I am a little bit disappointed to finds that a mechanic didn't appear to work as expected.
I had an Ixlid, Fungal Lord in play. I then played The Darkness. According to Ixlid, since I played The Darkness, it should now summon another copy. Now, I don't expect the battlecry to happen twice, since that is obvious - but why didn't it summon a second copy of the minion that I played?
Hmm - though that would imply that The Darkness is a spell rather than a minion - since it is played as a minion, I would expect the "play" part to still come into effect for Ixlid.
Thats just my opinion of course - it is what it is, I guess.
The dormant state is an "object" rather than minion, like the Nether Portal, so as it can't be destroyed it also can't be effected by anything which classes it as a minion.

I think it's pretty stupid, but that's how it is.
It would have been better (if this is the case) to make the card a spell like the portal that "summons The Darkness" after 3 candles are snuffed, I think.
Dormant permanent are considered a totally different type of items from minions so they don't interact with any effect at the moment. The card itself anyway is a minion as long it stay in your hand and deck, it only turn into a "permanent" when it hits the board. As a permanent it just fills a slot on board but nothing more currently.
I can totally see why one would think that this should work, but i guess that what actually hits the board (after the battlecry phase) is technically not a minion anymore (since it starts dormant), so Ixlid has nothing to trigger from.

It's not a minion or a spell. Apparently we have a new 'type'. It's a "permanent" .
Permanents are 'things' that can't be interacted with at all. They just take up space.
The card itself is technically a minion so you could, for example, buff it with a handbuff effect. Once it leaves your hand, it's a permanent similar to how 'Charge' and "Taunt' aren't battlecries but just exist on the creature.
something tells me that the Darkness is more of a proof of concept than anything else: a way to play around with the effect and get us used to it before it shows up in other cards later (say, a taunt minion that's dormant on the player phase, or a minion that's dormant if 2 or less minions are on the opponent's board).

Well we already had 2 dormant cards in un goro but it looks like the majority of the player base still has no experience with them.

What gives? What did I miss?
My guess is that since the Darkness turned into a permanent, it no longer counted as a minion, therefore it wasn't copied by Ixlid.
because this is a 4 mana "do nothing" card
Dormant cards cannot be interacted with in any way, i think. They just occupy a board slot until awakened.
Same reason why recruit warrior and big priest didnt include this minion.
Starts dormant is a passive effect not battle cry
It’s battle cry is add 3 candles
in fact you w

You play it, but as a dormant card, ixlid finds nothing to copy as its target.
I think your idea should have worked, because for example, you can summon it with medivh weapon, therefore is a minion even if it is not activated.

For what profit is it to a man, if he gains the world and loses his own soul?
