I forgot there is no 31st September, so after realising it I tried to go after rank 5 to get the golden epic for free. I was rank 8. I spent 4 hours and had no luck, reached rank 6, was absolutely frustrated and devastated.
This led me to understand I no longer get the fun out of the game. I play so I can get more cards, but that doesn't lead me anywhere close to having a tier 1 deck as in the past I was donating, and a stash of 5k dust just sits there. I am greedy to use it.
I found several threads like these just the day before yesterday and wanted to share my experience. imho Grind = addiction. It's better to get a better life and donate the money, because 1 working hour gets you more money to buy packs then 1 hour of grind. Get help, be strong.
It's better to get a better life and donate the money, because 1 working hour gets you more money to buy packs then 1 hour of grind. Get help, be strong.
Never EVER **EVER** work on a game in order to have fun. Work at a job to have fun later. Work in a game when you enjoy the grind, when the grind, to you, is fun.
But if you are playing a game and you are not having fun in some form RIGHT there there is something wrong and you need to STOP what you are doing and reevaluate your situation.
Myself I have many things that I can do when I'm not busy. I can play Hearthstone, Fire Emblem: Heroes, or MTG Arena. I have other smaller games I can get into as well if I choose to. I can watch videos on youtube, listen to music, or watch one of the many shows and anime I have on that neverending "watch someday" list. I bet you are similar.
And if you are similar, if you are not doing something that is important to you, such as a job, a career, education, training, meeting with others, caring for your household, excersizing ext, and you aren't doing something enjoyable or relaxing like a game you are having fun with or a video you enjoy or music or going out or reading or resting....
If you are doing NONE of those things and are doing something you aren't enjoying in a way you enjoy it that's NOT important.. stop. just STOP.
This is actually why I never care about my rank. Focusing on ranking up is not FUN for me. It's not earning me money or making me healthy or forming a social connection and it's not fun or relaxing or enjoyable. That it can get me more cards is worthless then. Why work in a game for fun when I can just go play a game that is fun now?
Hearthstone is fun, but only when I'm playing decks I want to play. I don't care if they are homebrewed or netdecked so long as I find them interesting. I like tweaking decks to try to improve them and get bored when it becomes clear how good the deck can be (whether good or bad). I don't care if my opponent plays the same decks over and over so long as I can change up how I face them.
If I open the game and realize that I'm not interested in playing, I'll shut it down. Even if it means not switching a 50 gold quest. Even if it means missing a quest since I already have 3. If I honestly cannot 'keep up' with the amount of play I want to put in then the game isn't worth 'keeping up' and it's time to move on.
The money I spent and time I spent was for the enjoyment I had in the past. If I leave today that money and time wasn't wasted as I enjoyed the 4 years I spent here so far. If I didn't then I BETTER stop playing because when you are wasting time you STOP wasting it.
There are situations where you need to struggle and push through bad times, when you have to put up extra effort and struggle when you'd rather not bother. Your hobby is NEVER one of those times. Pros that do so in games like this aren't playing a Hobby, they are working a job (literally: they are making a living doing it). If Hearthstone is going to be your JOB or your CAREER then yes push hard, fight through the boredom and salt and play anyway because it's Important to you (yes, a 'children's card game' can be an Important Career for you. Welcome to the real world where entertaining others with something you can do well is valued enough to pay the bills).
If this is not you then it's a Hobby, so stop. just STOP. Shut this page down. Shut the game down. Go back to the home screen or desktop. Click on the icon that you find FUN. If none of them, shut the thing down and go do something you enjoy.
If that = nothing, GET HELP.
If you know what you'd rather do (or Should be doing) and you can't stop doing what's not fun or important, because you feel you 'have to', GET HELP NOW! I'm not being trolly. I'm serious. It's a problem. You can't fix it yourself. GET HELP NOW!
Otherwise, just stop and enjoy what you are doing whether that's Hearthstone at Legend, Hearthstone at rank 20 meming it up, or in another game or with the computer/phone off. But go do it.
It's better to get a better life and donate the money, because 1 working hour gets you more money to buy packs then 1 hour of grind. Get help, be strong.
*So much stuff*
I agree with what you're saying, but man was it a long read.
TL;DR: If you're not having fun right away. Go do something that will allow you to have fun right away. Trying to find the fun is work, not play.
Just play some of the other modes with the grind starts to get to u . And if u want more cards your gonna have to use that dust . Best bet is to craft powerful Classic cards since they will stick around forever unless hall of famed . If u craft make sure its a card that is useful and can be used in many different decks . Like Lee roy , Harrison jones, Alex, Malagos for starters. I quit for a couple years Been playing since beta , the grind is more fun to me when I make my own decks and they work out . Thats when the grind is at its peak for me . Good luck
while yes there is RNG/luck in hearthstone, more often than not people would rather just blame RNG for their loss than admit their mistakes and learn from them, this is why some people never get any better at certain games they play because they refuse to believe their doing anything wrong and this goes for other games too, not just hearthstone.
Well Blizzard is using Gamification to lure the players into it. I mean reading Amber chronicles seems more fun or rereading Overlord, but you don't get cards for those activities ) see what I mean? Yeah it's better to STOP.

Yeah, I have a hard time cutting down what I say without losing the point.
You did a good job of it so, yeah, everyone else, ...^this. Very much This.
the game is 90% luck and only 10% skill .... its not funny if you are like me (the most unlucky bastard in the universe)
I used to think the same, but it's not the case. Consider all the things you're missing. Watch back your replays and see how many mistakes you instantly spot. Are you tracking the enemy's hand? Can you predict the entirety (or majority) of their deck? Can you predict their turns? If it was 90% luck, the players consistently hitting top 100 legend are pretty damn lucky eh.
I am afraid that is also unreal to play this game for fun. I have 2 accounts, 1 at rank 4 2nd at rank 15 now. All i face is Zoo, Odd, Burn Mage, Druids(token, maly) Shuderwocks/even shamans and odd paladins.
And when u try to play with fun decks aginst all these decks, you will get crazy :) Cause u are dead at turn 4 or they out valueted u so much that u just lose
True, they just need to implement Tavern Casual mode with changing rules for constructed decks (like only rare cards, only 2 epics, or all legendaries, you can pick any cards (even missing ones)). That would be fun, too much fun, but Blizzard will lose money.

Hearthstone is a casual game, based on more luck than skill. only a solid grind can get you higher, kid.
like I said, said every bad player ever, kid.

In fact I'd go so far as to say that's part of what keeps them bad, The more factors you are think down to luck the less likely you are to actually look at the factors that do effect win rate, because you're simply not paying attention to the correct things. Such as always play to your outs.

First off, if it's taking you 4 hours to reach rank 5 and you still can't make it. That's has nothing to do with luck, you are just bad and that is what you need to accept.
Your second point makes some sense, you are no longer having fun and think donating money is something you prefer. But in the same breath you complain about not having a tier 1 deck while sitting on 5k dust. That is absurd. Just craft a good deck already and stop complaining. You could make 2 or 3 good decks with 5k dust. That is your fault.
I agree. The grind in hearthstone is shit. The fact that people don't believe a good game can exist without a grind is telling. Most modern games are bad by design just to hook you into the feel good moments a grind offers when they occur. But that doesn't change the fact that your first two points are flawed. You are a bad player complaining about not having a good deck despite the fact that you have more than enough dust to make a couple of tier 1 decks. That's a fact son.
It's better to get a better life and donate the money, because 1 working hour gets you more money to buy packs then 1 hour of grind. Get help, be strong.

Hearthstone is a casual game, based on more luck than skill. only a solid grind can get you higher, kid.
If you actually need to grind, then you are either bad or top 500 legend already. The fact of the matter is, there's people that can consistently reach legend every season in ~50 games. If HS is such a luck game, then that would be impossible. There is no grinding required if you know what you're doing. Git gud, kid
the game is 90% luck and only 10% skill .... its not funny if you are like me (the most unlucky bastard in the universe)
i hate to reak it to you bro, but all card games have RNG. the players that are "better" at these games, know how to calculate %'s for their draws, and they know what possible cards their opponent has. Then they make decisions based on that info. Yes, you can go on a bad run just as easily as a good run. The difference is in what you do with the % of influence your choice make. Learn or die. That simple. (or stay stuck at rank 19)
