Ogre Magi is a 4/4 that gives +1 Spell Damage for 4 mana
For just 1 more mana, Azure Drake draws a card and also carries a dragon tag.
Drawing cards usually cost 1 to 1.5 mana in HS, such as Arcane Intellect drawing 2 cards for 3 mana and Loot Hoarder drawing 1 card for 1 mana (it costs 2 but have stats of a 1-mana-cost card). So, 1 more mana to draw a card is just fine. As for the Ogre Magi comparison, basic cards have worse stats than other cards. It's like comparing Magma Rager to Ice Rager. If you think like that, it would be safe to say you actually pay about 1.5 mana when you draw a card with Azure Drake. Also, I don't think the fact that Drake is a dragon should increase its cost or something.
Does that make any sense?
"Battlecry: draw a card" is worth at least 1,5 mana! Especially lategame, having the card now rather than later, via deathrattle, is a very big deal, especially for tempo decks.
Novice Engineer was in a stupid amount of decks as a 1-2 and still sees play in constructed as a 1-1.
I think azure drake is a bit too strong but it's a very well designed card. I don't know if it would be played if it was changed at all.
I think you guys arguing about auto include is kinda silly. IT IS an auto include in any deck that could gain the big benefits from it. Look at how many decks run it and almost every deck CAN run it.

1) No, Novice engineer doesn't see play
2) Novice engineer costs 1, not 1.5. And it isn't considered strong.
So no, draw a card isn't worth 1.5, this isn't true.
Was a 1-2 for 2 in the past, but was nerfed as it was close to Piloted Shredder amount of play.
An 1-1 body is not worth the cost of a card (Wisp), so adding a 1,5 mana battlecry on top of it still is not enough to make it strong. As a 1-2, however, it was very good, and probably would still see play, trading 1-for-1 with Living Roots, not being pingable etc.
The more I think about it, the more I think this card is overpowered or just too good for its cost.
Not only that, but this card is an auto include in most decks in Hearthstone because of its utility.
Think about this for a second:
Ogre Magi is a 4/4 that gives +1 Spell Damage for 4 mana
For just 1 more mana, Azure Drake draws a card and also carries a dragon tag.
I know this card doesn't exactly destroy the game but when you think about it there are no other neutral cards that are basically auto-includes in nearly every deck.
What are your guys' opinion on the card?
THis card gives much for its costs yes. Spellpower, carddraw and Dragon is much on one card. Reason enough to include it in every dragon deck that will ever be made. Or any spellpower deck. OP maybe, but in this case not annoying especially when every class can mke use of it
Nah, it's one of the cards that I consider to be strong, but balanced. It's strong on turn 5 and often if you draw it on turn 10, but I wouldn't consider it broken. It's still a 5 mana 4/4 body that often gets answered almost immediately.
Ogre Magi is a 4/4 that gives +1 Spell Damage for 4 mana

If anyone would agree with that, than ice rager is op too.
nice argument..... ice rager never saw play when azure drake is a staple in way too many decks.....
azure drake is not OP but its too much of a staple to remain in standard forever. thats my opinion... him violet teacher argent squire and abusive sergeant need a change or leave standard entirely.
you could argue that none of these cards are OP but they never rotate out thats the problem......why would anyone play other 1 drops other than abusive-argent..... argent is a neutral minibot for the 1 mana slot.....while violet teacher has too much value for these stats and 4 drop so it creates token druid a deck that will never rotate out.....
as for azure drake its not OP but too good for its cost. dragon tribal spell damage you draw a card so it replaced itself even if it will die and it has good stats. i think it oppresses other 5 drops too much.....
also azure drake is a soft taunt because of the spell damage. i think at 6 mana it would be fair
i think most of you dont really understand what is above average strong and what not in this game. drawing a card or cards on a body is way too strong because it is always a 1 for 2. you many argue that azure drake dies immediately or whatever but it drew you a card so its a +1. azure drake has spell damage on top.... so its not a target your opponent can ignore (soft taunt). if you play azure drake on empty board it draws you a card so it replaced itself and pose a threat with the spell damage. i think the spell damage is ok the effect that draws a card is the problem especially for that mana cost. ancient of lore now is 7 mana draw a card 5/5 no spell power. just reminding that body + drawing is too good
Spell damage should be removed. Drawing a card while developing neutral 4/4 dragon all for 5 mana is really good, but with also spell damage it seems little too strong.
lol at those who are saying that no one whines about azure drake so it shouldnt get nerfed...... blizzard has nerfed cards like flare and hunters mark when no one was complaining about them. you think your whining is what determines the nerfs? lmao
I am a self-admitted whiner, but this takes the price. Azure Drake is a pure value card, it's not too strong. It gives many decks the card draw they need, without it so many decks would fall into despair.
Seriously if Azure Drake is broken to you - what do you even consider balanced?
Far and away its the best general purpose neutral card but it is typically the weakest card in the decks in which it is played due to class cards and the cumulative snowball effects of high-tempo neutral cards e.g. ardent squire or abusive sergeant.
Any neutral cards should not really be more powerful than this e.g. Piloted Shredder.
I see it as a well designed card and wouldn't consider any changes.
well, no. being that 1 card draw is actually worth about 1-1.25ish mana - just look at Ogre Magi and then you see it's pretty fair
although being a dragon gives a little bit more of an edge. so in conclusion it's probably 1/2 a mana too good. it's still pretty much in line with almost every other being played currently

lol just break down the card and see what it does want to see?
1) its neutral so every class can use it
2) its in classic set so it never rotates
3) dragon tribal synergy
4) a 4 mana body vanilla stats are 4/5 so for 1 mana and 1 health point you drew a card you have tribal synergy and you have also spell damage.
and my final question if there was a spell 1 mana you draw a card for this turn you have spell damage +1 and if you have dragon synergy in your hand it activates it. how does this sound? you like it?
how balanced azure drake seems to you now? and i already said i could argue its ok if it will rotate out but it never will.

Yes, in the PAST, it was played because it didn't die to a ping. Your false 88% WR deck from June 2 with 1 upvote doesn't matter, novice engineer isn't a meta card at all period, most deck that need a 2 mana draw play Loot hoarder, and freeze mage died when standard format came in. Drawing a card is worth exactly 1 mana, will always be worth 1 mana and that's it. It's why pw:shield is so good, because it's undercosted with its additional effect, and why novice engineer doesn't see play, because it's not undercosted. And it's why cards that do exactly draw 1 card for 1 mana like Kingsblood Toxin are balanced, never OP, never shit.
The deck I was looking for, it is pretty damn strong. And it is not very hard find others, by famous players from several classes, search yourself, you are wrong. If you want to cycle, Novice Engineer is a viable way to do so. Even Gnomish Inventor saw play in patron warrior for a while!
Kingsblood Toxin is token-card and can't be compared with anything. And you can't compare spells with minions either, because spells generally give you nothing on the board.
Arcane Intellect, Shield Block and Fan of Knives would be completely unplayable if what you say is true, that 1 mana=draw a card (right away). Yes, all of those cards have synergies and are situationally good, but the fast draw is simply worth more than 1 mana. Think old Ancient of Lore, understatted by at least 5 points, but was still a 2-of in EVERY druid, even with Dr. Boom himself around!
power word shield generally requires a friendly minion, so it is fine at 1 mana. Flare, however, was nerfed for a reason, but still sees play as tech is Wild.
the thing with azure drake is that it does what it does without pissing the other off cause his effect is not flashy or RNG but its way too powerful for the cost thats the truth..... azure drake should have been 6 mana at least to even consider it being part of a set that never rotates out of standard.
azure drake
violet teacher
ice block

are cards that either need to go to wild or change. and im talking at least there in my opinion the whole classic set is problematic and not suitable for a non rotating set
It's not op, it's just good. If it was op it had drawn 2 or been a 5/5
If you compare it with Bloodmage Thalnos, yes it's a good card, similar effects.

More often than not i find myself in the Position that i try to predict my opponents cards and be relieved when they just play an azure Drake
Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but words will send me spiralling into crippling depression.

yes. my friend and I are incredibly surprised that it hasn't seen a nerf yet, considering how many decks it goes into.
Say "Wow" for RNG!
