Before I start I would like to mention that this is NOT A SALT THREAD. This is just me giving my honest opinion on the state that the game is currently in, and comparing the current state to previous ones.
Ever since I started playing HS (just before the release of GvG) I've been playing it on pretty much a daily basis. I remember how I used to love it (especially when I was still bad at it) and felt as if I would never get tired of it. And sure, the game has had some ups & downs for me. I didn't like GvG too much, liked BLM, loved LoE but I never stopped playing on that daily basis. I've never been too fond of aggro decks (from facehunter to aggro zoo to aggro shaman etc.) but I understand that they were a part of the game.
In the past couple of weeks I've noticed that this has been my HS activity: Log in every 3 days to quickly grind out my quests. I still got to 5 by doing so though. This is not just because I've been playing alot of OW since I've bought it, but just because I don't enjoy the game anymore. And the reason I don't enjoy the game anymore is not because I've played too much of it, but because of the following reason:
The skill cap is absurdly low right now. Anyone can get legend as long as they have the cards. I've gone from 10 to 5, primarily with C'Thun warrior and all the decks I met were no-brainers: Midrange hunter, face hunter, dragon warrior, zoolock, shaman etc. I'm done with saying: Oh but these tempo-driven, aggro and face decks also require decisions, just different ones. ANYONE can play them, I can get legend with them with my eyes closed and I'm not particularly smart (I'm not saying all decks that don't belong in these categories are hard). And sure, there are some legend-capable decks out there that are hard but the majority of the decks you meet are bound to be brainless. Honestly, as long as you grind enough and know the basics of trading you can get legend. The legend cardback doesn't say ANYTHING anymore. The next expansion/adventure might be the first one I don't spend any money on.
And this part is a bit salty I admit: I wonder what people like about these decks. I don't know if they feel like they achieved something by grinding to legend, or feel as if their deck is hard. And the following rule seems to apply: The easier deck the more emotes are spammed. Maybe it just shows that HS is a casual game though, and in the back of my mind I've always known it is a casual game. But atleast give me some tough decisions to make.
I know that HS has always been fairly casual, but personally the only meta I hated as much was the secret paladin one and we're lucky that is a chapter we can leave behind us.
I'm not a salty control-only player that is mad because he makes some greedy deck-choices and gets mad when they don't work out. I've played right about every deck: From yogg & load to (puke) aggro shaman. It just bothers me seeing how easy this game is. Maybe I've just played so much the game has become brainless for me because I make every decision automatically.
I would also like to mention that a bunch of former HS streamers don't play HS anymore, Two well-known examples are Reckful (who, by the way, got legend every time even though he went afk for a bunch of his games and didn't focus on the game at all) and Forsen. This could ofcourse just be because a lot of fun games have been released recently (Overwatch, Pokemon Go) but I'm not sure.
So, what do you think about the current state of HS? Do you aggree on my statement that it's pretty much a braindead game right now? Do you play any of these top tier decks I dislike and why?

You've gone from rank 10 to 5 playing C'Thun Warrior. Based on that you've concluded that anyone can get LEGEND? And that you can do it with your eyes closed?
"The skill cap is absurdly low right now. Anyone can get legend as long as they have the cards. " Well that is false..
I've been playing since Beta, and have a lot of cards. Even if I make the decks you mention, and start laddering I won't make it to legend. I've never been able to go past rank 9. I'm not the best HS player in the world, so even if I have all the cards or play with an 'Easy Legend'-deck, I'm not going to be legend.
There have always been decks that people use more often, that give easy wins. Just change your decks accordingly.
Me too I cannot get past rank 10 and I have been playing just after beta and I tried a lot of decks and I get stuck at rank 10. Yes that is false that ANYONE can get to legend.

I am not a Mage player, just thought my avatar would go with my name.
'How many Blizzard employees do you need to fix a lamp? It does not matter, because they cannot balance the ladder.'
Well then, if the game is so easy for you, why don't you reach top 100, win a tournament or something?
Also, of course the legend card back is meaningless.
Any logic behind creating a connection between achieving legend (getting the legend card back) and it being proof of skill is inherently flawed. Reaching legend is just a threshold. Given that, indeed, the skill cap for reaching legend might have deceased significantly, there are still several other thresholds to pass. Given, they are all arbitrary (like getting out of the dumpster, reaching top 100, reaching top 10), but so is reaching legend at all. The only difference is that Blizzard acknowledges it with a cardback. Because of that, people wrongly believe reaching legend is somehow the one and only thing to achieve in Hearthstone, because you get a prize for it...
Dude Rank 5 is nothing, Rank 5 to legend takes as long if not longer than Rank 20 to 5.
Well, at first I was ready to defend the OP and think he was a multi-time high legend player. The sig proves otherwise, I think, considering the brag with top 5.000 in wild legend.
Oh, and one more thing.
Why would the amount of low skill decks in ranked even remotely matter for you (OP) as a good player? Bad players piloting brainless decks should be no different to you than skilled players piloting hard to master decks. If you're winning it really doesn't matter for the player experience as long as you're not seeing the one and same deck 90% of the time, which, I admit had been a problem during the Secret Pala / Charge Patron Warrior times. If you're losing however... well then you're just being salty.
I am really fond of the current meta which is really diverse, albeit a bit too heavy Warrior-wise and devoid of priest. But otherwise, this year has been the most fun I've had in Hearthstone since I started playing competitively.
Yeah this sounds like salt thread. If you really can get legend blindfolded then do it and post it. Most people aren't used to playing tcg and majority of people who play them usually stop because the meta isn't to their liking or they feel everyone else plays the easy deck while they themselves are the only really testing their skill. C'thun warrior please one of the easiest control decks ever made.
Don't get me wrong I'm not boasting and I'm definitely not saying C'Thun warrior is a hard deck. And ofcourse I was exaggerating the ''blindfolded'' part but what I meant to say was very easily just by grinding.

Maybe you can by a lot of grinding or maybe HS isn't quite your cup of tea.

Dude Rank 5 is nothing, Rank 5 to legend takes as long if not longer than Rank 20 to 5. CThun Warrior is probably the one and only real Brainless Deck in Ranked at the moment. Against Aggro your so skillfull Deck requires Zero Decision Making. If you think the Game is to easy play Miracle Rogue, Freeze Mage and Control Priest. Get to Legend with only these Three Deck (not Dragon Priest i mean real control) and then you can say something again. If you dont like Hearthstone though, just stop playing.
I've gotten legend several times (not sure if I mentioned that) and played all decks you mentioned (miracle > freeze > control imo) the rank 5 side note wasn't meant to be some sort of achievement. I can get legend with C'Thun warrior sure, and I never said it's a hard deck because it's not.
yes, why not post a video/stream of you playing 5 --> legend (maybe even while blindfolded?). I would watch that.....
I know lots of (university educated) people who cannot get past rank 10 even with a complete collection.....
I thought about streaming but my laptop is too crappy and I'm not entertaining enough. Going from 5 to legend takes a lot of time as I said it just takes GRINDING. And this wasn't meant to be a boasting thread.
Well then, if the game is so easy for you, why don't you reach top 100, win a tournament or something?

I've gotten legend in non-wild before (with old patron, freeze mage, sort of a weird deck and miracle I believe, my wild legend was with another freeze mage but yeah that was easier ) I just didn't take screenshots back then and I wanted the wild legend sign because I only say non-wild legends.
The amount of brainless decks matter to me because it annoys me when I lose to another shaman who plays tunnel trogg into totem golem into coin tuskarr -> mana tide into flamewreathed and that sort of BS (and maybe even spam some emotes) who wins even though he practically didn't have to make a single decision. And that's not a rare case, on the contrary, I see them all the time.
When I lose against some high-skill player who legitimately outplays me in a good game with a lot of tough decision I'm happy, way happier than if I win vs a shaman.
''OP doesn't like how other people are playing the game.''
I don't like how other people play brainless, overpowered decks just to win. I've stopped believing these aggro shamans and zoos play their decks because they enjoy it. They probably enjoy winning though.
I just wanted to say I'm not a godlento Hearthstone player at all and boasting wasn't the purpose of this thread. I don't have some 60%+ legend winrate (above a certain percentage is impossible btw because some games are unwinnable)
The skill cap is absurdly low right now. Anyone can get legend as long as they have the cards. You've gone from rank 10 to rank 5. That says absolutely nothing about the achievement of reaching legend. Those 5 last ranks are a whole different league.

I know that I've gone to legend several times. I just said that I've only been doing my quests, which I've primarily been doing with C'Thun Warrior (deck is irrelevant).
I begin to question if op has ever been legend himself. Because from my experience the grind from rank 5 to legend is a hundred times harder and more time consuming than the grind from rank 20 to 5. Also once you reach legend you end up against some prety unique decks. I remember getting shat on when i played combo druid by some weird axeflinger deck which i had never ever seen someone played at rank 1. Sure, I get the frustration of playing against shamans and zoo every game but just counter the meta and get to the lower ranks and the game will be much more fun.
Where did I say that it isn't 100 times harder. Because it is way harder not only because you lose your winstreak. The only thing I have a proof of is my wild legend because I took a screenshot but I got it in pre-standard aswell. And I know there are some people playing weird decks in legend (because once they reach legend they don't give a f'k anymore) but most of them still play serious decks.
Also, me saying the game is easy isn't the same as me saying I easily sweep through rank 5-legend just that the decisions in those games are really easy.
Oh yeah, the game was soooo much less brainless when the ladder was full of Mech Mages, Aggro Paladins, Secret Paladins, Face Hunters, Zoo or Combo Druids. While Miracle for example was entirely dead the entire time from GvG to WoToG.
Your are totally not salty, but.. you are salty.
Except it was a lot better back then. The matchups were a lot more varied and you had a lot more options on how to counter them. Who even cares about miracle rogue?
