? Wheres the challenge in playing a deck that is supposed to win?
If people continue to take advantage of broken shit in the game, the state of the game will stay shit. Have some courage and integrity, dont be a part of the problem, live in the solution. Lead by example. Grow up. Theres more to life than just winning.
I remember watching an Archery competition, and one competitor broke their Bows string and couldnt shoot. The opponent saw this, and stepped up for their turn, but didnt shoot.
THEY HAD INTEGRITY and didnt want to win that way.
Hearthstone needs more people like this, winrates be damned. With rank floors at every 5 and 10, u cant lose too many ranks playing with intergrity.
What would you teach your children to do? Take advantage of others, of broken mechanics, and win at all cost!! Or, teach them about fair play and why it matters?
Just some thoughts for the day from a regular player who loves the game.
I like how you talk but i need to agree with the people that said: I would play the best deck possible.
I dont do that. I always play priest (or value decks, like control shaman in the past or galakrond rogue, even Dknight Druid in that thaaaat past before all the combos and stuff). Regardless of the general winrate. I hate combo decks and burn decks. I don share the joy of winning when you are losing not because of a good play but because you have cards that played in certain turn let you win ignoring the game state.
But i can understnad why people play Spell Mage or Aggro Rogue or Paladin Secrets: Playing tempo is put yourself on risk for the top deck and playing control is put yourself on the risk of missplay your resources. People dont like to take risk because Risk means Lose. The less riskier the deck the more competitive it is and the stronger it becomes on ladder. I dont belive you can tell people "hey play for lose some match and win others" that is not right when they know that this game (and ANY card game, ANY competitive game) rewards you for winning. That is the goal, you can be the most skilled player of the world and play control as a master but you will lose eventually and when you go to the ladder you will lose more (if control dont have broken tools) to your own deck more times that any other type of deck for example.
It's a card game that is being played online, with no betting. Playing broken decks here is not the same as acting in "real life". It's not like mage-players is hurting anyone in a substantial way. I also dislike playing against mage, but calling out their integrity is just weird.

I'm honestly not sure what complainers of netdecking hope to accomplish. All successful decks were somebody's "homebrew" at some point and success brings parity in literally every competitive activity so unless you are asking for something completely impractical and impossible such as individually serialized decks for each individual HS player then you will continue to see this until the end of time.
Well, I played with my own deck until D6, but after lose 100 x to no minion mage, I pick secret pally. I like test decks, but is my choice. If 90% have fun in play with no minion mage, what's the problem?
Integrity? I wouldn't go that far either, it's just a game after all. I agree on the point however, that there's a difference between winning and winning. Everyone loves to win, but the good feeling of a real accomplishment is not there when you win using a deck that everyone agrees on being broken as a result of a design flaw (I'm not talking about strong decks, but clear anomalies like this one). You might as well go and play against small children and win literally every game, still that wouldn't make you the happiest player alive, nor would it be that much fun, I suppose.
As for the question of netdecking on the other hand, in a recent interview Dean Ayala stated that for him as a designer the biggest revelation was the fact that deckbuilding is not a core part of the game experience. It was a sad thing to read and I think it explains a lot...

Some people enjoy playing those decks. Let them have their fun and quit crying!
My dude, come to wild and count the big priests, then you'll know about integrity in HS :)
Overall not a bad point tho, wish we could all agree on it

funny how some people consider them self "honored people" cuz they dont play MAGE DECK IN HS HOLY SHIT

I'll say this once. Keep the insults and faux-cusations out of the discussion from here on.
Otherwise, this thread will be locked.
Thanks.
And here I am playing all demon draw tickatus deck just to burn all mage..
Do I have Integrity? Hell no. I just find pleasure in seeing mages suffer >;)

Playing, or not playing, Mage has nothing to do with one's integrity 🙄
