I have played Hearthstone for three years straight as a f2p. I managed to have 1 or 2 meta-decks every expansion by completing my dailys and playing a lot (hit rank 1 twice). However, I have now quit Hearthstone for more than two years. Would it be worth to get back into in these weird times, also for a f2p? I am looking forward to reading your reactions.
Probably the best time to get back into Hearthstone for years. You'll get a free deck after completing some 'welcome back' missions (pro tip: take the mage or rogue one), next week the new demon hunter class unlocks with everyone getting 30 class cards as well as a complete DH deck, and the yearly rotation is just around the corner, so there won't be as many cards you're missing.
Also, ranked is getting a makeover that will give out more rewards, and daily quests have gotten way better: no more 40g quests, majority of quests are 60g, and you have to do less to complete them. Oh, and the new duplicate protection rule which means that you won't get duplicates before you have all cards of that rarity (so, you won't get the same common ten times and the same bad epic over and over).
I would say when the expansion launches, give it a shot. I had a 1 year break and came back in the beginning of the current expansion and played it casually and found it quite fun.
I have been debating this myself. I stopped playing a couple expansions ago, and this latest expansion has me tempted again. I went ahead and got the free mage deck, and I've been having fun climbing the lower ranks with it. I always have fun playing the game...my problem is that I don't play enough to earn enough to really experiment with different decks.
I don't want HS to be the only game I play, and I don't want to spend money on pre-orders anymore. I have always been dissatisfied with the cards I get from pre-orders as my luck with pulling useful legendaries is abysmal.
Still, I have enough dust and gold saved that I'll see what is a fun deck and craft it. I also have some Wild decks that may only need a few new cards, so I may chase those as well.
TL;DR, I'll be playing a little and staying in touch with the game as Blizzard continues to announce changes this year. I don't expect the game to change to fit my lifestyle, but I don't see spending any money or significant time on the game unless I get more for my money.
Like Riot's autochess, Teamfight Tactics, their card game Legends of Runeterra is utter trash that will be forgotten in a year. This is from someone who has been playing League for over 5 years.

Ehhhh - that all sounds enticing but did you forget to mention that the game has removed basically all strategy & thought and replaced it with extreme high rolls, instant win cards, endless discovery, endless card draw, endless game saving "answers" being pulled out of ones butthole, unbeatable Galakrond decks(at least for a few classes), and more amazingly hilarious BS than you ever thought possible? Of course, you can be a wuss and abuse a broken deck and grind your way up the ladder but theres no fun in that at all. No skill required to do this though so have at it. For a real "treat", try Wild where its Pure cancer mode with Waygate/Secret Mage or some variation of unlimted resurrect Priest. Its more fun to nail your testacles to the table than play against those decks.
Sure - come back if ya like but do NOT spend a nickel on this slot machine. Stay 100% free of charge and accept that 99.999999954% of games are decided by things way out of your control. Once you accept that then its not too bad. Enjoy. Just stating the facts. :)

agreed. OP, be happy that you were able to quit this game and spend your time and money on something else. I stopped playing for 2 months now and I definitely won't come back to this trash rng clown fiesta game for a while.
Great time to back into the game. Blizzard is giving us a new class and an expansion that looks better than the entirety of the Year of the Raven! Have fun making decks, I’d recommend just avoiding wild.
Top players are still top players. The game always changes, and with every change, there's those that can't adapt. These players always blame the game. "It's only RnG now", "it's all mana cheating"... Yet good players still win much more consistantly than bad ones. Top streamers don't get so many views because they're soooooo good looking, I'll tell you that much... I understand, it can be really hard to adapt, but when you troll message boards complaining, no one believes it's the game... you just sound like a poor sport, and poor player... Work hard to adapt, or stop playing. Whining won't solve anything. Most players enjoy the game, and the game will continue to evolve. They will never freeze the strategy in the one meta that worked for you, so get over it.
Dear Hearthpwn community,

Kind regards,

Yeah, you get a free deck and the whole basic demon hunter set. It's worth at least logging in and playing a few games
Now would probably be the best time to come back since you're getting a free deck and there's the new class to try.
Yes.
No it's fucking trash
Play legends of runeterra instead of this unbalanced uninteractive piece of crap
And yet ... you're on the hearthpwn site because... ?

Honestly I wouldn't want to try a game if my first interaction with its player base is this...
You successfully gave up your addiction… stay on the wagon.

No, not at all, better try the new Legends Of Runeterra or anything else worth your time and money.
I would say that this is probably the best time to get back to HS. It's probably the best time to start playing since launch of the game.

Now with the new class and rotation is the best moment to start hs. But you are going always to have a gap of a year cards missing.

if you can adapt to the massive bullshit thrown into your face, sure. maybe you grow resilient to constant dickpunching
ranked updated ladder will probably fix it to some degree as well, not getting blown out that much as a new/returning/f2p player
good luck out there :)
