Hearthstone is a great CCG that started a huge development trend of many other CCG, table top style digital games, and cards/card system in games making either a first time appearance or a resurgence. I like hearthstone. Right now Hearthstone is about to enter the magical state of change due to the release of their new set of cards where we can finally see new decks and experimental play but once the full set is out the meta only takes a week or two to settle with little change to it then we are stuck with 3-5 months of almost the same thing waiting till a card gets patched or a new set to come out before we see significant change in the meta then this cycle repeats. Heathstone is a computer game first card game second and they shouldnt be afraid to balance cards more often without the community making a fuss about the issue first.
With all that being said in an interview with IGN Ben brode said that Team 5 wanted to do Karazhan for a while, but it takes more then just having an idea you wanted to do to make a CCG great. It also requires you to actually pay attention to the meta of the game so that you can come out with the right cards at the right time. If you have a testing team and or play the game yourselves then you should know what is being played and what isnt to some degree. What does purity have to do with that party theme or the magic theme? Team 5 says they have passion and they care but the reality is they dont they do what they want to do despite any positive or negative effects on the games balance. Purity was the first time team 5 ever admitted they made a mistake and they are not even fixing the problem. All the other card updates they said "this just wasnt fun, it wasnt hearthstone" avoiding the fact that they made a mistake. I commend Ben Brode for admitting it this time but I would also like to see them care about the people playing the game rather then if it is the game they want it to be. Team 5 only cares about standard which is another mistake, they should care about the whole game. They can focus on standard but arena and wild should not be ignored if the arena community wasnt vocal I am sure purity would be in it still and the warrior wouldn't have gotten the arena support it needed but all this just goes to show how little they actual care. I like the support the game is getting overall (constant updates, bug fixes, UI updates, etc.) it keeps me playing and is a good game to study.
Purity rant: I think it is bad because self silence isnt that great to begin with. Its only practical uses are to undo a de-buff or freeze and to make a high stat trash ability card good by removing its ability. But then again people dont like silence so this is a way to keep it in the game I guess. This cards was talked and raged on to death but this is just my 2 cents.
I would like to see better new player support. I get that blizzard and team 5 want money but I still think the game is hard on new players not on the mechanics side but the progression side. Now with Tavern brawl, ranked rewards, recruiting, and standard added into the game it does a better job now more then ever but that doesnt stop the game from being hard to get into. With an average of 3 adventures in the standard meta new players need about 9800 gold just to keep up with the meta from a fresh start (the game is easy to maintain with regular play). On average if a new player does only the daily missions they should get about 700g every 2 weeks so to catch up on the adventures it takes around 28 weeks or 7 months. In the mean time they will only be getting 1-2 packs on average getting the free packs blizzard gives a week. C'thun is like a double edge sword everyone gets it and it helps new players by giving them a good card but because everyone has is is that really helping them? It is just raising the power average of new players. Arena isnt the answer to speed up progression because Arena is hard for new player, even with all the tier lists and data on it. Arena is better then buying packs straight up though seeing how it only takes 3 wins to make the run technically worth it (7 gets you your money back).
RNG feels like it is in there for the new players and doesnt seem to be healthy outside of that. You look at the past top decks and they try their best to eliminate RNG compared to now where more decks are embracing it "cough cough yogg cough cough" and now match dont seem to be as much fun. Just because hearthstone can do RNG line mo other CCG bfore doesnt mean they should abuse it to the point of making the game like poker. I get there there will always be luck involved but we dont need as much of it as they are putting in. This in the long run will teach new players about the skill of the game rather then relying on luck to win.
We need more game modes. The community goes through content too fast and if they dont care about other game modes outside of standard then what is the harm on adding 1 more mode. There are so many other CCGs out there that they should learn from their "peers" Verity is the spice of life. My idea is a mode where any class can use any card (either in a draft format or constructed format). I know it wont happen and the majority thinks its a bad idea but we need something new to do to keep content up and cards/classes still relevant. Also It would be nice to have some way, other then crafting, to get the old sets back for player who missed it caught up with the meta and its sets who want more content and cards. Removing them straight up was a missed opportunity and it is never too late for them to change it.
Again I like Hearthstone and play it on all 3 servers. I study the game and have fun with everything it has to offer. I have made friends in it and got some friends into it. I just want it to be better then what it already is. No game is perfect but that shouldnt stop it from improving and the thing Team 5 needs to be is more transparent and to communicate with the people who play it so that the community stays as happy with the game as it can be.
Voicing an opinion should come in hand with knowing how to express it, learn how to write and order your ideas otherwise you are just babbling and few will take the time to take it into account or even read it as they have expressed already in this topic.
I'm not going to ask if you've been to an English class, as I may incorrectly assume that you had the same teachings I did. But I will cover a basic fact about essay writing.
Intro Paragraph: Prepare the readers for what you're going to say. Specify three topics if possible. Try to spread the concept past one idea. Body Paragraph One:Say the first specified part in the Intro. Body Paragraph Two:Say the second specified part in the Intro. Body Paragraph Three:Say the third specified part in the Intro. Conclusion Paragraph:Recap what was said above. Make sure you have a single line that deliver the message coherently and simply.
Now, I'm not going to critique and educate you on the internet of all places, but you sound like someone who wants to be heard. The best way to do that is to plan out the essay. From what I'm reading, it sounds like this topic was something you've been wanting to say for a while, and then decided to press that "New Thread" button and just type away. I do understand you clearly had four (or five? The "Purity" rant seemed like half-a-point) but there was no introduction or conclusion, and you ended the whole thing with a bad political meme. That's where I'd have gone different. An intro and a conclusion that told me about the various points you were about to discuss would've been better than your very generalized intro of... Hearthstone. Of course we know it's a Digital Card Game and all that stuff. You don't need to introduce the game or the upcoming set - you need to introduce your essay.
Anyway! Sorry about that, if I stepped out of line or anything. I'm just kind of... yea know. I'm on board and all, with nearly everything you said, but it was very difficult to follow because I wasn't given a "map" of the essay. (Intro Paragraph)
Blah blah blah, didn't read you must be a priest, go play another ccg if you don't like this one..... why keep belly aching about it just leave already

Tl;dr: Purify is bad
Wall of text instantly stops me from reading, that and the fact you refered to Purify as "purity" for whatever reason

My opinion on Hearthstone: 4Mana7/7LUL
That is seven paragraphs of nothing.
I returned to this game much like how a recovering alcoholic can relapse.

The Roshambo to Hearthstone. Please be nice. Don't insult or be mad at someone for throwing Rock.
Holy wall of text.

The game cycles, it happens, I used to play as priest for control, now, I'm using paladin, we need to be flexible.
