Im honestly holding my opinions of the new system until the end of expansion. If my gold is less than 5k its shit and blizzard are greedy and bad, if its more or equal its fine.
I wish more people had your patience.
They've already announced that there will be special events to boost XP during the season, so it doesn't make sense to be judging everything until we have more info.
It doesnt matter if i get more gold by the end of expansion imo. 2 weeks into the expansion i still didnt get my free leg from first 10 packs because i wasnt able to open 10 packs. And i am at level 24. Playing 5 minutes every 3 days just to login concede 6-9 games and leave. I want to play the game i enjoy and like, i want to accomplish something everyday.
I can give an example like this, imagine if you were at a job who pays you in total of 90.000 every year, but pays monthly. And then someone else comes in and says , hey we are gonna give you 100.000 yearly, but we are gonna pay by the end of the year. So you are not gonna get any money until the end of the year. It sounds like a profit, but i would highly prefer the 90.000 but monthly over the 100.000 . Thats how this new battle pass feels. Maybe we do get more by the end of they expansion. Maybe it will be better at those times, but i dont care if it costs my entering expansion time because of ridicoulus exp requirements.

This just another nonsense to me. Because if you at level 24 now, you got 1200 gold and 4 darkmoon faire packs.. how could you not be able to open 10 packs? Even if all your 1200 gold is invested in arena or heroic brawl and you insta-lose all of them.. it still 8 packs from arena so you have total 12 packs. Yet you just said you can't open 10 packs.. It's not like you buy the wrong pack right?
Also, at level 24, the reward is still better than the old one. It's only get significantly worse once you reach post level 50. Because after that the exp converted to gold for each level is less than the old system. But before it, especially at level 24, it wasn't at all.
All this number and so-called fact/experience people tell out here is too fake and drive me crazy now..
I get it. You don't like the new system, I don't like it too.. but please.. just keep the fact straight, all right? Because personally, it confused me.
I'm currently at Level 25 and need 3,450 XP for the 150g that comes with reaching Level 26. This represents almost 4 daily quests' XP. In the old system it would've taken fewer than 3 dailies to net the same gold.
While the new system has its flaws, this kind of manipulation is simply ridiculous.
You pretend that weekly quests don't exist. We are talking about 6500 weakly XP, aka ~900 XP per day. That means you are simply ignoring nearly a half of daily XP gain from quests. That means that 3450 XP takes two days (min daily XP is 800XP(min daily quest)+900XP (1/7th of weekly quests) And don't say me that doing weekly quests is too hard. It is no harder than doing all dailies.
I'm just comparing like for like. Will I get the same if I do the same? I agree that many of the weeklies are easy to finish, but they are additional.
That's... not really useful, though. And it's misleading. Especially since all the daily & weekly quests are mostly from a new pool anyway.
In my opinion the biggest flaw in the new system is how often it feels rewarding.
In the previous system you immediately see your gold go up after a quest or 3 wins. This feels rewarding and gets you closer to another pack or arena ticket.
The new system rewards you less often. You get xp for completing a quest.. You see no result from it, until you reach the next level!
And what happens at the end of a season. Say you are a few 100 xp short of lvl 49. You will feel cheated.
This, with respect, I just find extremely childish. Like... people really need this type of endorphin "I gotta see numbers going up every day."? Everything in Hearthstone is pretty much done on 100g increments. So in the old system if a quest didn't give me enough for another pack I didn't really get that feeling of accomplishment. Also a single pack is usually such a small accomplishment in general.
I feel like either a breakdown at the end of the hour, or how a match or arena/duels run contributed to your overall XP gain at the end of a match/run would probably be helpful in this respect, and it'd be *very* nice. But is it actually *necessary*?
Im honestly holding my opinions of the new system until the end of expansion. If my gold is less than 5k its shit and blizzard are greedy and bad, if its more or equal its fine.

I dont think you understand my point my friend. I dont hate the new system because it rewards less or anything. I hate it because i cant play the game the way i want. I cant enjoy the rewards in the way i want. Also I didnt get 1200 gold or something lol. I am not bullshitting i didnt got my 10th free leg. Its correct that i didnt used the arena ticket yet, which i will hold onto but still. If they gave me money instead of those bs packs that they gave us. I would be way more happy then this bs.
A big problem (that y'all mention so well) is how grindy the last levels are and how insignificant quests and playing gets.
One suggestion could be adding a 10g per 10th level (you have) to each quest, making them pretty much 60g guests by level 50. That would motivate people into going for high levels fast rather than looking at their level with dread. They should probably cap it at 70/80g thou.
As you can see, slow decks might get more, but aggro farmers will lose A LOT. Do i think the old system was good? NO, but the new system favors roping and that's even worse. Give both players 4XP per turn they played and give the winner the 400Xp/hour (6.67/minute) as a bonus. This will favor both fast and slow decks, but reward determined playing rather than going AFK.
Just a thought (sure I would love to just gain 3x more XP and 300g/level, cause that's totally gonna happen)

if you are Level 24, you have 1200 Gold and 4 Darkmoon Faire packs. That's 16 packs in total and if you say otherwise, you're simply lying. This goddamn fucking bashing and lying about the pass in this forum is so frustrasting.

They've already announced that there will be special events to boost XP during the season, so it doesn't make sense to be judging everything until we have more info.
It's fairly obvious regular playing doesn't earn as much gold now as before, but maybe those XP boosting events will make up for that. Well, this system certainly makes you play Hearthstone less often overall, like instead of playing for hours to grind for gold now you come back only a week or so, or for events.
And honestly, I don't think that's such a bad thing, considering the game gets rather dull and the excitement for a new expansion only lasts for about a month or so. So I'd say it's good to see my playtime getting more spread over the course of the expansion.
I was pretty hesitant to say something about the new reward system since I understand it is new, but at same time I was suspicious something is not that all right. I probably find out what was that suspicious thing, at least for me.
I am playing since open beta on EU and from Naxx I was starting playing NA and Asia regions too. I enjoyed plaing HS, I had a time and wanted to play with larger collection of cards while remaining F2P. Since then I am playing all servers EU being main, managing buying 40-60 packs (about 30 on secondary regions) per expansion. Back then 4 years ago I had time and dedication to play all three servers because I liked HS so much but now I am 43, priorities changed, but I am still trying to keep up playing all regions but sometimes its pretty hard with schedule.
I usualy play HS once per two or three days on each region, mainly to do dailys which are cumulated and I spend at average 3-4 hours on each server per week. I play mostly midrang-y tempo decks, do Brawls and enjoing game, playing honestly no quiting. If I do feel like it I play without quests and sometimes I am missing few days on quests.
When new system came out I kinda panicked inside and did not know why, but I decided to keep up and stay focused. But, today I am laying in bad, I finished my Qs on EU, thinking about where I will put my playing window in Sunday schedule, feeling littlebit anxious about not keeping up.. Then I looked at Journal again and it struck me in the face. I managed to keep up rotating and doing daily quests but I have all three weekly quests unfinished.. So does it mean I have to spend MORE time in game than in previous reward system?! I was planing finishing my Qs on secondary servers this Sunday here is current look:
EU (20 lvl, 2335xp, Tavern pass) HeroPower 5/20 weekly: Ranked 6/7, Win B-BG-D 1/5, Play battlecry 26/50
Asia (lvl 17, 1530xp) Challenge friend, Play games 0/3, Play tavern brawls 1/3 Ranked 3/7, Win B-BG-D 0/5, play battlecry 23/50
NA (17 lvl, 1818xp) play Dragons 0/12, Hunter.Mage.Paladin 2/3 Ranked 3/7, Win B-BG-D 1/5, Play battlecry 20/50
If I would finish my dailies as usual, I will still have at least Win 5 Brawl-Battlegrounds-Duel which is best one for me from that slot (correct me if I am wrong please), since I don't play BG or Arena and even that I would still have some of my weekly Qs for constructed opened. On NA I play Highlander hunter with dragons, so its like 2-3 games, on Asia I would have to reroll Brawl daily and have also like 3 games but situation is similar. Main thing is, I would like to finish my daily Qs and I am not feeling like playing this week.
So I am doing nearly "just daily quest" on each server. I am spending as less time ingame as possible, game is fine just because of IRL. Is new xp system good for me? Because it seems like the system is telling me to spend more time in game. There are two limits for me. I would like to have 40 packs per expansion as I used to have, and I would like to spend exact amount of time in game as I do now, since it is balanced with my life. It is 4 hours per server per week for me max.
With the old system I manage to get 4-5k on EU server and I was surely missing some daily Qs time to time. I think maximum gold was 7800. Also I think there were some free packs at start of the previous expansions, so I opened about 50packs on EU and 30 on secondary regions. With the new system I would like to get to level 44 minimum. I will get 4050 gold, 5 Madness packs and 5 older packs, 2 Tavern pass which is 2 packs for me, 2 legendary and 1 epic. It is 140900 xp total.
So there is 17 weeks for expansion. 4 hours per week equals 27 200xp (4x400x17) abadoning 1 secondary weekly quest is 72 250 ((2500+1750) x 17) All daily quests are 5,6 to 7 but I miss and often reroll so 5500xp realisticaly, 93 500 Together it is 192 950xp which is good enough to reach level 49. This should be 1500 gold plus expectation
This is nice, but it is at cost of few minutes per week more then I used to be.
Conclusion I am probably extreme example since I try to run all three regions, but somone who is playing Hearthstone just for daily quest might fall in same category. As I look at the numbers, the requirments for me shifted from "do not miss daily Qs" to "do not miss daily Qs AND finish 7 weekly wins" which suprisigly for me you can finish all daily Qs in current week and not complete 7 wins or other weeklys. For active player probably nothing special. For me, it might be aproximately 30 minutes more of gameplay per week per server. I feel like Blizzard offered sligthly more stuff with new reward system, but also 'asked' for more minimum time spent ingame. And there is gap or at least difference if you are playing on the edge of minimal our spent per week, respectively you miss out weekly quests. (at least for my gameplay)
I am extreme sleepy and made this on the fly. Hope it make sense amd numbers are correct :)
Just what he said. Weekly quests are a lot of xp, but some of them really force you into the game. play 10old gods legendaries? I don't even own an old god yet? Play a full arena run? I hate arena. Which means the people who just log for dailies every 3 days now also gotta log daily JUST so you can reroll the weeklies that force BGs down your throat. The new system turns playing HS casually into a chore.
You have to consider that a primary goal of businesses of this nature, social media etc are to INCREASE your engaged time.
I keep seeing people complain they will have to spend more time to max the rewards out and yeah, that's the fucking idea. Social media platforms employ all sorts of tactics to increase your overall engagement and screen time and OBVIOUSLY devs will want players increasing their screen time.
There is nothing greedy or abnormal about this. Its absolutely normal and I've seen it in plenty of other games.
Fifa is SO much more time consuming than HS. Their battle pass equivalent and reward system is far more of a grind and needs more hours. I play fifa more than I do hearthstone and season 1 of their system recently finished and I was still a good 5 levels off the end of the track.
I play HS on my phone mainly and currently playing an hour to 2, maybe 3 on some rare days, I'm level 34, almost 35 and haven't felt stressed or concerned about it in the slightest. I'll login and if I'm almost St a new level by the time I'm ready to log off, I'll usually stick around and play a few more games to tip me over. That's precisely what they want from me. I understand this and I'm OK with it, it IS their prerogative. If I was ever not on with it, I would decrease my play time or stop playing all together.
I'm sorry if you don't like the new system, whether it's the feel of it, the rewards or how it works but some of us do like it. I personally prefer it and yes, it has forced up my engaged time with the game but that's fine, I'm spending a bit more time in Hearthstone and as a result may end up buying the large pre order bundle, because I'm that bit more hooked in. If I do that then they have achieved exactly what they wanted to.
This game, like a lot of other companies and businesses, has to adapt and grow. It can't stay stale, they need to get those people who play for half an hour, to stick around for an extra half an hour and so on and so forth. They've upped the input and what you can do in this game by loads. That obviously comes with increased costs and a desire to increase profits.
No business just sits and says "let's make what we made last year!". They are constantly looking to grow and increase profits.
What this game suffers with however is (seemingly) a lot of free players. It is not your 'right' to access any product or service for free. They will obviously want to convert you from F2P to some form of paid engagement. Whether that's a pre order bundle, the welcome bundle, card packs, whatever. If you have never paid a penny, play casually and never intend on paying a penny then you are at the very bottom of the consideration pile. Sorry you don't like that but you simply are.
Free to play gaming is a bloody privelage. Until recently the idea of this just wasn't a thing. You paid £60 for your single player game that gave you about 20 hours of content and you moved on to the next one. You're fortunate to be sitting and playing a game for free and having the time to go online and complain about it, like it's the biggest problem in your life. There are millions of people in the world who would happily swap stresses and priorities with you.
It's not a chore, stop being so melodramatic. Read back what you've said here. Just reroll the damn quest for crying out loud. The roll system is there because they know you will get quests you don't want or aren't interested in.
If you honestly can't wrap your head around this then I don't know what to say. Life must be really fucking tough for you. The world does not revolve around you as an individual, you're just not that important. Sometimes things aren't exactly the way we want them but that quest you personally hate? Someone else has completed it and probably enjoyed doing so. So if you don't like the quest, reroll the damn quest and stop being such a snowflake.
"Waaaaa my card game quest isn't what I want, waaaaaaa, it's so unfair I have to play this game and have to do some things I might not enjoy waaaaaaa"
Think how this sounds to a regular functioning adult haha, it's embarrassing.
You sure blew this out of proportion. I'm just saying it asks more of the casual player than before with no noticeable gain, ergo a worse system.
What's your damage, dude?
I mean if you log in every 3 days, that's still 2 resets. That's probably enough to get rid of quests you don't like. So I think overall it's a pretty frivilous thing to bring up as an issue.
But it's still good feedback. But the system forcing you into gameplay types you maybe don't play is probably something that...
A) Should either give more substantial rewards since it is basically kind of a promotion. B) Maybe should occur less frequently than other quests.
I love the way blizzard defenders keep bringing up fifa. EA is the godfather of game ruining, predatory monetizing, tone deaf hacks. The fact that you even make this comparison shows how out of reality you are. I have been a blizzard customer for more than 2 decades. I always felt blizzard was one of the best gaming companies. The last few years have really changed that opinion, to the extent that I doubt I would buy another blizzard product.
I am 3 days into hearthstone rehab, I still do my dailies and I imagine I will make time next weekend to complete the weeklies, but if you told me I had to uninstall tomorrow I would just shrug. The game has fallen that far.
Wow, I'm actually shocked at the self-awareness of this thread.
People seem actually willing to admit that the reasons they are complaining range from "I don't like not seeing my gold count go up every day" to "GASP! Blizzard is forcing me to actually play the game". They seem willing to at least tacitly admit that we have no reason to believe the reward system will result in less gold over time, despite several people saying "it's widely accepted" as if that means fuck all.
You may think that summary is overly flippant, but read the individual posts, and the vast majority fall into those two categories cleanly.
I'm genuinely impressed.
Btw, I'll just preemptively note that not a single word was said about Blizzard here, so don't trot out the "defending Blizzard" trope. It has no place. I'm paying a compliment to this thread's surprising honesty.

Helpful Clarification on Forbidden Topics for Hearthstone Forums:
Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.

I think what we see here is the rage of missing the option of farming and the realization that you didn't care that much about gold farming before anyway. I play a lot of arena, so I might even get more. Then there is the ladder, where my every second month aggro climb suffers, but then my following meme fiesta will be rewarded. Could be the same result, could be better and maybe just a tiny bit worse.
You sure blew this out of proportion. I'm just saying it asks more of the casual player than before with no noticeable gain, ergo a worse system.

No damage, it's just conversation..... My reply was also more in a general sense to the absolute over the top melodrama that has followed this pass. Problem is, everyone expects their individual need to have been catered to and there's so much misinformation flying around from armchair mathematicians that condradict each other.
Maybe if everyone took a week, experienced it, discussed it civilly and was then able to provide constructive feedback then things would work a bit better. The tone and attitude of the complaints though have been an utter disgrace. The insults and vitriol levelled at people just trying to do a job is not OK. This method of communication is not OK.
The response was also deliberately exaggerated to match the tone of the wave of crying that's been going on. That you took instant issue with it just shows my point and you should be able to at least see where I'm coming from. My response to you is basically a huge chunk of how most posts and threads on here recently have been from my perspective.
If you don't feel the system works for you, that's fine but your complaints are diluted by other points that are easily addressed, like just rerolling the quest, that it's then difficult to take your overall points seriously.
Whether you like the system or not, Team 5 have implemented what they think would be a better, more engaging system. Maybe they didn't consider certain things, fine. A good community can work together with devs to address these sort sof things. They maybe effed it right up but it's come from what I am willing to assume is good intentions, for both their player base and obviously a business stand point. If they have screwed up completely then I'm sure they will want to rectify that.
But chucking in asinine complaints about being unhappy over a specific quest etc is, as I said, just diluting the pool of feedback and causing it to descend into a noisy mess. I have no idea how to fix this system based on all I've read because there's no consistent, coherent feedback. Everyone's just pissed off for either wrong reasons, wildly different reasons, factually incorrect reasons and there are a legitimate number of complaints within this but it's hard to tell what is what.

That's... not really useful, though. And it's misleading. Especially since all the daily & weekly quests are mostly from a new pool anyway.
They should probably cap it at 70/80g thou.
here's a calculator you can use btw https://mytherin.github.io/hearthstone-reward-calculator/
EU (20 lvl, 2335xp, Tavern pass)
HeroPower 5/20
weekly: Ranked 6/7, Win B-BG-D 1/5, Play battlecry 26/50
Asia (lvl 17, 1530xp)
Challenge friend, Play games 0/3, Play tavern brawls 1/3
Ranked 3/7, Win B-BG-D 0/5, play battlecry 23/50
NA (17 lvl, 1818xp)
play Dragons 0/12, Hunter.Mage.Paladin 2/3
Ranked 3/7, Win B-BG-D 1/5, Play battlecry 20/50
4 hours per week equals 27 200xp (4x400x17)
abadoning 1 secondary weekly quest is 72 250 ((2500+1750) x 17)
All daily quests are 5,6 to 7 but I miss and often reroll so 5500xp realisticaly, 93 500
Together it is 192 950xp which is good enough to reach level 49. This should be 1500 gold plus expectation
This is nice, but it is at cost of few minutes per week more then I used to be.
Conclusion
I am probably extreme example since I try to run all three regions, but somone who is playing Hearthstone just for daily quest might fall in same category.
