I was just reading a thread on here about the "ugliest" card back and that got me thinking. Who would be willing to pay gold or $$ to purchase the out of print card backs? And what I mean by that is just the card backs from the expired ranked seasons, not the Promotional or Collector Edition ones etc.
My guess would be $2.99 (considering that it cost $10 for a new hero skin and card back) or 500 gold each.
thats way to cheap everyone would get them all eventually, i think they should only make them craftable with dust and they should make them expensive so to motivate people to get them before they have to craft them and keep people playing the game. I think they should make any cardback craftable for 3200 dust (as much as a golden legendary). That will make it so anyone can get the back they want but they have to work for it(or pay money) to obtain.
But what about new players? This would give them a chance to enjoy them. They are already going to be behind the 8-ball going up against net decks with a bunch of basic cards. Why not throw them a bone?
~And before anyone gets salty: I know Trump climbed the ladder with a basic deck. But how long ago was that? How many Adventures and sets have come out since then?
I think it's a bad idea. They are seasonal card backs for a reason. Blizzard devs have mentioned that they might add an option to re-earn them in the future, but it's bad overall. If someone's been here since 2013 or 2014, let others acknowledge that. It doesn't have any game impact, so why bother?
I respectfully disagree that card-backs should be available for purchase.
Some card-backs are more valuable than others.
Ex1. If everyone could go buy the legend card-back, how would we know if someone made legend or purchased it? That devalues the card-back for those who earned it. How do you put a gold price on the commitment required to earn it?
Ex2. I had to earn the TeSPA card-back. I think it cheapens my experience as an advisor and the experiences of my students as players, if everyone could buy it for 3 bucks. To earn the Dalaran Flame card-back my guys had to be part a team. They had responsibilities to the club and to the school.
Ex3. I'm really proud to have the Pandaria card-back. I have been playing since open Beta. I've got some years of the game under my belt. For those that are just playing the game to have access to card-backs we have had to earn by commitment seems unfair.
TLDR: If card-backs are available for purchase, they cease to be valuable rewards.
As someone who has all the seasonable cardbacks so far, I see no harm in it.
To anyone that calls them 'valuable rewards'... all you have to do is hit rank 20 to earn it. Even a potted plant can do that. They're not 'valuable' in the slightest.

It's the duration of time that you have been invested in the game that makes it valuable, not how you had to earn it.

This point hits the nail on the head anyone with a pulse can hit rank 20 it's not a great achievement it just shows how long you have been playing. I have been playing since beta and have all the card backs but I never use the season 1 card back so nobody would know how long I have been playing. I could care less what card back my opponent is using. It would be a straight money grab for blizzard and they would have to do little work to make it so expect to see these for sale at some point.

I've honestly never had this kind of mentality, seems like a form of elitism to be honest, sorta like the "Did you EVEN PLAY VANILLA" kind of WoW players, but to each their own I guess.

I can see that. I can definitely understand how you'd see an elitism sort of mentality to go along with it. Since we don't communicate with the people we're playing against and the opponent can only see one card-back, I'm not sure it's relevant. I can see how you'd think that though.
I guess what I mean is, card-backs are unlocked as a result of an accomplishment. If we make them available for purchase then said accomplishment is moot. That's true regardless is the card-back is still available or not.
I know this is a slippery slope fallacy but should we also be able to purchase golden hero portraits? How about a 12-win arena key?

Difference is that 12 win arena keys and golden heroes are always available, card backs are not.
Honestly, I have every card in the game, and have nothing to spend my gold or dust on since I dislike Arena. While I have every seasonal cardback too, meaning this point is moot for me specifically, I don't see the harm in crafting cardbacks for huge amounts of dust/buying with large sums of gold. Until the next XPac, all I can do is save my dust and gold, and while I couldn't get any card backs anyway, say, 3 years down the line when the amount of cardbacks double, I think an option should be available to newer players, personally.
I think the special event cardbacks should be exclusive. As for the monthly cardbacks everyone can obtain; I think they should consider giving others an opportunity to purchase it through gold and not cash. Make it incredibly expensive rather than what feels fair and worthy.

All you have to do is not just hit rank 20. It's an indication that you were playing in (for example) the first month after release. A potted plant can't do that, if it was only planted this year.
A solution could be to put a "white border" ( for example) to new purchased cardbacks. like in mtg there was cards with black border and latter , the same card in white border. Elityist still will have theirs black border cardbacks and newies couldget the cardback if all that want was the picture.

I would second this idea. (and im the elitist that doesn't want people to have my card backs.)
It could be like monthly challenges: at the end of the month, if you achieved the challenge, you'll get the chance to pick one reward on a list (including seasonal missing card backs, for instance). I've been playing this game since 2014 and because i wasn't really interested in card backs and ranked games, I've the Black Temple (may 2014) card back but I'm missing card backs like Icecrown (august 2014)… I feel a little bit stupid now…

This would work; or something similar, i.e. black out a corner of the card, something to make sure they still look appealing, while preserving the value for those who obtained it originally.
Brode did say a month or two ago that they were looking into ways to allow players to obtain older card backs since it "feels bad" to not be able to earn them, and that something could be done to appease those who originally earned them so they wouldn't feel it was diminished.

Your thoughts?
that would probably aggravate the people who actually word to get them... so lets recap..
