As you can imagine, not everyone agreed with the card nerfs in preparation with standard. Besides the usual salt of "Omg i can't believe they killed decks X Y and Z." There is a larger problem among the free play community. Being free to play is a high percentage of the hearthstone community. Whether you are just starting out or dedicated to being FTP the deck choices you could competitively make were limited to Oil Rogue, Handlock, and Druid combo, which were the cheapest decks to invest in and needed often only Emperor to run. These are the most common starter decks. Now my friends with these decks have uninstalled due to their decks not being playable any more, and for new players it isn't an easy option to build another deck. Mostly this patch have just really hurt FTP and new players the worst.
I have all the expansions myself, but seeing 6+ people on my friends list no longer have decks and become uninterested just doesnt seem good for the game
Free to play decks, in my opinion, shouldn't beat decks that have actual good cards in them. It shouldn't be pay to win, of course, but there needs to be a balance. How do you think people who invest money into the game feel when they get stomped game after game by no-skill savage roar / FoN combo? Not too good.
Free to play requires effort to get the good cards and make good decks. If your friends uninstalled for that then they are either lazy or they dont like the game enough to try. The nerfs are great and the decks are not always goinf to remain the same after an expansion. Especially with formats. QQ
Free to play doesn't mean you don't have access to good cards though. If you play the game you can normally gain enough cards and dust to make a decent cheap deck in a month or two. If the game didn't put in a grind element there would be a reduced reason to play. I think with things like Tavern Brawl there is plenty for newer players to do while grinding out some good cards!
If they really like playing HS, tell them to stop whining just because their favorite all-time playing decks became unplayable and now they cannot beat other fun, creative, and not OP decks. Instead, they should spend time designing new decks with creativity. One of the fun parts about card games is the deck-building process, and what's the point of relying on the same decks over and over again?
Lets not kid ourselves, we all made the best decks we could when we first got the game to see if we wanted to further invest in the game. The best way to do that was to play Handlock, Druid, or Rogue for a while. This isn't about building a card pool, those were just the 3 decks that didnt require multiple expansions and heavy investment into the game. Thus the game is hardly FTP any more, its more Pay to Win. Which isn't good for people just starting.
Well, it's clearly very bad for the game, since nobody can play it.
As for competitive deck for free players, why are you talking about these expensive decks? Shouldn't it be stuff like zoo, face hunter, and the like? I am pretty sure zoo can be updated to work with standard.

People who refuses to play aggro out of principle are even worse than people who play exclusively aggro.
One should seek to become a complete player and play all archetypes, including ones that he despises for whatever irrational reasons.
What are you talking about? The adventures are now craftable so they can play any deck a non f2p player is playing. All they have to do is grind for packs and dust the stuff to craft adventure cards they may need. I've been grinding arena and I've got way more than enough dust to craft everything I need.

What is that crap? I have never played Handlock, combo druid, or oil rogue ONCE, and am F2P for 1 and 1/2 years.... you have no idea what the heck you're talking about.
I spent around $200 on classic card packs back in 2013. Except for Adventures, I've never bought a card pack since then except with gold I've earned from daily quests and winning. I've always had around 9-10k gold to spend on expansions.
Zoolock isn't a bad inexpensive deck, and didn't get hit with nerf. Only Ironbeak Owl. I ran only 2 legendaries early Dr. Boom and Loatheb. I now use Brann Bronzebeard and Gromok the Impaler, but I could run it without those.
My first semi-successful deck was Mid-Range Hunter, it did ok up until rank 15 or so. There are FTP decks that can do well.

Thats why they release the Standard format and the new expansion in favor for everyone to leave the old decks and begin with new decks. The nerfs don't just affect FTP/new players but also everyone else including legends, old players, etc. Starting today, everyone will start trying out new decks (unless you play Wild mode), and it will take a while until the meta settles, that's when competitive decks like the old Handlock, combo Druid, oil Rogue will be defined. The game has a cycle.

Handlock is an F2P deck? Ok, sorry but you and your friends need to L2P. Your friends should be playing aggro pally, face hunter/shaman or zoolock... way cheaper to craft/farm.
Also, you can't yet complain about the new patch hurting new players (aside from hurting their "perception of what could happen", as there is no telling what will be viable).
Plus plus, any true F2P player will be getting good dust from the nerfs and if wise, use that dust for a C'Thun deck (aka, the F2P handout legendary made to precisely benefit the F2P & new players the most).

All of the cards are dustable for 100% refund.
Tell your friends to stop whining and use the dust to craft more decks.

You clearly miss the point. There aren't other competitive decks you can make as a free player.

That's nonsense, I'm free to play and can craft almost anything I want. Practice arena.

I smell a salty zootard.
Combo druid and handlock are some of the more expansive decks to craft, what are you talking about? They have multiplt epic cards...
Mech/tempo mage, face hunter, zoo, aggro pally.... THOSE are the cheap starter decks bro
