I do play some chess, but I'm not a wiz at it. I took really long turns to plan out each move carefully. I've never had to think it through so much to play any heroic challenge and I've completed them all. This one dragged on forever and I even ran into some fatigue damage, but still pulled off the win.
Hat's off to Blizzard for cooking up this challenge...it was a good one...one of the best imo.
This is not fun, not skill based, and not worth it. It's nothing like real chess, there's an aspect of draw involved, immediately adding a luck factor. On top of this, his hero power is insane, and yours is really only useful to undo mistakes until the endgame. Additionally, you get less cards, making the challenge that much harder. Both with 16 cards would've been a fair challenge, encouraging board control and minion placement. With him having 30, its reliant on drawing you're active minions, and not the pawns as they are mostly just fodder for his attacks and power. My advice is to keep your Knights next to your bishops so you can get repeated use. Also, have a Rook and your Queen ready to kill his RIGHT AWAY. If he plays his queen first, restart.
Actual raid version of this chess is much closer to actual thing than Hearthstone version that is based on it. It's almost completely different.
Chess Heroic - without using the queen
