Sorry for the ignorant question but is the egg token Al'ar leaves behind on death of the main card, a deathrattle effect or a special effect that just has to survive for one turn to resurrect Al'ar?
I drew Al'ar in a pack but haven't used it yet because if the egg isn't a deathrattle, it seems kinda bad. Bad in the same way that Nithhogg looks good on paper but the eggs aren't deathrattles and so easily killed for nothing but the opportunity cost of damage elsewhere that it isn't a good card outside of certain niches.
I MIGHT try Al'ar in some kind of clone deck but outside of that I would never throw it in a random deck and hope for good results.
The egg isn't a deathrattle. It's a start of your next turn effect, like Nithogg's eggs.
I've put Al'ar into my Deathrattle Hunter deck - merely to just try him out, because I got the card from a pack.
If you're able to trigger the deathrattle-effect in advance, you'll ensure some nice board-presence. And I actually found that many opponents are somewhat threatened by the card (despite the super aggressive ones - and I know we got a lot of those).
I wouldn't call it "super cool", but I'd at least say it's playable in such a deck.
I voted it Playable originally and if I had him I do have an aggro Elemental deck that he would fit well into.
The main problem I see, maybe someone can confirm from in game play, in ranked is that when revived he still can't attack until the following turn. If he was resurrected with Charge or at the end of your opponents turn I think he'd see a lot more play. I just envision him sitting there waiting a few rounds to be taken out fully without doing anything but draw means of dealing with him from your opponents playbook... which has some benefit.
He does have some single strike board wipe defense. Getting more than one into play would be fun. Elemental Evocation can help with the card cost and how early it hits the board.
With that said, to me it has the feel of a card that got nerfed just prior to release.

I'm guessing you mean elemental tempo mage. I love that deck as well and wish I had all the pieces needed for it, because I also think it's underrated.
Yes, you're right, it isn't resurrected with charge, and it can't attack the turn it revives.
Actually it's my own variation which I posted in the Decks forum thread 'Face Mage'. I am not sure what existing naming convention it fits into. You have to go to page 3 to see the current wild version since half the cards just rotated out. My first time playing wild.
I've had (2x) Animated Avalanche out on turn 3 that triggered Elemental Allies a few times :). It's possible to have (2x) Avalanche out on turn 2 but I haven't gotten there yet. I have had 2x Fire Hawk on turn 1 too... but lost that game to an Embiggen Druid.

Thanks for the reply, I ended up trying Al'ar in a wild control lock list with a lot of deathrattle synergies and it has performed surprisingly well.
It's been good both at forcing fast opponents to slow down and trade cards/waste turns dealing with it and in becoming a midgame beatdown threat outright winning a few games against slow decks when I'm able to copy or trigger the deathrattle with synergy plays. I suspect if I was higher rank it wouldn't have performed as well against skilled/experienced players but I was pleased with the results in gold/plat.
Next time I get around to playing elemental mage I'd definitely slot Al'ar into that deck as well but so far as I suspected it is a very niche card that doesn't really seem to have a place outside of elemental or deathrattle lists and I feel like it is possibly too slow for the standard format even in such decks.

It's not as bad as some thought, but it certainly isn't good either.

Well, Al'ar surely does have his moments...

And yes!!! Honestly every elemental is a serious threat with Elemental Evocation... I once got to curve a Fire Hawk on 3 into a coin + elemental evocation Animated Avalanche on 4.

That is some solid feedback, much appreciated.
