I learned how to play it properly in 1st game then i took my time each turn (positioning, thinking 1-2 turns ahead) in the second game and beaten the boss, it's not to hard once you figure out what to do ofc some RNG is involved like usual.
If you play for max tempo each turn without proper positiniong and hero power usage you gonna have a bad time.
1st attempt, took 0 dmg myself, trick is to make sure you have unequal amounts of cards so your autoattackers hit 2 minnions on his side, use the horses to weaken cards, play queens to the sides so they hit face.
This, Yes, there is some RNG... Like if you draw only pawns you are in trouble at the start... but there are even alternate ways to play there, like not playing your cards *gasp* This is a control matchup, and if you're not good at control you will most likely loose a lot. Either try hard until you get it, or try and actually understand the mechanics, maybe you will actually get better at control.
Just throwing this out there because I see a lot of people saying to pass on turn 1... I played a pawn turn 1, and two on turn 2, etc. so it's not like you HAVE to pass turn 1. It may increase your chances (not sure if that's true or not), but it's not the end all strategy. The main thing is, as other people have mentioned, it's a control game. You always have to have at least one more minion than the opponent, and you HAVE to get value trades with your Knight. The Knight honestly is more important than the Queen in this matchup. I beat him down with Pawns because I used my Rooks/Queen/Knight to control the board. If you lose the board, you lose the game. I don't think I hit face once (after the initial Pawn hit on turn 1) until after turn 8 or 9. Just made sure I had at least 1 more minion (after trades, and typically until the start of my turn) than my opponent until those outside Pawns smashed face for 2 per turn. Eventually when you're ready to close out, you can start smashing face with Rooks, Queen, more Pawns and such. Ofc that's not the only strategy, just wanted to point that out because it worked really well for me.

I found that waiting until turn 3 to play 3 Pawns at once against his 4 pawns seems to work well, then toss down a Bishop if possible. Use Knights only for clearing Bishops and Queens.
You really have to wait until the exact right turn to start SMOrcing, otherwise he starts cheating and you miss your chance.

Building Quirky Decks Every Week, Loving Life at Rank 15!
Such a terribly designed encounter. Did it quite quickly but christ I've never seen something so boring, RNG reliant and pointless before in Hearthstone.
From my experience since Naxxramas heroic mode in Hearthstone, RNG has played a big factor if you win a heroic encounter. However your skill can manage it somewhat.
Don't give up those who haven't passed it yet. I just did it after 10+ tries.
Followed many guidelines before and it didn't work. Frustrating. Decided to focus on what should be the mechanic to beat it.
The key is how you position your chess. Always put White Pawn on the left. White Rook somewhere in the middle. White Bishop in between your valuable piece like the Queen or Rook. Queen at the rightest to face enemy hero. For the horse i always attack enemy's Bishop to make sure they don't have the board control by healing. Your hero power is also important as i always use it to move White pawn to the left. But every move you need to think carefully and i always make sure that my chess will damage two enemy at the same time. The key is to clear their board and gain control. Once they have a few cards left in their hands and only 2-3 chess it becomes easy.
The difficult part is you only have 15 cards, When i beat it i was out of my hands and started to get health deduction from short of cards but by then i had 10 health and the enemy only had 5. Last turn, my white pawn at the left put 1 damage on the enemy and the queen put 4 as they didn't have much chess left on board.
But i think for all heroic, luck plays a big role. I'm not sure if i can make it again. But glad i made it eventually.
Have to agree with you. Don't follow any guides. Every guide i looked, i didn't get the same perfect hand as it's supposed to be in the guide. I don't think this is the hardest boss. Others in this new adventure like Medivh or Magic Mirror are much more unfair to be honest.
This is not fun, not skill based, and not worth it. It's nothing like real chess, there's an aspect of draw involved, immediately adding a luck factor. On top of this, his hero power is insane, and yours is really only useful to undo mistakes until the endgame. Additionally, you get less cards, making the challenge that much harder. Both with 16 cards would've been a fair challenge, encouraging board control and minion placement. With him having 30, its reliant on drawing you're active minions, and not the pawns as they are mostly just fodder for his attacks and power. My advice is to keep your Knights next to your bishops so you can get repeated use. Also, have a Rook and your Queen ready to kill his RIGHT AWAY. If he plays his queen first, restart.

1st try my queen was my last card. Cost me the game (he was at one health when I lost).
2nd try easy win.
Should you craft/disenchant (Golden) Sylvanas or Ragnaros?

First try, easy game, and very fun one too.

My luck his him using his hero power on turn 3 and 4.
Finally got it easily +50 tries.
This is a real fun one, just pass your first turn, and probably restart if you don't have a Rook by turn 3. Took me two tries.
yeah, i got pawn , pawn pawn , into rook ,knight, knight pawn, bishop pawn, queen, turns out to be pretty easy with that draw.
i was sooooooooooo happy when i passed this one!!
What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. Except for zombie bites; one of those and you're toast.
200+ Tries, still have yet to beat it. Dunno what kinda crack ya'll smoked to do this, but I'd like to know where I can get it.

Yes I know it is too much RNG dependent but still I don't get it why many have serious problem to beat this boss.
Rules:
Skip the first turn (it plays two pawns in its first turn with coin, if not restart it)
Don't miss the double attacks (it means you should have one less minion on the board)
If you don't get your Rook by turn 3 restart it
You should use your knights wisely (each of them should kill two of its minions)
Dead but dreaming
If someone is bored on EU and can help me with the heroic chess boss then add me please.
