I dont think his power will be much usefull in any version of hunter (fast aggro or midrange), at turn 8 (or 7 with coin) usually the oponent is so low that doesn't make difference if he will deal 6, 12 or 76654545. But 9 health IS a huge deal, forcing a 2x1 trade and making "removals cards" like Holy Fire and Gorehowl not enough. Maybe he will see some play.
Correct but it helps you stay alive long enough to seize board control. Hunter's hero power does not do this and fits into a more aggressive deck.
Yes but as said, it apllies a lot of pressure. Also, a class being able to go control/slow deck isn't determined only by their hero power but by their class cards too (obviously).
It's only 2 hp each time, and it doesn't affect the board state, which is the biggest factor in control matchups.
Warrior's hero power is only 2 hp too.
In the control matchups yes, it applies a bit of pressure against other control decks. However, as a Control Hunter what exactly will your hero power do against aggressive decks? Absolutely nothing. A control deck is looking to slow the game down not speed it up and the Hunter hero power does not do this.
This is one of the best legendary in the game...9 Health for 7 Mana? That's already super good. Double attack is just over the top.
By that logic, 5 health for 3 mana on King Mukla, must be insane. Kappa.
In constructed, this card is far from the best legendary, way too slow, doesn't do anything when it's played, and although it demands removal, what legendary at 7 mana+ doesn't demand removal. People need to stop overreacting to its effect, in most circumstances in constructed, cards like this are the targets of premium removal, and rarely will it survive til your next turn. In Arena, this card is a different story.

Shut up already. Learn more about this game before you call 2 damage and 2 armor the same thing.
Hero power is only one of the tools you can use to stabilize the board. Control hunter would use cards to stabilize and use the hero power after turn 8ish where at that point its basically an auto 2 damage to your opponent on every turn.
I don't think hunters need this card at all. It would be good (almost op) if it was a Warrior legendary. By turn 7, hunters have the capacity to do more damage (if you play a really aggro deck as you can see being played right now) than Gahz can do in 2 turns of set-up. It's a good card but for hunters? idk
btw I'm just waiting to get this thing with Recombobulator :DD
Also, Gahz is awesome in arena. Pay one more to get a Boulderfist on crack with 9 health + beast synergy. And since in arena one minion with a lot of health is more likely to survive more turns, this thing can get out of control pretty easily.
It's not a great as it sounds a lot of big cards like this never get to the attack because they are instantly removed. People will use their hex, polymorph ect to take it out.
If we're talking about hero powers, how about Warlock? You get a card, but lose 2 health in the process which sounds about opposite to "stabilizing". Handlock is, I understand, a control-ish deck, right?
I'm having hopes that GvG will offer more diversity in deck selections. I suppose even midrange Hunter could make use of this hydra here and it's not like they don't have so much removal already ^_^;
You're joking right? You play 4 Giants which want you to have a low health total and high card count. Handlock is different from other controlling decks in that it usually wins with huge swing turns very quickly. Also, control decks want to draw cards so I'm not even sure why you're using this deck as an example.
This might stop people from playing Rush Hunter. So I welcome it!
More like stop some people from playing HS...
Compare this to Velen or Antonidas (7m class leg). Dev team is sure to lose their sense of balance with time.
at least Velen and Antonidas have an immediate effect on the game, while this card is slow and most of the time it will get removed before it can atack

Antonidas and Velen both have their places in specific decks, like a lot of legendary minions. It's unfortunate that in the current meta these decks aren't viable, however I think this card doesn't fit into the current meta either. Perhaps judgement as harsh as this should be withheld until the meta has settled down after release..?

That's only relevant in control matchups. Against an aggressive deck a Control Hunter will have a dead hero power.
@Brior: Fair point. Why can't Hunter try something like this himself though? While the hero power doesn't synergize with "board control" or "stabilizing", they have plenty of ways to go about it. Highmane is basically another take on Cairne, isn't it? Why not adding in Giants, a bit of secrets, things like, say, Gladiator's Longbow?
We can't say either of us is mistaken in their claims until GvG hits the game and the meta will begin to shift. I'm just saying there's a possibility of a viable control-ish Hunter deck.
We shall see. I'm skeptical since a Control Hunter will have a dead hero power that does absolutely nothing against aggressive decks but I could be wrong. All just speculation at this point.
People, do yourselves a favor and call it Mid-range hunter instead of Control hunter. Control hunter is never gonna happen. Not all classes can afford to make a control-ish deck.
Edit: I remembered that is not worth it arguing against the stupid.

Might want to work on your grammar before calling other people stupid. The only thing you've done is call everyone who dislikes Hunter salty.

I still can't get around the fact that Gahz'rilla is a 6/9 for 7 mana. Boulderfist Ogre saids broken.

I refuse to come up with a creative signature.

Just run a hunter deck that has only spells (including call pet) and weapons, and this card with 2 tundra rhinos. Easy game every time. Like this:
I can see it right now, turn 2 call pet. draws Gahzrilla to be played turn 3 for a pretty much won game if there are no immediate answers.

Hey guys what's going on in her-
