It's been 2 months and I still can't get over the fact that somebody in their right mind printed Galakrond the Unspeakable and said "Why yes, this is a presentable card ."
All the other Galakronds got their time in the spotlight, yet Galakrond Priest remains, far and away, the worst deck right now. While that battlecry could work in an environment that is not Hearthstone right now, that hero power is a bloody joke. And not even a good joke.
My question is: Do you fellow priest players think Blizzard will ever address this, or will they just leave Galakrond Priest to fade into the void and leave us all longing. What change would you propose ? Discover a priest minion, rather than randomly getting one ? Something different entirely ? Maybe it's no big deal at all, but yeah, I'm just curious what the rest of the priests here think. Cheers and good luck.
Galakrond Priest is far from unplayable. I'd say it's better than the Shaman one now thanks to the nerfs, if you know what you're doing. There's also more flexibility, you can insert the Galakrond package into just about any Priest archetype except Res Priests.
It's a badly designed card for its highrolls and lowrolls: drawing a Muerte off it is so different than drawing a Test Subject.
Don't panic yet. The rotation is around the corner and a lot of awful priest minions leave. If the new ones are good and if anti aggro tools appear your card might just become speakable.
The problem with the priest galakrond is it is the only one of the 5 that's power generates no tempo. Shaman and warlock put minions directly into play, warriors allows for great board clearing, and rogues generates lackeys which generally are still tempo with the low cost of them.
Most of the invoke cards are terrible standalone. 4 mana 2/2 rush is terrible. But 4 mana 2/2 rush summon two 1/1's, another 2/1 rush, give your hero +3 attack, and add a lackey all of a sudden make it amazing. With priest it is 4 mana 2/2 rush, likely do nothing more this turn. The tempo loss from generating value instead of presence is just too great.
The unique thing about the priest galakrond is it actually has the best hero power of the 5 in the really late game. But priest had a hard time keeping board playing under-statted minions for the early turns of the game. You sometimes get into these situations where you are just holding a handful of clunk that you never get to play.
Also the priest hero power incentivizes you to build a deck without card draw because the value comes second hand to the invoke, and you generally don't run out of cards. But then you run into this weird issue where you don't draw into your invokes, and sometimes don't get to the 4.
And finally, priests galakrond is the only one of the 5 who's battlecry is reactive. There are many situations where he will be fully invoked and it's wasteful to play him. And the battlecry is also bad against swarm. Every single other galakrond is a big, swingy tempo play. The priest one generates you 0 presence.
Ya it kinda sucks that Galy Priest is so bad. One problem is that every other Galy hero is not only a powerful card to play but also a tempo shifter. The priest version is just, at best, a board clear and value generator. The invoke needs more temp I think... so I would consider- Invoke: “Discover a priest minion not in your hand” I think this would be a balanced way to address the disparity while not buffing it to T1.
I think its pretty bad too right now. Ive tried a dragon package and even a lackey package for some better early game and the deck just cant win that often. Way too many horrible minions pulled from Galakrond that are totally useless. Its not just Test Subject either. There are lots of other really bad ones like Auchnai Soulpriest, Northshire Cleric, etc, etc. You know the drill. The Galakrond battlecry can be quite good but then you are done healing and start drawing crappy minions like 50% or more in my travels.
Now, in Wild Im having a little more luck since the dragon package there is WAY better with Duskbreaker, Drakonid(the 5/6 discover a card) dragon and many other cards that you dont get in Standard. And.... you pull from the wild minion pool which includes Obsidian Statues and other actually very good minions. Even so, its still the weakest Galakrond repeating effect due to priests bad minions. They should have made the power "Discover a minion" so you could at least try to select something situational. I hope they beef this up - I like the deck concept but its just bad right now.
If it were add a priest minion with +2 health it would be great. They went balls to the walls with the other 4 galakronds but then got cautious on the priest one oddly
cost reduction buffs on thursday should help it out. that 6-cost minion (+3 health) stands out to me as always being useless space in my hand that has been full since turn 5. I'm not sure it's leaving my hand at 5 either but it could.
I see it as a fun card, especially in wild. maybe one day it is powerful too. infinite value is what ppl complained about dr boom being so OP.

I agree. Other Galakronds are played as win conditions. Priest's Galakrond is played as a board clear.
Priest has some of the best Invoke cards in Disciple of Galakrond and Time Rip. Likewise, cards you typically wouldn't want from his Hero Power are going to be rotating out soon like Bwonsamdi, the Dead, Test Subject, Regenerate, Squashling, Sand Drudge, Surrender to Madness, and Lady in White.
What this deck needs is a second package to go with it alongside a better pool of cards to get from the Hero Power.

It might even get what it really needs in the form of support- like some kind of handbuffs or handsummons.
.... Has anyone ever tried Arena Fanatic in a Galakrond Priest? Theoretically that should be good if slow
Also Fate Weaver the Invoke Dragon will drop a lot more often. That will really boost the deck. No more Priestess tho : /
