My friend thinks Zephrys is bad to keep in mulligan even tho the stats on hsreplay says its very good to keep and when i tell him this he says that his opinion is stronger than the facts. I decided to post here to question who is right
Your friend is an idiot if he thinks his opinion is better than real data. Also, the fact that he would rather take the risk of never even drawing it as opposed to having it as an immediate answer to any situation is laughably dumb.
I mean, if we're judging this based on card value and not statistical analysis...then no, I don't think it's "bad" per se to keep him in your opening hand. Above all else, he WILL always be a 2 mana 3/2. Tempo-wise speaking I can think of way worse plays to make on turn 2 than dropping a 3/2 body on board.
It's just not guaranteed you'll get that great of discovery choices from his wish cards if you drop him that early.
It's hard, cause he's a very situational card, sometimes you don't want to play it early and also you don't need to do so, so it's gonna be a dead card for a long time but some other times you just use him as early removal to not get dunked on. At the same time you know it can give you a lot of options and variety and he's obviously a 1-off in your deck. I wouldn't say he's a bad keep but I wouldn't hard mulligan for it or hope that he'll magically win me the game, there are other cards far more important on every match-up than Zephyr and you should always think about that, Zephyr is only a tool for your deck in most scenarios.
3/2 in turn 2 + ramp or companion in 3 is a strong start in any deck, the only exception is in the case you put him in a deck with duplicates and heavy draw hoping to use him in late game when the deck don't have any more duplicated cards.
I would especially if I know I have a tough matchup. BUT, I would 100% of the time hold onto it and never use it til I'm in deep trouble or with 10 mana.
If you are running 2 ofs with Zephrys (like the Myra’s Rogue or Maly Druid etc) you obviously don’t keep him. In a true Highlander deck he is 100% keep every time because he is super versatile in that you can use him to get an early advantage with a nice curve, answer a problematic minion or board etc. - he isn’t just there to fish for lethal.
I think it really depends on what deck you're playing. If you run only mostly highlander decks like me, you're better ditching him to draw later when your deck is actually singles. Most of the time though in an actual singleton deck I hold him in hand in case I need removal or a counter to something.
IMO it depend on the match up and your roll in the game if you are the aggressive then keep it in your opening, and if you are playing control Against Control dont keep it. its better to use him in late game.
I keep it vs big druid and use it to ramp up. I keep it vs face hunter to get an early board. Vs heavy value decks i dont keep it, i want to play it later to get a tyrion or some other value card or a board clear.

In my opinion it should be always kept at the hand and be used as a finisher or a solution to a tough board

The argument ended with that he would rather lose than to keep Zephrys in opening hand.

In my experience when you play him on 2 he always offers (assuming the opponents board is empty) 1.Wild Growth, 2.Brightwing, 3.I cant remember.
If I have Pocket Galaxy in hand I’m happy to turn 2 Zephrys into Wild Growth.
Animal Companion I think.

Zephrys is busssssssssssssssssssted. Keep it and don't look back, anyone who says otherwise needs to get on the bike.
If you thought you knew what you think I know, then you'd know I knew you knew I know.
Indeed, a guaranteed on-curve Wild Growth that you didn't have to include in your deck is like a dream come true for a lot of decks.

Another way of looking at it is, you actually build the deck around it, it better be keepable.
I would keep reno in my opening hand all the time

he is good, stats in hsreplay reflects nothing in legend ladder
Zephrys is such an insanely flexible card, one has to have a brain the size of a peanut to ditch him when he's offered in the mulligan.

Currently playing Dragon Galakrond Priest, Dragon Galakrond Warrior and Highlander Dragon Hunter.
It's the most flexible card in the game, and the reason you play highlander!
It's a no-brainer "always keep".
