I get what you mean but look at Overwatch, takes ages to get 1 golden weapon. a full golden deck in hearthstone is for either pro players or very rich people. tough in Overwatch you cant buy the gold weapons you just have to play huge amount of time.
I guess I'm very rich then. with a 90% complete golden collection. I opened 350 packs on release day and have the whole set. got plenty of golden cards and the few legendaries I didn't get I made them gold because I can. If you think 220 bucks is a lot of money then I'm sorry but that's the way life goes. either pay or sit on your a$$ all day and play. I enjoy the art of the game and the card emotes are hilarious. I've played since beta and I have everything in the game. Gold cards are for status man, just like my legendary card back, 9 gold heroes and any competitive deck I want to play, fully golden. I used to multibox 5 accounts in WoW and paid 75 a month when I had that kind of time but I can't justify that anymore because my time is worth A LOT more. Considering I drop 200 in a restaurant for dinner or 1000 on a new phone everything is relative. People who can't afford will always hate those that do. Don't complain because I can WASTE 90 bucks on a steak or WASTE 220 on a card game. I love how the haters say WASTE as if the drugs and Cheetos they buy aren't a WASTE of money... Good Luck and may your monthly rank 5 fill your golden card deprivation so you are not so mad at the world.
I don't care about golden cards and only few have animations that actually look "good" in my opinion. Sadly i sometimes have a golden card i must use cuz i don't have 2 non golden versions, so only thing i would like to see is the option to just remove the gold for a smaller amount of dust.
I think having options is nice, Additionally, I wish there where actually settings to freeze the animations on cards. Because I know this will sound odd, but I saw someone else also had this problem. Sometimes the animated card do mess with my vision, And occcasionally it nauseates me.
I'm fine with golden cards existing. But I do feel the OP, the animations are often really cool, and it's just kind of a shame that we see them so rarely. Especially the really gorgeously animated legendary cards are hardly ever seen in play :(
That would great take away from the wow factor of golden cards. Golden cards are like foil cards, they gotta have something a little extra when on the board. a little extra umph
The animations on golden cards are actually pretty hacky most of the time - basically lighting effects and copy/paste animations put together by (I'm guessing) a 3D model guy or programmer using the artist's flat image as a start point.
Yes, the end effect often looks pretty cool superficially, but it's really just a bit of glitz put on a hand drawn image, which is where real work and talent went. It's not worth getting excited about missing out on. If the original artist had been required to hand draw an animation rather than a static frame, then I'd feel unhappy exactly as the OP that the basic product was being deliberately hamstrung to promote the premium version.
I absolutely disagree with the OP. I don't like the animations. The only exception is Savannah Highmane , but mostly they get on my nerves. I also disable them in arena runs. And if all cards would be animated, I'd need to open a thread asking for a button to switch the animations off. And we all know how much Blizzard likes to change the GUI (see autosquelch, deckslots, etc.)
I disagree. I think it's a decent way for Blizzard to make a few extra bucks. It's a bit of extra dust for the F2P players. And it's exciting to once on a blue moon open that pack with a golden legendary.
I couldn't agree more with you Sherminator. I'm a F2P player, and every time I have a duplicate that is golden (I mean, if I have three copies of a card and one of them happens to be golden) i dust as fast as a cheetah.
I would love to have a complete animated game, it would look way better. Yes, it gives you extra dust, but c'mon, improving the chances of epics and legs would make up for it. Maybe even keep the golden aspect but animating both golden and normal cards
Many people don't care if their cards are animated. Opening golden cards gives us a ton of extra dust.
I was expecting a comment like that. :P Just improving the chances of getting epics, legendaries and extra rares in packs would make up for it.
Increasing the chance of legendaries and epics means people buy less packs, so I doubt Blizzard will ever do that. I mean why make players happy, right?
June 10, 2015: Giving players a free pack each week with a new game mode called Tavern Brawl will make people buy less packs, so I doubt Blizzard will ever do that. I mean why make players happy, right?
December 15, 2015: Giving players a golden cards each month with a new game Ranked Chest Reward at the end of each month will make people buy less packs, so I doubt Blizzard will ever do that. I mean why make players happy, right?
December 15. 2015: Giving players more gold and free packs each month with two new quests called ‘Watch a Friend’ and ‘Play a Friend’ will make people buy less packs, so I doubt Blizzard will ever do that. I mean why make players happy, right?
October 26, 2017: Giving players more frequent legendaries each expansion with a new ‘No duplicate legendaries’ rule will make people buy less packs, so I doubt Blizzard will ever do that. I mean why make players happy, right?
No, it's not my first card game, but considering this is a digital card game, things should be different.
Why? Yes, something like that does call for changes in the way you approach the game (which Hearthstone has in spades in other areas), but it doesn't mean every single thing should change. Why, specifically, should all cards be animated in a digital game? "Because they can" is not a reason.
@Sherman1986 From our perspective, sure. But from Blizzard's standpoint, having the gold cards only have animations makes them more money. So it's gonna stay this way.
Yeah, sadly, that is true.
Making money is not sad. It is, incidentally, the only reason Hearthstone exists in the first place. o_0
I keep my golden cards. I think Blizz would even make more money if golden cards would not be THAT expensive. If it would cost 50 Etxra Dust to craft a golden version instead of a normal one, i would generally craft everything in golden. But 3200 dust for a Legendary is a prize i will not pay too often...

Eh I'm not sure they would. If it was easy to craft a deck full of golds then the exclusivity would fade and people would simply care less. They should be a rarity that collectors have to pay for.

Mmm, how about no? They just shine, they don't impact the game, so it's fine.
No. Your idea sucks.

Actually... I agree. Maybe make the golden border exclusive, but the animation should be the norm.
yes i love gold cards for dust basicly. I kept just three gold legends so far.
