Yeah, I can see how a game where you're free to play those 7+ attack minions will be fun.
That was sarcasm btw.
Nerfing a tech card, which many types of decks can't even afford to run, is just sad design. Stop parroting "limiting design" space like some mantra. It would also be limiting design space if 7+ attack minions couldn't be teched against neutrally.
But by all means, if you want a game of "first one to draw their big minion", then go ahead. I'm sure the skill level of the game will increase immensely.
So what's next? Remove shadow word death from the game?
Shadow word death doesn't give you a 2.5 mana body when you play it, so BGH is much better from a tempo standpoint which is the issue with BGH. If BGH gave you like a 2/1 or something so that the person lost more tempo from playing it then it would be much more balanced. I don't care if it kills a big minion since it is a tech card, but a strong tech card like that need to have a bigger tempo draw back to balance it out.

Taunts? Other hard removal? Your own big minion? Right now, if a control vs control match ends early it's because someone tempo'd out by playing BGH on a target and played something else. It's boring. It woudn't need to be there if you couldn't manipulate the mana cost of giants so easily, which are also boring cards. Lot's of handlocks and double BGH control decks after standard? no thanks.
What's wrong with BGH? BGH became popular because of Dr.Balance and he is out now.
I'm missing something?
The only reason it required Dr. Boom to make BGH so popular was because even the existance of BGH is enough to essentially remove almost every 7+ attack minion from the game. Therefor you don't need to bring BGH, cause very few plays what he can kill simply because he is so good.
Dr. Boom is ok even when opponent has BGH. That's why Boom is played. and that is why BGH is played.
If BGH was balanced in a more fair way, causing less swing; big minions might become more common seeing as they won't auto lose the game on the spot, and in turn BGH would also become more common, since more targets will present themselves.
I honestly wish that Blizzard would have kept balance changes to standard a surprise until the release. BGH does not need a nerf. I doubt that the devs have even considered a BGH nerf. Did somebody kill your lonely giant? I'm sorry. I guess that one Molten Giant was going to win you the game until mean old BGH spoiled everything. The worst part about these nerf threads is that it's just round one. Once the nerfs hit and people find new unbalanced plays, these same geniuses will be out in full force demanding additional nerfs to 'fix' everything with round 2 of the nerf threads.

Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
So explain me why every priest deck runs at least 1 sw:d and no one runs bgh.
There's actually several reasons for that. One of them is that not many decks run BGH as at all right now because there's not that many big minions to hit in the current meta (but that is not the way it always is). Another is that, unlike other classes, priests do not rely on tempo and instead rely on their strong mass removals to win games through attrition. BGH is better than sw:d in decks where tempo is important, which is an overwhelming majority of decks (this assumes that there are reliable targets for BGH to hit in the current meta, which there isn't right now outside of Boom).

Those saying "i've got the fun in my sights" doesn't need a nerf, care to counter this point?
I mean, right now, I don't beleive there is a card in the game that needs nerfing more than him. Not savage roar, not dr boom, not mad scientist...
I'm going to say this once and for all - you don't nerf BGH. It's a so called "tech" card , which means that you don't play it just because it's generally a good card, but rather against others considered such. In today's meta, BGH doesn't have a lot of targets outside Dr. Boom( Grommash?). Not even a lot of decks run it right now and after Standard mode comes to HS, it might completely disappear. So no, it's not a good nerf since the card doesn't need one.
Partly the reason it doesn't have that many targets is that this one card kicks out most big drops from the meta game. Poor rag, death wing, all those cool cards get the boot solely because of the existence of BGH. The main problem with it I think, is that it not only kills a big minion, it develops a decent 3 drop. Giving it weaker stats would actually help the problem a lot because it wouldn't generate that much of a tempo swing.
I think BGH could use a nerf, but I'd vote for a lesser one than outlined here.
Personally, I'd keep it the same, but make it kill any minion with 8 or more attack. Otherwise, Alextrasa, a buffed Grommash and all the giants would just be unstoppable. Handlock would just be extremely difficult for anything to counter.
This way, Velen, Rafaam, Varyan, etc.. could get more play, but the dragons and giants would stay in check.
I'm also cool if he doesn't get nerfed, but this is my proposal if he does.
BGH was the glue, that held the game together when Boom joined the party. BGH is completely fine. The only nerf I could see is making it a 3/2, but its stats already suck.
So explain me why every priest deck runs at least 1 sw:d and no one runs bgh.
Because there are no priests that play for tempo and they have a ton of board clearers. Shadow word death is more flexible because it also hits 5 and 6 attack minions. Priests play really slowly and have a defensive nature.
What? BGH needs to exist as a tech card to what? Counter big minions? What sense does that make. So should the game only have small minions then? And what about Fireball, Hex, Assassinate and other hard removal? Nerfing BGH won't make a problem arise where big minions have no counters. The problem with Big Game Hunter is that it's too powerful. Playing a big minion on turn 8 and being BGH'd next turn is too strong. It only really compares to Shadow Word: Death and that isn't even as powerful, although it can target 5+ attack.
The game isn't lost when someone plays a big minion. What kind of thought is that? Hearthstone core is (or at least was) making good trades and good use of your cards to gain control of the board, keep that control and then win. If an opponent plays a Boulderfist Ogre on turn 6, and you're going second, you play something on turn 6 that contests that board, or use your removal and then gain advantage on the board. It's simple. If he decides to go all out face, he's allowing you to make the good trades as you please and effectively gain control of the board and win the game (except for hunters). That's how the game works.
I always thought that bgh had weak stats. It would be more balanced if he was a 4/3 just so that he is not so easily removed after being played. But other than that in what way does he limit design space? Prophet Velen doesn't get played because it's just a bad card in general when comparing it to other legendaries that are available and can you people not think for yourselves without having to use quotes or ideas from twitch streamers to prove a point? Seriously to the dude that used Reynard as an example lol Reynard whines about every card that beats him

they should make it a 4/3
Everyone seems to not realize that the biggest Big Game Hunter counter, Nerub'ar Weblord will be leaving the game with Naxx and we'll be stuck with Mana Wraith.
At any rate, BGH is too powerful. Definitely needs nerf, or at the very least a counter card or to not be in the classic set.
BGH DOES NOT NEED NERF. Its a tech card that keeps people honest.
Love it when people want to nerf a card just so they are more free to play the style they want. Wow.
You shall cut down the largest tree in the forest with......... A HERRING!!
they should nerf it and make it a 7/2 so bgh is weak to bgh. problem solved

I liked the idea someone had about making it a Joust whether it kills a big minion or otherwise dealing a set amount of damage like 4 or 5.
When I looked up "Ninjas" in Thesaurus.com, it said "Ninja's can't be found" Well played Ninjas, well played.
Just got in 1 pack ragnaros, malrone, wisp, thermaplugg and deathwing.
Should I save the wisp?
